Lee Hughes killed someone and is back and playing! People soon get bored baiting and fans are fickle.

They'd soon forget all about it if he started scoring goals. The only thing they don't forgive is bad-mouthing the club.

I have a feeling he'll see longer time than if it was his first time or if it was with lads at the pub. I suspect they'll try to make it stick longer...I admit I don't have much familiarity with British "Corrections".

    So right...

It would make an interesting poll to see how many people on here would have him back at WFC.

He'll serve half of his sentence in prison and half on licence in the community under the supervision of probation. That's the law of the land unfortunately. It's automatic and the circumstances of the offence are irrelevant.

It appears that Marlon's supporters in court abused the judge after the decision before storming out, then claiming it was a decision based on race. Seems his "friends" are of the same ilk.

I'd say he's finished in football myself. What self respecting woman would attend a game he played for for her club? Good riddance to bad blood.

    this is what we'll sing

    we've got marlon king

it's his own fault and it should ruin his career, but as said above he'll probably be let out early, then get another club no problem

What are you allowed to do whilst under supervision of probation? Can you work? Do you have to stay home? Wear an electronic braclet on your leg or somesuch?

Surely if the FA want to clean up the reputation of the game, they could ban a player for something like this. (or maybe impose a salary cap)

It may not have been an "at work" incident, but teaching and medical professions take a very dim view of employees who bring the trade into disrepute. For example the teacher sacked for doing modelling pics.

Sad but true. If this happened to anyone else they'd rightly lose their job and if they had previous would they really be given yet another chance (same job same nice lifestyle)?

Looks like Colchester could go up this a year, anyone think Aidy might try to help him get back into football? Wigan chairman has said signing King was one of his biggest mistakes as 'it was clear his heart was not in football'

A question for UEA as he knows his stuff. Does his plea have an effect on his sentence? As he plead not guilty and was found guilty does not mean he gets a longer sentence then if he pleaded guilty?

Yes. It's commonly a third off for a guilty plea and the earlier the better as far as the court are concerned.

I believe it was his agent on Sky Sports News that said he was considering an appeal.

PS it's a MAXIMUM of one-third, tapering down as the prosecution progresses.

If you admit the offence at the first chance, you'll normally get 1/3 off the sentence you would have received otherwise. So if the sentence you would have received for a particular crime is 3 years, you might get 2 instead.

The amount of reduction gets less as the case progresses so that you won't get as much as 1/3 off if you wait. I think you'd only get 1/10 off if you wait until just before the trial starts then but these are just guidelines and the court should still take all circumstances into account. Mind you, I've seen (many years ago) deals done between the CPS and defence brief where the prosecution will accept a guilty plea to a lesser offence rather than risk a trial on a more serious charge.

If you are caught "red-handed" and you really don't have any way of saying you didn't do it, you'd be less likely to get a full reduction.

The idea behind the guidelines is that it saves court time, money and also the stress and trauma of victims and witnesses having to give evidence, especially at trial.

Can you appeal a jury's finding of fact or only on a legal issue?

Only on a legal issue. If the jury were corrected directed by the judge and no substancial new evidence comes to light or wasn't considered then he hasn't got a leg to stand on. I imagine this talk of an appeal is initial bravado.

steveharrow is spot on. The added factor here is him apparently electing to go to Crown Court so sure was he he'd be found not guilty by jury. He could have gone to Mags with this months ago, pled guilty and probably done 6 weeks inside at the maximum.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2706121/I-regret-the-day-we-signed-King.html

DAVE WHELAN admitted last night: "I regret the day we ever signed Marlon King."

The Wigan owner sacked disgraced striker King after he was jailed for 18 months for sexual assault and ABH.

Whelan said: "The moment I heard he'd got 18 months, I said 'That's it, he's out. Sacked. Completely finished'. I always questioned whether he put his heart and soul into being a professional footballer. I regret the day we ever signed him.

"We sent him out on loan and tried to off-load him - which tells you what I thought of him.

"I sat him down before the start of this season and said 'Marlon, this is your last chance to make an impression at this club. I want you to stand up and show me you are a professional footballer'.

"But I'm very, very disappointed by this.

"It happened while he was on loan at Hull but I do not blame them.

"It is just unfortunate the name of our club has been dragged into this."

Disgusted Latics chairman Whelan added: "Some people might feel when he has served his sentence he might still have a future in football - but it won't be here."

Wigan signed Jamaican star King, 29, from Watford for £5million in January 2008.

    Dave Whelan is a c n u t.

He would have known full well about King's previous, but thought he could get him on board on the cheap and rinse some goals out of him.

He's part of football's problems... Building a nice little team with Buckle-Nose Brucie then flogs em all off....

    Ridic.

"Ooooh, he did it while out on loan at Hull..."
