Heavily implied to me from the quoted section. Cucho turns up at 18, shuffled from club to club and eventually leaves at the first opportunity after his breakthrough but sure, it's the traffic on the Watford ring road or the English weather that was 'a little complicated' and he had to 'get used to quickly'. No drama to me though if others want to interpret it differently and carry on assuming good players leave our club because of abstract reasons rather than the obvious ones.

Cucho didn't turn up at Watford at 18 - he was shuffled between other clubs in Spain while he was in the process of getting a work permit; how does that mean we were a "mad house" when he was actually rather playing for different clubs in another country?

Also, now that he'd finally moved to Watford he could have potentially stayed put rather than jumping ship as soon as we were relegated (though I guess we needed the funds).

Him wishing to settle somewhere sounds like a response to being shuffled around - again, being shuffled around is not the same thing as somewhere being a mad house.

As per my previous post, I expected better from you UEA.

Being shuffled around from club to club is a bit of a mad house isn't it?

Why was he shuffled around from club to club?

You studied law f'rchrissakes - I'd have thought analysis of text should be something you were decent at.

Instead it appears you've been infected with the mind virus which seeks to find any excuse to bash the club even when it's not there in the manner in which you claim.

He was on loan in Spain to get an EU work permit - it was logical and necessary.

Mid year. You have chance to make amends in the second half of the year. Time for some serious self reflection.

As per my post above he needed to be in Spain for a few years to get an EU work permit - him not staying at one particular Spanish club while he was there will be partly due to Huesca getting relegated from La Liga in his second season there. He then moved to Mallorca who were also then relegated, meaning he again had to move to stay in La Liga, the final time to Getafe.

Going through that, maybe Cucho was also just tired of repeatedly getting relegated? In which case a move to the MLS seems logical as they don't even have relegation.

For him to play for Watford yes, but not logical or necessary if he’d just been signed by a club who directly wanted him, and who he could play for immediately instead, which is the point that seems to be sailing about 8 miles above your head. We also presumably chose each Spanish club he went to, so that was poor decision making on our part that so many of them got relegated, which is all part of his negative experience.

He would have known what the deal was when signing, and also again when he even agreed to sign a contract extension with us in 2019!! He clearly couldn't have been that disillusioned with us when he agreed to do that lol.

We would have sent him to the best Spanish club that wanted to play him - if he repeatedly ended up at ones that got relegated it would have been because none of the more established clubs wanted him. The fact that he then also got relegated from the PL while being a bit-part player with us (and then got bought by an MLS club) just serves to underline that he's unlikely to be of the standard required to be a regular at a club established in La Liga or the PL.

    That is an excellent point!

(though also why I only said it was something he should be "decent" at, as opposed to, say, very good)

Surely the madhouse bit would be before he arrived? And if it was such hell, why didn't he kick up a fuss about leaving before his season actually playing for us.

Do you think him leaving at the first opportunity could be anything to do with our relegation?

I think there's plenty of actual things to critique about the club before overanalysing every (translated) exit interview.

Equally, we could look at Sissoko's quote from his farewell: 'the club's project is solid, the supporters are fantastic, the employees are motivated and confident, and I have no doubt that the club will return to the elite soon'. We could make a similar sized leap and assume that everything within the club is run brilliantly.

Cucho with the winner tonight for Columbus Crew who came from behind to win 3-2. Came on in the 60th minute, when Columbus were losing 2-0. His movement upfront changed the game along with one of the other subs for Columbus.

Of course he did. He’s going to be a sensation for them and will go on to prove what a pittance we sold him for.

How much would you have hoped for?

Was a shame to lose him and don't believe Edwards didn't want him but 10 million wasn't too bad.

It was $10m not pounds. It came to around £8.6m which was a pittance for a player of his ability and age. Easily should have been double that.

Add to the fact we also sold Zinc for just £1.6m, paid Spurs £3m for Sissoko only to sell him for £1m 12 months later. Overspent on getting Bayo at £5m. These are all very poor deals made by the club. It’s no wonder we have so much debt with this crazy trading scheme.

There is only one chance we have of clawing some of that back is through a Dennis sale. One good financial signing the club made against a lot of poor ones.

As a general fair point - Zinckernagel deal particularly.

Wasn’t the deal Sissoko deals a bit closer than that but then probably depends which articles you read !

Not sure anyone was going to buy Cucho for 16 million though tbh.

At least £16m for Cucho!!! I could see loads of teams fighting for him for that price. What we got was about right imo.

You also have to allow for the fact that the club will take sales where they can because nothing is guaranteed in terms of who we can actually sell and for how much. It’s just the situation we’re in unfortunately.

At least £16m for an attacker who has never scored more than 5 goals in a season at a decent level? I like him but the price was about right.

Plus 10 goals in the Netherlands. 3 years younger. Buying from a team who don't need to sell rather than a newly relegated team with debt. 4 years left on his deal rather than 2.

    Still mental, mind.

Yep. I don’t mind the Cucho fee but don’t think the £15m would be outlandish
