Wow, did not see this. And to be honest I think we have made a big mistake. At least we have the first option to buy him back!
The fact that there is a by back clause or first option to resig on this deal suggests to me that we could be trying to raise funds to buy another player, but with the intention to have him back when we are more sustainable? Hopefully with EPL money?
Club record signing by Pboro I imagine we didn't want to sell, so they probably had to use a significant chunk of the money they got for Gayle
Very surprised by this - expected a loan, but not a permanent deal. They're record transfer prior to this was £1.1 million and McAnthony has tweeted its a record transfer fee, so we've got decent money for him. Plus to have first refusal means we might not have seen the last of him in a Watford shirt. Could possibly be shrewd business if he develops into the player he looks like he might become.
A little bit surprising but according to a Posh fan on twitter it has broken their transfer fee redord so would be over 1.1m!! I'm sure Zola was asked about him and maybe he thought he wouldn't make it at this level and higher. He has played a lot in pre season so they would have plenty of time to make the decision. Thought he would go on loan though
Their Chairman said they have "smashed" their record transfer fee (which was £1.1m) so bearing in mind they fleeced Palace for about £8m for Gayle... im guessing we got around £2m for him, which is very good business, with the first option clause as well If we could go back in time now, we'd have sold Massey to Liverpool/Man Ciy for £1m, so you can't always tell if a promising youngster will kick on
Why? Deeney, Acuna, Fabbrini and Forestieri to cover two positions. Exactly the same amount as we had last year. We also have Impeazu who they may think is the better option for the future plus possibly Geijo
Why's it gutting or sad news people? We obviously don't need to sell, he's been sold because he weren't good enough clearly? But there is potential there hence the fact there's a buy back option. A 7 figure sum for someone who unproven is bloody good business when people on here were saying Hogg didn't warrant 7 figures? A romantic Fabregas back to Barca sort of thing in 5 years time when we're playing Europa League football and he's just scored 30 goals in the Championship.
£2m would be a decent bit of business for both clubs. Burra will bounce back IMO, last season they were very decent in between the sloppiness.
Last year Vydra scored 20, Deeney scored 20. Personally can't see Acuna getting 20 goals and doubts about Fabbrini and Fessi as out and out goal getters. A natural striker as competition for Deeney and Acuna would be nice IMO but I can see why others disagree.
Am I right in thinking, a buy back option usually means you get the option to sign a player for the same sum that is accepted from another team? So if say in 2 years time someone bids 5mill we have to match it? If we wanted him....
I liked Assombalonga, mainly because of his name. In all seriousness, I'm not sure he'll ever make it past Championship level so selling now for a good fee is sensible. It's still strange to me that we're selling our (5th?) choice striker for over a million.
I was suspicious of this last night, thought it should have been a game he should have played in. Took the baite he was heading to the first team though. At least D Payne has less of a mouth full this year.
That's first refusal yeah like if Arsenal match Man Utd's 35 million bid for Fabregas, Arsenal get first choice, I Believe. A buy back clause is just like a release clause, a set price agreed during negotiations. I think.
Ok, so they couldn't move Murray's registration over to Udinese for £10M then if they wanted to move cash around the business?
I think people are disappointed because he acually was a good rep for the type of player produced from the academy. However, £1.1+m for him is a fairly good deal, especially if we put in the usual youth player related clauses.
Vydra signing as back up, has to be the real reason for the sale of Britt. I'll get me coat :naughty:
Doesn't FFP mean you have to make eacjv club sustainable, so considering we've had all of our transfers as frees, if we want to buy from a club say in England we have to sell.
Sad to see him go but as I've said before how many strikers do we really need... Zola will have his work cut out keeping his 4 first choice strikers happy, opportunities for Britt would have been slim. This way Britt gets to play a ton of football in a club which can put a lot of their focus on him, and give him the opportunity and the attention to develop into the top player we all think he can become. We start to contribute financially to the Pozzo business model which is no bad thing. Best thing all round.
Pretty annoyed at this to be honest, feel he could have had an impact this season with his out and out pace. Couldn't really care less if Posh broke their farking transfer record to get him, let's say that's around £1.5M. It's not as if we need the money and a buy back clause is all well and good but who's to say he'd want to come back, barely been given a chance and now been shunted off in favour of some unknowns from Udinese. Are the club that desperate to reach the PL that they're not willing to give youngsters a go in and around the first team? Poor show.
There are plenty of creative accounting ways to get around FFP without resorting to selling players we otherwise might want to keep. When you own 3 clubs in 3 different countries and can 'move' players between them at whatever value you choose it is very simple. We've just moved a dozen players with a book value of circa £30M for free, right under the noses of the entire global football industry, and not one single person has made a single peep about it!
