So apparently we sold Cucho to free up squad places to homegrown players aka the rule of eleven… then immediately signing his replacement who is NOT homegrown…

This club despite being full of **** have managed to fill us with even more **** on ****. The club is a huge steaming pile that is growing by the second

The Athletic reporting the fee is about £12m. They'll probably get it up to 20 by the time the season starts

I initially looked the English version of wikipedia, but the statistics were incomplete so then I looked at the German wikipedia. I assumed that you would deduce that from my comment about the English wikipedia. Why are you so curious to know the reason that I looked at the German wikipedia? It is because I live in a German speaking country.

My point (that you thought that there was a possibility that Perica - as well as Luis Suárez - might be able to score 20 goals in the Championship) does not contradict your exact comment. You qualified your suggestion about the players who might score 20 goals by writing (except for maybe Perica, who is hard to judge without seeing him play yet this season), but you clearly did think that there was a possibility of Perica scoring 20 goals as well as Suárez or you would not have written that comment. You have already explained the reason why you believe Vakoun Bayo to be a better player because you have seen more clips of him playing and his statistics are also better. It still does not mean that he will necessarily be successful in the Championship when he signs for Watford. He struggled when he played for Celtic, although he was less experienced at that time and there were also other factors to consider. Let us hope that Bayo has greater success at Watford, but my personal preference would be that Watford keep Cucho.

£12m but nearer £20m if the actual ex rate of £2:$1 is used.

When we don't sell Sarr by the end of the window, they'll claim the Cucho fee is actually closer to £28m and it was always the plan of the club to cover our loss this way

Why would the German wikipedia be any more complete for a player from the Belgian league, and when the English wiki will be typically the most widely used and comprehensive anyway?

How would that be, when you only mentioned the German wiki to begin with?

Because I'm in Germany and am not keen on having yet another person follow me around.

Sure, but there's a big difference between thinking there's a decent chance something could happen, relative to it merely not being impossible.

It's like putting the odds of one thing at 5/1, vs another thing at 50/1, while there being other things (eg Deeney being prolific again) which are so improbable they don't even warrant a mention.

But the German Wikipedia did have more complete statistics. The English version stated that he scored 7 goals in 12 games for Sporting Charleroi and there was no mention of the play-offs. The German version mentioned 11 goals in 16 games. I do not know the reason why it had more complete statistics.

What is your point? Why should I mention that I initially looked at the English wikipedia before I looked at the German wikipedia in my original post? I also looked at other sources including Transfermarkt and the Sporting Charleroi website, but it was not relevant to mention all of them in my first comment. I mentioned that I had initially looked at the English version of wikipedia (which had incomplete statistics) in response to your question about why I had looked at the German version (which I found to have more complete statistics). Was that not obvious from what I wrote in my second post?

What an odd comment! Why should anyone want to follow you around? I wrote that I live in a German speaking country, but I do not live in Germany so you are making an incorrect assumption.

You are playing at semantics here. I did not claim that you thought that there was a decent chance that Perica would score 20 goals - just a possibility. You clearly thought (even though you did not know a great deal about him) that there was a greater chance that he might score 20 goals than any other member of the 2020-21 squad apart from Suárez.

    Sure, and so what?

My "point" was in rebutting your claim that "I assumed that you would deduce that from my comment about the English wikipedia." i.e. because you first only mentioned having looked at the German wikipedia, how the heck was I supposed to have "deduced" that you'd supposedly looked at the English wikipedia beforehand?

I have not assumed anything, hence why I actually asked why you were looking at the German wikipedia, as opposed to leaping to a definite conclusion as to what that meant.

Given that German is one of Belgium's official languages and English is not, I don't think it's all that hard to justify. :)

"On 1 January 2019 there were 77,527 people living in the German-speaking Community (2005: 72,512; 2010: 75,222). These inhabitants account for 0.7% of the total population of Belgium."

Charleroi is not in that region either.

Far more people would have a higher level of English than German.

I was making the point that you were also optimistic about Perica as well as Bayo. You have subsequently explained that you know more about Bayo and you think that he is better.

Because I wrote in my second post that I initially looked at the English version of Wikipedia. That is why then I wrote that "I assumed that you would deduce that from my comment about the English wikipedia."

You appeared to assume that I was living in Germany when I wrote that I was living in a German speaking country. You wrote "Because I'm in Germany and am not keen on having yet another person follow me around."

Please let us end the discussion here. I do not think that we have any real disagreement, although there have may have been some misunderstandings. Both of us are Watford supporters and let is hope for a much better season than the last one.

Leventhal claiming we got £12m for Cucho rather than the €10m quoted everywhere else.

    Also liked this bit:

'The club felt the 25-year-old striker may be more suitable to the physicality of Championship football than the departed Cucho Hernandez'

Can't wait until Bayo turns up and is continually blown over by a strong gust of wind...

Edit: missed that the £12m fee had already been mentioned as didn't see that post amongst all the arguing about the merits of German Wikipedia.

But we've established that I was only very slightly optimistic about Perica, and am much more optimistic about Bayo. Stop trying to falsely make out as if my prior opinion on Perica was as positive as it is now on Bayo, when it wasn't.

Are you just being obtuse now on purpose?

Exactly - in your second post. I asked you after your first post, hence I could not have possibly "deduced" anything from a post you had not yet made.

Nope, you're the one making an assumption here - my quoted statement there is explaining why I was asking the question, but it is not stating that I already know what the answer to the question is. If I already had assumed then I wouldn't have bothered asking the question to begin with.

Any misunderstandings have only been artificially created by you being either intentionally obtuse and obfuscating, or simply dim.

FFS, Cucho may be smallish, but he's no Nacho Pussetto!
Having said that, Flemish (or Dutch, or whatever you want to call it) is a lot closer to German than it is to English, so I bet there are lots of non-German natives who know the language well

Good point. Is Pussetto at pre season or are they no longer even bothering to pretend that they didn’t take £8m from us in a complete farce?

I think that you have either misinterpreted my comments or are suggesting something which I have not written. I have looked through all my comments and I have never stated that your prior opinion on Perica was as positive as it is now on Bayo.

I apologize that made an error and I should have written in my third post – not my second post (in response to your questions). I tried to correct my comment, but the time to edit had finished by the time I had rewritten the comment.

I wrote in my second post “Have you looked at the English version of Wikipedia? It shows only that Bayo scored 7 goals in 12 games.” I admit that I did not explain myself very clearly in my third post when I wrote that “I assumed that you would deduce that from my comment about the English wikipedia”, but it was not intended as a critical comment. My point was why would I bother to look at the English wikipedia after the German version if I had already found the complete statistics for Vakoun Bayo first on the German wikipedia?

How would anyone be able to follow you around if they were not in Germany? Your comment certainly gave the impression that you thought that I might be living in Germany.

I did not suggest or imply that anyone in particular was responsible for any possible misunderstanding. I have tried to remain civil and polite in our discussion. Your last comment says more about yourself as a person than anything else and suggests that your line of reasoning may be on weak ground if you feel the necessity to resort to making such kind of comments.

I wrote in my previous post “Please let us end the discussion here” before you answered, but I shall now temporarily put you on ignore because I do not wish to continue this rather pointless discussion (which has already taken up too much of my time). Some of your comments are interesting and insightful, but it does make me wonder whether you enjoy creating petty internet feuds after reading a number of the posts on the Benik Afobe thread. It will be without my participation if you decide to continue the discussion. I have followed Watford FC for many years, but I do not often post on this forum because I also enjoy a busy and active life outside the football forum.

Another player confirms what a mad house we have and how relieved he is to return to normality:

Probably didn’t help he had to move around being being allowed to play here .

Hardly a good settled environment for a young player .

    Where does he say that?

He says he wanted somewhere 'quiet", that's not the same thing as abnormality (or even necessarily a "mad house" either).

He also talks about it in comparison with his experience at 18, when he wasn't actually playing for Watford.

Location wise Columbus is also just a small city.

The whole thing could also be potentially read in to as him demonstrating a lack of ambition in trading the competitiveness of European football for an easy life in the MLS.

I expected better reading and evaluation skills from you UEA.
