Or - more likely - a very good way to get an unwanted, on loan, player with a long expensive contract off his club's payroll?

Totally agree with OMR and Leighton above.

    This is all very Mutu-esque...

Whelan is a politician, nothing more.

    FIGHT THE POWER!

Sorry to be a pedant Robo but "nothing more"??

Whelan may be an arrogant self publicist who names a stadium after himself (like the Mad Cilla*ucker at Reading) but he is a lot more than being a "politician" shurely?

He's a successful businessman AND a successful football Chairman who got a very unfashionable side into the Premiership - it is quite refreshing when a businessman bankrolls their local side and they achieve success on an unprecedented scale.......just like the old days really!!

I think he deserves respect for that...... AND for sacking Marlon King too!

It doesnt mean Jack shyte if they sack him or not. Hes not going to be able to play for em anyhow. And hes playing shyte just lately anyhow. When he comes out he'l join someone else. Job done.

In terms of 'politician' I'm addressing the fact that Whelan simply plays to the popular opinion.

He may well have got a very unfashionable side into the Premier League, but....

...that's right... He sold it off rather than contuning to build, lost his manager as a result and now risks his club being derided 'by association' dur to signing Marlon King whilst knowing about his previous.

He's an arch nacissist. I dislike him.

One thing is for sure he will make pre-season for next year and I wouldn't be surpised if it was at Colchester.

Still a good if rather misguided footballer, must have one hell of a wife for standing by him (if she does) or maybe she is so accustomed to the lifestyle ...

Marlon King's criminal career off the pitch

    • King charged with 13 offences prior to most recent conviction
    • Striker has previously been guilty of violence against women

Marlon King's convictions today for sexual assault and actual bodily harm are the latest in a long list of court appearances stretching back 12 years.

London's Southwark Crown Court heard that since the age of 17 the Jamaica international has found himself in the dock on no less than seven previous occasions involving 13 offences. They feature dishonesty, drink driving and other motoring offences, and violence against women.

Only one, receiving a stolen £30,000 BMW, resulted in a prison sentence – 18 months reduced to nine on appeal. Apart from some community penalties, the other punishments were fines.

King's first brush with the law was in December 1997 at Camberwell Youth Court when he was convicted of wounding another footballer. At the time he was playing for a local Dulwich side. His victim was part of a St Thomas's Hospital team.

Magistrates heard how he grabbed his opponent round the neck and, as the referee booked him, returned to the attack with a head-butt and a punch in the face, fracturing his cheekbone. He was given an 80-hour community order and ordered to pay £250 compensation.

Two years later, at Tower Bridge Magistrates' Court, he was fined a total of £240 for two counts of theft and two of fraudulently using a tax disc.

In 2002 he was brought before Camberwell Green Magistrates for driving with excess alcohol and while uninsured. He was fined £650, ordered to pay £40 costs and disqualified from driving for nine months.

A week later at Greenwich Magistrates' Court he received a six-month community rehabilitation order and was ordered to pay £100 compensation for criminal damage and attempting to obtain property by deception. Later that year, at Inner London Crown Court, he was jailed for receiving the BMW Cabriolet.

A year after that he was at Bow Street Magistrates' Court for two counts of common assault. The court heard how a cab driver had called police about a "disturbance" in Berwick Street, Soho. When officers arrived they saw King chasing two women along the road with a belt and buckle wrapped round his right fist.

One of them explained he had attacked them for "no apparent reason", punching her in the face and causing cuts and swelling. He was fined £1,000, and ordered to pay £500 compensation as well as £100 costs.

His last court appearance was in 2005, again at Bow Street, when he was convicted of threatening behaviour. This involved him approaching a woman near Leicester Square, and again for "no apparent reason" spat at her. He was fined £300, and ordered to pay £500 compensation and £55 costs.

King deserves everything he gets and more.

13 odd offenses and a list as long as your arm of "alleged" incidents, a few during his time at Watford.

Apologies for anyone I may have offended with an earlier now removed post on this thread.

Was listening to Five Live last night and one of the pundits made an interesting point. He queried whether professional clubs would actually be able to employ him because he's now on the sex offenders' register.

Any pro club would have to take into account their junior scholars, female employees, female fans and any community appearances at schools or youth clubs, etc would be absolute no-no's.

Basically, he's a complete liability. I'd like to hear what his arrogant, t**t of an agent has to say about that. If I see him one more time on tv spouting about how his client will "110% get another club as soon as he comes out", I think I'll have to put my foot through the screen.

Now there IS someone who deserves a punch in the face!

I would have him back here. If it means we have to bar women from the ground, so be it.

Careful, moog, they might not let you into the ground with that big Caveman's club in your hand.

I suppose you'd like Lee Hughes to play alongside him, with Joey Barton on the bench?

What a sc*mbag, a persistant offender who seems to have no repsect for others and thinks he can do what he wants cos he's a high profile multi-millionaire footballer.

Prison is what he deserves, its only a shame that he could be out in 9 months and playing football again.

Even if he doesn't get signed by a team, he must have enough tucked away to have a very comfortable existence.

This won't be the last time he ends up inside as it obvious he simply can't help himself and is bound to reoffend again.

What a low life, arrogant, bully. Hopefully some big boy will take a fancy to him inside.
