I have read a number of articles in Spanish the last couple of days all saying he wanted out. He doesn't want to play for Watford. He had another offer on the table that was better for him financially and nearer home. I don't understand how anyone thinks it will be a good idea to force him to stay (as if we can do that anyway).

I can't wait for the season to start, hopefully lots of early wins, get some positivity back. at the moment many fans here and all over social media are are being unbelievably negative about anything the club do. The sooner we draw a line under last season the better, but that can only happen once next season starts I feel.

    Role on July 29th / 30th !

So because they are in Spanish, that means they are more true?

Again, football isn’t played with a squad of 11. If it was, you’d have everyone happy - but you need big squads and you will have players who are happy or unhappy at any one time. I doubt Mitrovic was bowled over at the idea of playing Championship football 12 months ago - but his club kept him, he scored goals and was happy.

Watford shouldn’t keep bending to the will of players because they are a bit unhappy that they got relegated. They have contracts. We are a soft touch in that regard.

I do hear snippets from the club now and then as people know - and not one person has told me he was unhappy when I’ve asked. All things being equal, with all options on the table then yes, he’d have gone. But that doesn’t mean he was demanding an exit or was even unhappy.

Unless we are in desperate straits financially, I don’t see anyway this can be twisted as a positive. It goes against quite a lot that has been said by the club in the past week or so.

"We had an offer that met our valuation" is all they needed to say.

To spin it out with this horse**** is just insulting our intelligence.

You know when someone is "typing..." on WhatsApp for 5 minutes that you are about to receive a work of fiction.

Looks a sensible deal to me as long as we pay down debt or invest sensibly. Not another Kalu and Kambaye.

He's muddled them up a bit there then and done him a disservice.

Those would be his stats if he included his 3 brief appearances at Gent (2 of which were as a sub) and left off his 4 games for Charleroi in the playoffs.

Why are you looking at the German version of Wikipedia?!

2 of those games were just cameos off the bench.

Because I've been looking through clips of him and it's just obvious. His stats are also better as well.

Half of it already gone on that Bayet brother double dip transfer according to the other thread. Add him to the pile. Hopefully this bloke will actually get to play unlike the other abysmal signings you mentioned.

I've actually been going through more detailed highlights of him on Wyscout - now seemed like a sensible time to make use of their free trial period offer.

Why are you using Whyscout when your occupation is “bloke on internet”, as opposed to scout or agent? :)

Because they have a free trial period and it's the summer transfer window - if I'm going to slag off our new signings on an internet message board I'd rather do so from at least being slightly informed, as opposed to completely ignorant and reactionary...

I think you are confusing reactionary with people merely observing this is a transfer deal involving both Bayat brothers. In case you didn’t notice, Bayat has been involved in a large number of our transactions including recent hits such as Kalu and Kayembe. I wouldn’t say many people are down on the player himself, at least until he has the chance to show himself to be another Kalu anyway.

Enjoy your football scout fantasy in your free trial period!

I get that he wasn't the answer to our prayers, but are we really writing Kalu off after the equivalent of 2 and a half games, in a crap side, managed by Roy Hodgson?

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how he does against Championship full backs, if he sticks around.

Maybe they will both contribute to a certain extent as squad players, but it’s fair to say paying £7m for the pair was a horrendous bit of business done to look after a favoured agent’s interests.

They weren’t able to contribute when needed last year. I don’t doubt they may have a part to play in a 46 game grind a league below.

Equally I would not be surprised to see them quietly loaned out so Twitter dolts can praise Pozzo for shrewd loan fees.

    Awful signings.

Putting aside that I'm not sure there's a place in the team for him, we shouldn't be measuring Prem signings based on potential impact in the division below...

I think if we'd never signed them last season and announced them tomorrow for a combined £7m I'd be fairly happy. Think both could be decent Championship players and play a part in a successful team. Could get our money back/profit back on both as long as Kalu doesn't retire next year.

Agree that they weren't what we needed last year though.

Also wouldn't surprise me if we sneak them off to Sofia on deadline day

Too late now, but can’t we, you know, spend £7m on non Mogi Bayat clients? Just to show we actually bother to assess the other 99% of the world’s players?

My distrust of Pozzo and this relationship will mean I will always expect a Bayat signing to be a waste of money not made with our best interests considered. Hopefully this new chap proves that approach wrong.

No way we are making money on Kayembe. As you lightly suggest, that guy has Sofia written all over him. Or flogged back to Belgium.

I suspect Kalu will be pushed in Udinese’s direction personally. I think Baah will be ahead of him under Edwards.

I dunno, I can picture a neat little axis of him and Louza doing a job against some cloggers this season (as the ball is played exclusively to Kayembe's left foot).

Could see that, yeah. Think his pace alone could cause some trouble to some of the dross in this league, but wouldn't mind Baah getting a chance.

Have you looked at the English version of Wikipedia? It shows only that Bayo scored 7 goals in 12 games. I assume that the four play-off games have not been included.

For which two games was Bayo on the bench? Why was he on the bench for those games if he is as good as you seem to think that he is? Not intended as a criticism - just a genuine question.

As I wrote: "He may be better than Perica, but does that mean that he will be a success at Watford?" I remember that you were optimistic about Perica when he first arrived and you thought that there was a possibility that he - as well as Luis Suárez - might be able to score 20 goals in the Championship. I hope that Bayo is a success, but I am not confident.

Kalu wasn't good enough to get into Nigeria's youth teams. Bayat had to forge documents relating to his youth appearances to get him a work permit.

Baah is a German youth international on merit.

Unless the injury had a serious impact on him, his development should absolutely be prioritised.

Yes the 4 playoff games wouldn't have been included there - he scored an additional 4 goals in those 4 games.

You didn't answer why you were initially looking at the German wikipedia?

He could have been coming back from an injury/slight knock? On the first of the two occasions he was subbed early in the prior match so could have picked up a knock in that one which made them cautious for the next. On the second occasion he was Man of the Match in the previous game so seems unlikely to have been dropped, so again could have had a knock in training or even been rested.

You're stretching my initial optimism at Perica out a bit there!

My exact comment which you seem to be referring to was:
"Suarez is the only one of our current strikers who I reckon could possibly get to 20 goals this season (except for maybe Perica, who is hard to judge without seeing him play yet this season). I don't see any of our other current strikers getting close to that figure."

I therefore made it clear that Perica was an unknown who I found hard to judge. Suarez would have done well had he stayed.

Regarding Bayo I've already seen a lot more clips of him than I was able to of Perica before he signed. Also, having now seen more of Perica I have a comparison point of his ability relative to Bayo's. Based on these things I'm more confident Bayo will do well than I was with Perica, and I'm confident he's a better player.

As an aside, Perica was hard done by and unlucky in his time here - he wasn't great, but had his likely winner against Brentford incorrectly disallowed, was given a ridiculously harsh red card vs Newport, and dislocated his shoulder. Were it not for those things he would have at least have established himself as our first choice CF that season (albeit there was scant competition).

Perica lacked too many of the core skills needed of a modern number 9.

His inability to hold the ball up was the reason he would never have been first choice, irrespective of the fact he was probably the best finisher at the club.

Given that nobody at the club other than Hughes, Joao and Zink could actually pass a ball, Perica was just not the right profile of player.

I still thought he was more worthy than that season's Deeney and Gray (again, low bar I know). But yeah he was clumsy.

We'd have needed to get more crosses from Sarr and Femenia in to him.

  32. barely1egal

Yeah agree with that. I just meant that I dont think he was massively harshly treated. He should probably have had more opportunities, but that was only due to the dire state of Deeney and Gray. Id still far rather have played JP as a lone striker, notwithstanding that it doesnt really suit him.

I get not hitting in crosses to be fair as we didnt really have anyone to get onto the end of them other than Perica. None of our midfielders offered any kind of threat in the air so it would have just been Perica / Joao up against 2-3 massive championship centre backs. Probably not the best use of possession.
