Now hold on, some of the responses to Slutsky who's managed at international and Champions League level is undesirable, however someone who has won the Portuguese Cup and the Greek Superleague and couldn't save Hull...is the right man. Personally, I don't care who it is (as long as it's not Mazzarri), just highlighting the fickle nature of fans.
Watford fans logic: "Get someone in who has managed at the top level, can speak English, is likeable and has a plan!" Leonid Slutsky? "Who is this *beep*! No way! Stupid suggestion! The Russian Bob Bradley!" Despite managing at International level with admittedly mixed success, managing in the Champions League (beating teams like Man City, Inter Milan & Sevilla), getting to the last 16 of the Europa League, won league and cups. His English is outstanding for someone who has only been learning for 3 months (he takes 8 lessons a week). He averages 1.76 points per game and his teams are apparently incredibly well drilled. As already mentioned he has very close ties to Abramovich which could come in handy and he comes across like a very nice, approachable guy in his Sky Interview. I'm not saying he's the answer and I'd also prefer someone with experience in the league like Silva but some of these replies are just stupid.
Ah now I recall the interview on SSN! Yes he was very personable and came across very well I thought.
It would be a big yes from me https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3557718/watford-marco-silva-hull-boss-walter-mazzarri/
Also in the Sunday Times yesterday and Times today. Same ultimate ownership as The Times, and almost certainly uses the Times' news-gathering capability.
I think I'd rather stick with the manager who kept his team up, than the one who got his relegated. He is very dishy though.
Mazzarri : 1 July 2016 -> Present Games : 40 Won :12 Drawn 7 Lost 21 Win % : 30.00 Silva : 5 January 2017 -> Present Games : 21 Won : 8 Drawn: 3 Lost: 10 Win %: 38.10 Obviously Hull have been relegated but statistically Marco Silva has out performed Walter. I think that Marco Silva ticks a lot of boxes for what we're looking for.
Quite an interesting table, it's all relative and about perception of course but since Jan 'only' has 3 more points than Maz... but when putting that in to context he turned a seemingly dead and buried Hull side selling 2 of their better players and reshaping them getting them playing some good football. I personally think he’s shown enough in difficult circumstances at Hull to be worth taking a punt on and seeing how he does over a full season perhaps with a bit more transfer pulling power behind him to shape a side. As I said in another thread about him I think he would suit our club as he has got underperforming misfits from other clubs looking good like Markovic and even Niasse to an extent which is the type of player we seem to target in the market and most importantly the Hull players all seemed to speak very highly of him. I would be happy with him if we were to make the change.
I would be happy with Silva coming in if the rumors are true. He seems to get a bunch of players playing as a team, can spot and change a game and now has 6 months experience in the Premier League. With the squad Hull have they should have gone down a long time ago. he gave them belief something I think our mob lack. Add to that this guy is a lot more media friendly than Wally, can speak English and appears to have handled himself well. As much as I want Wally gone I do think this next appointment is crucial.
Even though his English is decent, Conte said he wasn't fluent enough to give the kind of rousing team talks he wanted to. And anyone old enough to remember what difference a GT half time team talk made will also not underestimate the power of the spoken word. Whoever is in charge next season needs to speak the common language of the club....oh wait. It's Italian.
Yes, but what were our respective starting-points? A thin squad of Champ-quality players taken over mid-season at a club where all the fans hate the owner and most of them stay away, or a big squad of mid-Prem level players, some with a dodgy attitude but most of them internationals experienced in top leagues, where the fans get behind the team until such time as they lose confidence in the head coach? And for most of the time Silva was in charge, they were playing much better football than Watford (not that that puts the bar very high).
Rumours now also going round about Rodgers. you have to say that despite how he left us, he has far more premier league experience, has dealt with top quality players, plays decent football and has developed the younger players. You get the feeling that leaving Swansea for Liverpool was a step to far and that Watford is the right size club for him.
So, the early runners and riders being chucked around by the press seem to be Marco Silva, Claudio Ranieri and this Slutski character. Out of those, I'd prefer Silva but expecting it to be a name out of the blue. Surely after all this season's issues, whoever it is will be able to speak English to a reasonable level?
