I dont hate him like some. I also am not convinced he doesn't care. I think he's been low on confidence and maybe needs stability. I also am not convinced it was a totally bad signing. In a different multiverse Virgil Van **** wouldn't have appallingly injured Deloufeu and we would have stayed up and Sarr would have been full of confidence and sold for a profit. I think he needs to go cos he has 1 year left on his contract. I would find it amusing if he signed a contract extension though.
I might be inclined to agree with you but the regular very late returns from international duty, particularly in recent seasons, paint a picture of someone who thought they could take the piss and get away with it.
Decision made on Sarr soon .. To Udinese ? https://twitter.com/androofrench/status/1676273643771371533
Blimey, gosh, you mean soon they are going to decide what happens to Sarr ??? The big news is they obviously still don't know....!
We had this conversation earlier strangely enough, I think the chances of Sarr being offloaded to Udinese are quite high. I cant access the WO article so I dont know if it mentions any other interest in Sarr, but I can very much see Udinese being his most likely destination
Good. Would of been nice to get back some of that 35M we spent on him. No doubt it will be "undisclosed fee" so only theose ITK will, well know.
I don't like the sound of a 'decision' being made, we can 'decide' all we like, it means nothing if other clubs 'decide' they don't want him!
Sarr situation is simple, his agent wants him to run his contract down and Watford don’t want him to and are trying as hard as they can to place him somewhere acceptable to him whilst getting some sort of return on their initial investment. Udinese have no interest in him. Worse case scenario would be a seasons loan with a loan fee somewhere then he is free to do and negotiate whatever he wants at the end of the upcoming season. A very expensive mistake.
I very much doubt Udinese would ‘have no interest in him’. For one, the owner would protect the value of his asset somewhat. A good year or two in Italy and he may get back to near the value we paid for him with other teams interested again. And if Issac Success can trot out 20 times or so for Udinese, I’m sure even a half arsed Sarr would get in their team.
Cannot for one moment believe he wants to waste another season in the Championship or spend the whole season training on his own and not playing.
As long as he's getting paid, I'm sure he would be more than happy to just turn up at the training ground and be fresh for Senegals internationals.
That is all totally irrelevant to the player if he wants to run his contract down, and he only has a year left on it, so regardless of what we he may or may not do at Udinese (if he did go there) in one year he will be completely worthless to us, let alone 2 years! Anything he did at Udinese would just boost his signing on fee and weekly wage, it wouldn’t benefit Watford in any way shape or form. If he won’t sign a new deal (lol) or take a transfer elsewhere, it will just be about shifting his wages there for a year.
I'm assuming @WatfordÉire meant him signing for Udinese with a new contract, that has more than one year on it.
He’s done four years with us, what’s another year for him to be able to pocket a massive signing on fee and a huge weekly wage wherever he wants. Financially, holding out for another year will be massively more lucrative for him, and he’s shown week in week out he isn’t that bothered by the football side of things, so to me it makes perfect sense as far as the type of player and person he is. Whatever his true market value is, he’ll pocket most of that himself by just going through the motions with us for another year, and he’s never had an issue doing that before.
I can see him being dropped from the squad for the first 4 or 5 games and then coming back in once the club realise we're a bit shyte and sitting 16th with 7 points.
If it was purely about money, I'd be astonished if his agent couldn't get him a lucrative gig in Saudi with the market at the moment.
Looks like the club have backed themselves into a corner with Sarr. Contract running out, other clubs know it and are willing to wait a year and have probably told his agent too. Will be interesting to see what happens as we all saw how well Gino handled it when Will Hughes didnt want to sign a contact extension. Sarr isnt everyones cup of tea but he is a lot of player to not use even if he is running down his contract.
I’ve said this before, but a year is a long time to a young(ish) player to sit around not contributing to a team just to get a big signing on fee later. I would be surprised to see him do that. However, it’s a damning indictment on the way he’s been playing that no-one seems to be interested in signing him. I’ve long suspected he would end up at Udinese, if only to spread the cost of his wages for the last year of his contract. If that doesn’t happen and he stays and plays the worry is that we will see the same half-hearted contributions that will only be to the detriment of the team. It’s a very faint hope that Ismaël would be able to get the best out of him where so many other managers have failed.
Surely the club can tell his agent and other clubs that we will accept £5-10m. Any team genuinely interested in him would pay that rather than wait a year and potentially miss out? He's not been great, but with the right team and coach he'd still be an asset.
If he was that bothered about it he would’ve been playing for a move, from at the very least, last season. But he didn’t.
I think Valerian would be able to unlock more of Sarr's potential, because their first names are so similar.
Exactly, but we will see his performances dip again and Tom Ince's performances spike when Ince replaces Valerian.
Ah, but you mustn't forget - it is a matter of personal pride for Gino that we will make a profit on Sarr, so that is not an option
