Feels like Sarr’s usefulness has become an annual debate. He wasn’t the difference between promotion and mid-table last year. Nor was he the difference between relegation and survival in the PL (either time). It’s definitely time to accept it didn’t work out, get what cash we can and move on.
I'm hedging all bets on a 2 year deal & move to Udinese with yet more wooden dollars heading our way to make us "debt Free by 2024"
I’ve always felt that’s an easy option for Watford to take, however, the player has to agree. I’m sure there will be offers towards the end of the window when clubs panic a bit.
I agree, it just has a bit of a Deulofeu and Pereyra feel around it. Biggest suprise is there hasn't been any widely distributed "rumours" around him . . Or perhaps there has but Elon is still restricting what I can see
I wonder what he is actually worth , don’t seem to have any firm bids on the table, is the reality that on current form he is only worth 5-10m tops , he probably costs us £3-£4m in wages a year. Can’t see many prem sides buying him for £10m and paying him the wages he wants. I think I remember him announcing he wouldn’t be at Watford next season , what happens if nobody wants him , I guess as above ship him to udineese on a 3 year deal (if he signs) , if we get promoted bring him back to Watford and hope his value increase back to £30m+ then sell
Surely there's some bonkers Saudi club with an open cheque book gagging to sign a Senegal international star?
When clubs are spending £25mil on Christian Pulisic, there has to be some club that realizes Sarr is a better player than him and is available for half the price.
Can't we just find a reason to pay him anyway ? "Translation services" "Consultancy fee" "Finders fee" ???
He almost single-handedly carried our attack the last time we were promoted. He also would have contributed a fair amount to us staying up in his first season had Deulofeu not got injured.
To regularly play in any Premier League side nowadays you have to work hard, regardless of your level of talent. No team can afford a passenger like Sarr.
I’m not saying he’s useless, but he’s not the cheat code that some people seem to think he is either.
I know he's not done enough, especially last season but he certainly had an impact in the Covid season. 60 goals/assists in 131 games in his time at Watford is not horrific by any means it's just that we overpaid for him and we've been a complete mess since his arrival. Neither of those two things are his fault. I hope he does go as he clearly has talent and needs a better environment to show it in
He certainly isn't when he plays like he doesn't give a crap like last season, but at times he did seem like that in the first Champ season.
I have always thought that he needs another player as fast as him in the center to pass to , he isn't amazing in front of goal but can get away from the opposition , if you could find a fast Ighalo / Deeney / Vydra for him to pass into we would be sorted. however over the last few years most of our strikers would have had to start 2 mins before Sarr to be in the box at the right time , plus obviously none of our actual strikers ever actually head for the box they are normally ******* around on the halfway line or out wide
13 goals + 4 assists in 39 games isn’t really that special. Important to us, but it wasn’t like he carried us to 2nd by any means.
His Transfer value is 20M. I cannot see any club in early July making a move. Best we can do is loan him out with some sort of deal for the parent club to pay 50% of his wages. Pretty sure we did that with Gray actually. He was also getting paid over what he was actually doing on the pitch.
Hoping for more but I wouldn't be surprised if it's around that amount. Anything is better than nothing I suppose.
It did, but not every team’s top scorer is a “cheat code”. He was one of the better players in a good Championship team but that’s all. He’s not good enough to transform our fortunes.
Best scenario for all involved really, we get rid and get some money, Sarr gets a chance to flourish in new surroundings and Udinese get a half decent player if he can be bothered. £7.5 million with a sell on clause would be about right but others have mentioned whether Gino is willing to take a huge loss and thats open for debate.
Baffling that anyone seriously believes Sarr would sigh a new deal with either us or Udinese. He’s just gone through the motions with us for a season, all he has to do is do that again and at the end he can pocket a life changing amount of money and sign for whoever he wants. We treat players like cattle and nobody in their right mind that isn’t an old clogger like Cleverley or Cathcart would wilfully tie themselves to this circus for any longer than they need to, unless they’re a bit simple or haven’t been paying attention for the past four years.
The list of potential suitors for Sarr has been shrinking every year. What kind of teams do you think we'll be climbing over each other to sign him after another season of him looking bang average against Championship full backs. It would have 4 years since the Liverpool game, and it's been downhill since then. Although a few years older, for comparison, Zaha has been excelling in the PL consistently for years, and his options seem to be Lazio, Fenerbache and Saudi Arabia. Are you saying JP and Louza are mentally deficient?
I agree it's time for him to be off, hopefully with a reasonable return. That said, I think that the head coach being fluent in French will enable him to get a very accurate assessment of whether Sarr (should he stay) is committed or not. It doesn't seem too many clubs are biting our hand off for him, so we have to see. Might be one of those where he needs to play like his house is on fire during the first few matches to gin up interest.
this is the key point Yes, if he sits around doing sweet FA he can leave as a free agent with a tidy signing on fee etc, but who will pay serious money for someone with his record... If he signs a two year deal at Udinese and actually puts a shift in for a season then options open up with potentially even more financial upside. He's got a choice, either back yourself to earn a decent move after a year in Serie A or sit and watch your career wither for a diminishing signing on fee. I don't think he has the proverbial cojones for the former
