Britt is a main feature interview on Sky today. They keep showing his goal last night. Very good strike as well. I think he's now scored 5 in 5 matches for them and doing very well.
Do we have a sell on fee? I thought we only had a match accepted bid clause, meaning that if Peterborough accept a bid, which would get higher and higher the better he plays, then they have to accept a bid of the same price from us, if we make one. Is this not the case?
We have first refusal. If we weren't to buy him back I'm sure there would be a sell-on to cover us too.
Seems to be a massive mistake selling him. Great start to the season and an inspirational performance today. Two stunning goals and won a penalty.
I cannot understand why we sold him either; but we have to remember although he has had a terrific start to the season and seems to be scoring for fun, it is at a lower level; so could he have done as well at Championship level? I guess we will never know now
He was not quite ready to be considered for the first team and I think Peterborough surprised the club with their offer meeting the club's valuation. It was a reluctant sale, but seeing what the kid is doing now though, I think you can consider the sale was a mistake. The quality of his goals yesterday was top drawer, and although he's playing in a lower league, it's only one behind the Championship. After a year of playing like this, he will be more than ready to step up and be a force.
Didn't have an issue with Troy Deeney, Danny Graham or Marlon King taking the step up to the championship.
Let's see how he does for the whole season, shall we? Scored 4 goals in his last 27 matches for Southend. Personally think we got a great deal for him, what with the price, the buy back option and the probable sell on clause. £1.5m for Britt. Replaced by Acuna for £0.
Its not a buy back option is it? I thought it was that clause where you are given the opportunity to match any bid before its accepted, which is meaningless if a club is willing to pay more than us. It was a great deal at the time but in hindsight, possibly not the best option.
Frontrow, with all due respect, if you think Fabbrini is **** poor, then your opinion on football has become invalid. Harsh, but true.
Not saying you're wrong yet by any means, but we know nothing about Acuna to suggest he's a brilliant replacement. He's looked bright and different to what we have so far but hasn't really threatened the goal anymore than anyone else. That's not to say he won't of course but Assombalonga has actually delivered what we need for Peterborough unlike Acuna for us
Fabbrini himself admitted doubts about being suited to the physicality of the championship before he signed. He has contributed well so far and can only get better as the season progresses.
He's a little small for a prem centre forward and not creative enough for a prem second striker. Ikpeazu is understudy to Deeney, Fab and Fessi have the support role. Jag and Mensah are highly rated. Assombalonga is certainly championship quality and will have a great career at this level, it was probably the right call to sell him.
Saturday was the first game I have been able to attend this season and I was disappointed with his performance as I had read good things about him. Yes he made a great opening and shot for himself that led to the goal but other than that he seemed to commit several silly fouls and fall on the floor several times clutching parts of his body when tackled without winning a free kick. It seems I was just unlucky to come to the first game when we did not really perform as a team at all.
Remember, going into the game Fabbrini was classed as a doubt. He has been kicked to **** in this league already and we are only 6 games in. He has class and skill, he needs time to grow into the game just like Forestieri did. It'll happen.
A lot of teams in League 1 are absolute cack, pretty sure if Fabbrini or Acuna were in there they'd have scored more then Assombalonga. In my opinion it was a mistake letting him go permanently (instead of on loan) but obviously the management thought that we had enough up front. Very early days yet, 'balonga might lose his form and Forest might get a hat-trick tomorrow night.
Oh dear got ridiculed for saying it was a mistake selling and now he's banging in the goals (league one you say, so did Graham etc) and we're lacking pace and goals up top with Deeney now without a goal in 4. It's ok though we've got Acuna, but wait he's not proven at this level either.
We are still a selling club and always will be. There is no guarantee that he will be good enough for the championship let alone the Premiership where we are aiming to be and £1.5m-£2m is to good to turn down for an unproven player. It may well be a mistake but only time will tell. By the tone of your post it would suggest that you have been proved correct in seeling him was a mistake. Not yet you haven't!
Said it before and I'll say it again. Judge him at the end of the season. Still maintain we made the right choice and got a good deal for him.
Looks football league show have a feature on him tonight. What does our 'first refusal' clause mean? The chance to match a bid before it's accepted or something more useful?
Gareth Bale even congratulated the P'Boro chairman for the signing of Britt apparently. Oh and he scored again.
Good on Britt, doing a fine job at boro.. However FLS also said Watford are now 100 goals in 54 games under Zola. Not like we are not scoring by selling him but still we still dont have that stand in for Deeney and Brit would've certainly been there this year for that role.
Don't quite understand what Bale's doing sending a shirt over to the Peterborough chairman after Britt signed. Is there a connection I'm totally missing?
Was trying to think of that as well. Agent? Brit did grow up in North London as a lad before he went to Hertswood for 6th form and the Impact scheme there. He is from a good church going family, perhaps Mr Bale went to the same one whilst at Spurs? Can't see Bale being mates with Mackell-Smith, Barry's son in law either!
I believe he did not play on Saturday (they lost) but he has not scored in the previous 8 league games
Think this happened at Southend too, quite strange but still hope he makes it in a decent league rather than fading away
Young players have up and downs. You'd think Watford fans would know that by now after seeing so many come through the academy. He'll make a good career for himself.
Don't understand your reference to our academy? Ross Jenkins and Lee Hodson had great starts to their career... look where they are now
Lee Hodson plays regularly at League One level and makes it into almost every Northern Ireland squad, I'd say that's a pretty successful career so far for a 21 year old.
And to be fair Ross Jenkins played over 80 games for us and had a bad injury. Since that injury he was never the same player.
