If we were to look at reappointing one of our old managers I think we could do a lot worse than Ivic because as a lot of people are saying we need a firefighter and I think he could be that "Firefighter"

I actually thought we were wrong to let him go at the time as he had saw us through a very turbulent time for the club and when things were beginning to settle down he was given the tin-tack and replaced by "The Kid" who then reaped the harvest Ivic had planted.

Ivic actually managed to win 53% of the points available to us while he was here, and he was only in charge for 22 games of which he Won 9 - Drew 8 and only Lost 5, which considering the turmoil we were going through while he was in charge was an excellent return IMO, especially the fact he only lost FIVE of those 22 matches which was quite a feat. Therefore IMO that shows that he was a good defensive coach, and what do we need improving? Our Defence!!!

We have decent forwards now which Ivic did not have at the time our MF is OK and hopefully he could be the man to sort out our defence and in turn get us back to winning ways.

I know there are hundreds of coaches out there, but we know this man and his record with us was not actually bad IMO, so could he be the man to get us back on track, I think he could?

Oh but they did and many of them did play hard for him, it was the prima donners led by Deeney who did not like him because he made them work to hard and they were the ones who ended up getting him sacked

Do you remember just how bad we were under him? He was dull and extremely pragmatic. We won’t get anywhere by isolating our attack which is exactly what he did.

He kind of had the wrong tactics for the league which didn’t help either .

Too negative at times - particularly in away games.

Would the defenders this season look better under him than they have been though ?

In fairness, I don't think he wanted us to be dull, just was missing a left back and Will Hughes so was trying to keep us in the hunt until the transfer window. Was pretty obvious he was trying to get Quina to be the creative fulcrum but ultimately he was crap.

Having said that, agree that we'd play the same way with the current squad under him as yet again have a midfield devoid of any creativity. Might keep a clean sheet before the end of the season though.

Moot point anyway though, after the totally unprofessional way we binned him off and then briefed a load of ***** to the papers he is one of the few that wouldn't come back I'd say.

Oh yes.....forgot about that. The Pozzo's do know him, but a lifetime ago.

Only Watford could hire an even older coach than Ranieri.

Not heard anything about Hodgson. Suspect it’s just someone putting a bet or two on.

That said, he’s worked for Pozzo Snr before.

Would absolutely, categorically show though, that they have learnt nothing from hiring Ranieri and are not at all bothered about building anything beyond short-term.

Any new manager coming in will be short term “fix” then allowed to leave at the end of the season regardless of what happens .

I doubt it will be Hodgson. Didn’t leave Udinese in 2001 with a particularly good relationship with Papa Pozzo:
“Hodgson was fired in December 2001 after less than six months in charge after allegedly stating that he regretted taking up the post. Newspapers quoted him saying: "Obviously I'm very happy to be back at this level of football, but I could have chosen a better club to come back to. It's an extremely strange club." Hodgson denied making the comments but later claimed that he wanted to leave so was happy to be dismissed.” (From Wikipedia).

In all honesty, until we appoint someone and whoever that is radically changes my mind by doing something to improve our fortunes that I won't have thought about up until then, we're f*cked.

We haven't kept a league clean sheet all season so we'll either need a defensive disciplinarian or someone who places emphasis on a high-pressing game to compensate for our poor defenders, either of which as history seems to have proved will end up alienating our players who won't like the hefty workload while we still haven't got enough points on the board to survive. The alternative is someone easy-going to give the players a lift like Munoz and we know how that turned out at this level.

Someone in the mould of Gracia might be a happy medium, although I can't think of any managers similar to him tactics and personality-wise out of the top of my head (as he's currently employed), as we actually had a reasonable defensive record under him against non-top six teams, but would such a manager be equipped to get a team to battle for points? When Gracia himself came, we lost every away game under him apart from Stoke and failed to score in all of them, but it didn't matter so much as we weren't in such a dire situation points and worse, morale-wise.

You just know they’re sitting there scouring Wikipedia going, “right, who has kept a team in the PL from this position, but is a lot cheaper than BFS would be?”.

Nigel Pearson!…. oh right ok, erm..
    Roy Hodgson?

Why are people so opposed to Hodgson? He kept a very very poor palace squad in the PL for years, with no investment. Doesn't play the best football, but he'd do a job.

Didn't his time at Udinese end badly though? I thought his relationship with the Pozzo's was poor.
