More likely whoever leaked the recording / the bloke who kept recording while off air will get sacked.

The audio I heard sounded like it was made on a phone, it's definately not studio quality.

Absolute fools. I've nothing against female officials, to be honest I don't care who is in charge as long as they're competent. I can see heads rolling for this.

There's more to come out apparently. It went on for about two minutes.

Sky have a srong equal oppetunity policy and use it as a core business policiy. From a company point of view this is quite damaging. 18 clubs have either a female director or a female major shareholder, inc us now Simpson has split his shares ! That includes Arsenal, West Ham and Norwich.

It also won't go down at the FA who have just invested several million in developing the womens game.

On the other hand It's nothing thats not said down the pub every night, they were just silly but should know better

Just downloaded the new FIFA 11 commentary update. Not much different, although when my girlfriend went on it, Andy Gray shouted at her to 'put that ****ing controller down and get back to the kitchen.'

    :sign15::biggrin:

It's all well and good in jest saying that women don't understand the offside rule or that they are unable to park a car in the same way that it's common practice to accuse men of complaining about a cold being man flu, not being able to put the loo seat down or not being able to do two things at once.

When it is said the way it was in this recording in a critical, obviously non jokey way by people who are paid to give impartial analysis then yes it should be a career ender in my opinion.

The fact that I don't like Andy Gray for obvious reasons and Richard Keys has freakishly hairy arms does not come into it.

Am I right that it's a predominantly female sport in some parts of the world, particularly America?

Ok I might be setting myself up for a lot of stick here. Lets say Gray and Keys were being serious (for the record I don't like either and if they were being serious thats obviously an unfair judgement on the lines-woman), is there a good argument for woman not to be involved in mens football?

I can (just about!) handle the woman commentator, however wrong/cr@p it sounds, and a woman linesman isn't the end of the world, if she can do the job then I guess it's no big deal.

But say in 15-20 years time you're at Vicarage Road, Watford have just won and our female manager comes out to applaud the (female majority) crowd, shaking the female refs hand on the way. I'm not saying this will happen, but if Karen Brady was to have her way its exactly what would happen. Would you still enjoy football as much? I'd say probably not!

Its seems to be a part of this ultra-left wing ideal we now have in society where EVERYONE HAS to be involved in EVERYTHING. Why?

Maybe soon it'll be time for a new sport, boxing perhaps? But no doubt Brady will soon turn her attention to that in some last gasp hope to snuff out any male joy this world retains!

  13. hectic_freeze

    hectic_freeze Reservist

It's not about everyone HAVING to be involved in everything. But about giving people the freedom to do something if they so wish without the fear of persecution and discrimination.

We wouldn't think it would be acceptable for a commentator to say he didn't think the linesman could do their job because of the colour of their skin, in fact said commentator would be sacked straight away without question. So why does the same not apply to gender equality?

  14. orns4life

    orns4life Squad Player

Ok, well next time I go to the gym I might decide I want to use the female changing rooms as opposed to the male ones. I take it they'll have to let me do so, as otherwise thats not gender equality?

There is womans football, the clues in the name.

  15. hectic_freeze

    hectic_freeze Reservist

I'm sorry but there is a vast difference between separate changing rooms and job equality. For one thing when was the last time you saw a nude linesman?

Don't know how to tell you this, but that's the players, not the officials. There is absolutely no reason to restrict women from becoming officials at any level in the sport

  16. orns4life

    orns4life Squad Player

Well you'll probably find that up until very recently it was the officials as well as players. My argument is not regarding this one individual, or officials as a group, its that theres obviously going to be a continuous push now for female pundits (Gabby Logan, say no more), commentators (Jaqui Oatley, say no more), Spectators (no explanation needed), Coaches and Managers (it might sound wrong/sexist, but could a female manager demand the respect off footballers that men do? I can't imagine pro footballers are the easiest to keep in order) and so on...

"Football. Its a mans game." Not for long it isn't. My original post was pretty much asking people whether they thought (hypothetically at the moment) this would benefit the game, or whether its just another example of this boring ideal I was referring to where everyone has to be involved in everything. For me it would be the latter.

i agree. we need to set up some laws to stop women from enjoying/attending football matches or we'll end up marginalised. imagine how terrible that might feel!

Partly true. I can't speak for the rest of America, but the majority of youth teams over my way are for girls. Further to this, there are a number of co-ed tournaments taking place at this moment for over 30's. When it comes to playing football, over here it seems to be primarily for white girls, middle aged mums/dads and of course, Mexicans.

I'm having a real nightmare finding a team to play for since i moved over here. Though i did get offered a trial to play for a team run by a load of Kazakh oil researchers.

Personally i'm interested in getting involved with the lingerie football league. I think even Andy Gray would like that.

The bottom line fact is that they weren't down the pub or at a mates house, they were at work and making a comment about a female relating to their work.

If any of us were in our work place and made a sexist comment about someone in or around our work place the likely hood is that we would all be dealt with through a disciplinary procedure.

As much as it pains me, and she knows about as much about football as Ronnie Irani

Not the first time Keys has been caught out supposedly 'off air'.

I'm sure there's a clip on youtube of him slating International football 'off air' to Jamie Redknapp.

I know someone who works for Sky, and I was told years ago that Keys was an arrogant c**t.

You could say the same thing about engineering, or management, or bus driving or train driving, airline pilots, investment banking, fund managers, playing golf, ...........Isn't it just about people doing things they enjoy and are good at? I feel sorry for you, living in a world where aspirations are limited by skin colour, gender, sexuality, and who knows what else?

Seems kinda ironic that the one person in the whole of the ground at the Wolves v Liverpool match that didnt think the 2nd goal was offside was the subject of derision from Sky's so called 'experts' before the game had begun. Shows what a complete pair of arseholes they really are.

Bubble's right, along with Gary Lineker, Keys is known for being an arrogant ****.

I'm friends with a few females who regularly attend Watford games and I know for a fact that they know the offside rule inside out. The simple fact is, some blokes still live in the dark ages and believe sport is for men and the kitchen is for women.

I do love a good cup of tea, but i am capable of making it myself.

WAS has this down to a tee, it was not a joke and a laugh down the pub it was at work, where there would certainly be (and was) people offended by it. Those 2 are in with all the old boys clubs. Keys is well known to enjoy a game of golf with Dalgleish and I am sure him and the rest of the 'dinosaurs' in football regularly share those sort of views.

My other half knows the offside rule perfectly, I even remember asking her jokily during our first day what it was and remember her giving me a work perfect answer. I knew then, she was a keeper!

    Why not?

When you say 'i'm not saying it will happen', around me at home games it used to be myself, my brother, dad, grandad, MUM and TWO SISTERS. Three women, four men. What happens when a couple of extra women decide they want to come along too, does it all of a sudden become not as enjoyable because the females are in the majority? The group of people behind us are all women bar one, and my girlfriend's friend (also a girl) is a season ticket holder a few rows in front of me and goes to every game with her friend (yes, you guessed it, another girl). Is it something to do with when it becomes the majority when it gets not as fun?

Maybe women go to football games because they enjoy them... If you want a new sport at some point soon, because too many women enjoy football these days (whenever that line is crossed for you), that's sad, but go for it. Women go to watch boxing though, I'm afraid.

Sorry to bring back a comment made a while ago, but some of the things said need clarification. Where is the left wing conspiracy thing you mention coming from by the way? Who is the orchestrator of the absurd idea that anyone should be allowed to do what they want to do if it's not harming anyone else?

    Poor orns4life!

Sport is usually gender-segregated because physical differences make fair competition impossible. For reffing or lining - or horse-racing for that matter - where gender doesn't matter, lack of competence is the only thing that should restrict entry.

I happen to think that Gabby Logan and Allyson Rudd write and speak well on football; Jacqui Oatley's voice is too shrill to make listening to her commentaries a comfortable experience, but then I wouldn't have wanted to have heard Marlon Brando on 3CR. There's no reason why there shoudn't be a good female commentator.

But it isn't a white mans game... the world number one for many years was a black man.

I don't think football should be restricted by gender at all, but I still think what they said OFF air is nothing different to what i've heard in the pub before, doesn't make it right, but who cares.
