I think we can all agree that a critical, absolutely CRITICAL factor for the next appointment is that the head coach's name has six syllables, so that we can easily adapt the QSF song.
Agreed the timing seems a bit odd. Maybe Gino wanted to to get the decision out the way so he can get on with finding & appointing a new guy, and figured it would probably leak out anyway so might as well announce it
I would like Mancini however there are others in Europe such as Hein Vanhaezebrouck (Gent) or Thomas Tuchel (Dortmund) that we could look at.
There's only one man with the proven track record we're looking for, who is familiar with the culture of Watford FC and has the integrity we demand.... Brendan Rogers
Hopefully West Ham get rid of Bilic and we grab him while we can See him and Troy getting along well, which is an apparently very powerful axis. Also his experience of playing in a number of leagues would help understand the mentality of a lot of our players. Would be concerned that Mazzarris departure may see the back of Pereyra though...
Silva has a break clause in his contract as soon as relegation was confirmed at the weekend, meaning that he can talk to other clubs and move without compensation #justsayin'
Maybe he wanted to get the Sit Vac out there before somebody he's got his eye on accepts another job. Or maybe he's worried that the club has lost the fans and wants to show that he's on the case before we all go off for the summer.
Probably to avoid a certain element of our fans hurling abuse at WM and the players during the post-match end of season parade. At least this way everyone can leave on a good note and the players can walk around with their kids without the risk of abuse.
Brenda will be looking at Real Madrid, Barca or Bayern as the only clubs that could match up to his standing in the game.
Mancini would be a great guy to bring to the club and would be a real step to taking the club forward given his experience of the Premiership and been there, seen it and done it as a player at the top level he should command the respect of the dressing room and fans alike.
It's a shame Kevin Affleck is no longer running WD Sport. By now he'd already have had an article on the website on the front runners for the vacancy
slightly playing devils advocate here but could he do it on a relatively shoe string budget? That is my genuine concern with some of the bigger names linked with us. I guess whoever we appoint there is a element of risk. If it doesn't work, have to trust Gino to sort it I guess
I see Ranieri is favourite, but I rarely look at odds at this stage. It's far too early. Probably the link was made because he was Gino's guest at a recent match. He wouldn't be my choice. I actually have a couple of friends who work at Leicester and know a few bits of what goes on there. The feeling was he was just a front man and the real work was done by Pearson and Shakespeare. The just carried this on last season, and we all know how that went. But Watford is a very different situation. Mazzarri has left a complete mess behind. We need a skilful coach to piece it all back together and create something from scratch. Ranieri inherited something good and kept it going. For whatever reason, he wanted to change it this year so the team would play more to his beliefs, and of course it was disastrous. He would have relegated Leicester this season, and they board had no option but to sack him. My choice would be Mancini, but I think it's unlikely he would come to Watford. Silva would be high on the list and would be a lot more likely to come. I see Joka and Dyche are being linked, but I think it's unlikely either would want to come back. To get a quality manager, not a journeyman, it's going to be quite a sell for Pozzo. A lot is made of the hiring and firing, and I think anyone coming in would be a bit concerned by this. Even Mazzarri needed to be assured before he came!. I don't know much about Slutski, but my gut feeling would be a little cautious about him. He doesn't sound like an obvious good fit to me.
Mancini won't come here...he turned down PSG. Also, just curious about Slutsky, you admit you don't know much about him, yet dismiss him easily. Compare Mancini and Slutsky, Slutsky has just as much pedigree.
Watford has 4 more letters, so might be a bit more appealing to him. My reservations at this stage over Slutski is because he's never coached outside of Russia, so could be a little problematic. It's just a gut feel right now.
I just don't get this Silva being a candidate. Even Walter did better than him in the end. Both had woeful away records and that's where a lot of our problems were.
This Russian guy didn't even beat England with his team. Could be good for getting Chelski loans though as he's mates with Abramovic apparently. It's probably going to be someone we've never really heard of before.
So has Dyche, but I think we'd be happy with him. Don't forget Silva had a vastly inferior squad to work with. He made a couple of astute signings and nearly produced a miracle. His record over the 18 games we was in charge, was actually better than Mazzarri's last 18 games.
2 things; Dyche - not for me, are we targeting a scrappy 17th as a successful season? Dyche - can't see how he would return. Silva also for me isnt the answer. I think we saw a honeymoon period at hull that returned to crapness by the end. Even we didnt go to palace and lose 4-0.
Zolacoaster? Lincolns manager? Feyenoord manager (with SB). In all seriousness, I can't get excited about some up and coming "unknown" fella whose had a good season or two in a substandard foreign league. The likes of ranieri and pardew reek of previous failure and there would be a media circus around ranieri. Mancini seems a good shout, but so does Conte and we wont get him either.
