Yeah personally I wouldn't of rejected that offer but his value could double by the summer comes and even if it that happens we're benefiting so
:dismay::rant: *have Learn your English! Britt's price would inflate as he's a young homegrown talent. I would have loved to have seen him get a run in the team this season...
There are no facts whatsoever which prove that - it wasn't meant in a malicious way, i was just wondering what makes you think that both of them will go on to better things than Britt?? They both seem to be highly rated but Britt is banging them in in League 1
To be fair, I think Peterborough would expect a striker they paid well over a million to score a fair amount of goals in league 1.
I very much doubt our sell on is as a % of the gross sales price. More likely of the profit. Peterborough are not going to want to sell for a net loss.
I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying we have first refusal on Assombalonga. What does this clause mean exactly?
My understanding is that if another team bids for Assombalonga, Posh has to come to us and we say whether we want to bid for him or not (and then I guess we get a bit of favouritism). But I'm not too sure of it myself. What I do know is that just because you're the top goalscorer in League 1, it doesn't mean you will end up banging them in in the Championship. Stats prove that much more often that not, since the re-naming of Division 1 to Championship in 2004, the majority of the top 4 goalscorers from each League 1 season end up flopping in the Championship. In fact, only 2/3 have ended up making an "instant impact" (I'm defining this as playing in the Championship in the first season after their first time as a top 4 League 1 goalscorer). This number can be extended to 6 if you don't count "instant impact". However, I'd rather we had him than some-one else. I get the feeling that we only sold him to raise some money to reduce our debt, and he was really the only sale we could have made last season. This year though, we can sell more players and get more money for them (e.g. Diego Fabbrini, Javier Acuna and I think Iriney as well) so we can afford to take Assombalonga back and see how well he would do.
Ironic isn't it, Britt is scoring for fun and so is Joe Garner  What a shame we don't have them doing it for us :forehead::forehead::forehead:
Surely the fact that Joe Garner is also scoring for fun in league 1 makes us less likely to regret letting Britt go?
Ever thought Britt might have had something to do with the decision to leave ?!! As in he wanted regular football and didn't want to sit behind Troy, Fessi, Fab and Acuna
In a nut shell if someone makes an official bid for him, Peterboring have to inform us and if we match that bid they have to sell him to us instead of the other team....
Surely we don't have to match any bid. We put a hefty sell on percentage so assuming the figure was 40%, we would only have to pay 60% of the other teams bid. Another point is Assombalonga might not want to come back anyway.
Why on earth not ... plenty of games pre-season followed by reserve team football, what more could an ambitious young footballer want ???
Can we redeem our own sell on clause in a purchase we make? I don't know the answer but guess it depends on what the contract states.
I remember a player Southampton had called Rickie Lambert. Was leading scorer in League One a couple of seasons ago, but was unable to make the step up when they got promoted.
Not sure if this was aimed at me, but I did include him in the 6 strikers who ended up making the step up to the Championship.
Well, other than one season which seems to have been momentum as much as anything, he actually has struggled...
Not aimed at anyone, I was only making the point that each player is an individual and you can't apply rules such as 'league one top scorer will struggle'. It depends on the individual's skills and motivation. For what it's worth, I think Assombalonga looks technically excellent and could make the step up.
He's got a point when taking about Top Scorers the list of League 1 top scorers proves that point but..... 05/06: Freddy Eastwood - flop 06/07: Billy Sharp - average 07/08: Jason Scotland - good (24 goals in Swansea Championship season) 08/09: Simon Cox - Rubbish 09/10: Rickie Lambert - Excellent 10/11: Craig Mackail Smith - Average 11/12: Jordan Rhodes - Excellent 12/13: Paddy Madden - God knows how he's ended up in League Two.. Players like Danny Graham and Deeney who only scored 13 or 14 goals a season in League 1 have gone on to be excellent Championship players so it's all about the individual.
Both of you make the same point and it's a point that I agree with. My point is aimed at those saying that we should get Assombalonga back and chuck him into the first team BECAUSE he is the top goalscorer in League 1 and is banging them in for fun. It needs to be done on an individual basis and we need to get the right striker who is on form, cheap and most importantly can play in the desired system of the manager. I'm not entirely sure if Assombalonga would work in this system, and even if he might, there's a very good player in Deeney standing in his way to first-team football.
Linked with a £4mil move to Hull. Source is yesterday's Sun newspaper (I'm reading it in the garage waiting for my car, don't judge me)
Assombalonga: 1 goal every 168.5 minutes in the League. 1 goal every 150 minutes in League and cup. Ikpeazu: 1 goal every 150 minutes (hasn't played any cup games) Ikpeazu also plays for a team sitting on place above the relegation zone whereas Britt plays for a team in the playoffs.
This thread is getting insane. Assombalonga still has three or four years to reach his prime and ikpeazu is another three year younger than him yet most of the players they're being compared with were grown men when they stepped up. Also the quality of these players academy background has a major role but even that's just another one of so many variables. Get real!
