Man Utd and Brighton away! If they win the replay it will be their 5th straight home draw! Interestingly it will mean their last three opponents will be Burnley, Hull and us..all clubs promoted out of the championship in the last three seasons!
I know.....I've also checked that. That will teach me to listen to the BBC and not researching my own facts. They said Arsenal have been drawn 15 times at home consecutively. Mind you they also said Britos is a Northern Ireland international and Watford play at Vicarage Park yesterday.....so I should have known better.
Let's hope they get a decent result this week against Barca. I would prefer Arsenal as its closer, no other reason. We're top half in the PL so I reckon we have a chance.
They were drawn away to Brighton in the 4th round.. and United in the 6th round. Granted they get more than their fair share of home ties but its not been 15 in a row. * Sorry to repeat whats already been said.. didnt see Maltesers post above*
Hull is by no means an easy game for Arsenal. Arsenal fielded a weakened side away at Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup and they were hammered 3-0! I would imagine Wenger would field a weakened side with one or two quality players in there like Ozil and/or Sanchez. A lot depends on the hammering they get from Barcelona this week, they could be out before the second leg begins! Either way, any game you get at this stage is tough. You've got to beat the best to be the best.
so let me get this straight: - on tuesday night we need to support arsenal to hope that they still have something to play for in the second leg - at the replay we really ought to support hull, as theoretically they will be the easier game in the quarter finals football is a funny old game sometimes.
Arsenal will be playing at home though and even against Barca it's unlikely that the tie would be completely out of reach. They've overturned deficits and salvaged ties against the odds before, so even if they lose 1-3, it would be pretty foolish to give up on the Champions League for the sake of a competition they've already won twice in the last two seasons and hold the record for the most wins. Would you have said that if Hull had won yesterday? And this prospective tie is only "horrible" in terms of the location, especially if it's on a Friday night. Bottom line is, in the unlikely event that Hull get through, we will be playing at a side that weren't good enough for the Premier League last season despite John Carver's best efforts, who are top because of points in the bag (Boro will go above them if they win their game in hand), and we've already won at all the bottom three teams. And the team that beat them at Hull in the league were Derby (winning 2-0) and they were recently held to a 0-0 there against Brighton. This is pretty academic though as I'm quite certain that Arsenal will win the replay, for reasons just given.
Not only is the Hull replay very inconvenient for Arsenal, but we're actually a very good draw for Hull. They'll be well aware that, if they get past a weakened Arsenal, they have a winnable home game against us to look forward to. That should be some motivation.
Yeah! We best not mention the result! I had to do a double take at that BBC stat because, when you think about it, you can only get 4 home draws per season..so to get 15 in a row means that was 8 times in the last two years they won the cup but then another 7 over the preceding seasons when they didn't! Moose of Talk Sport tweeted tonight that if we play Arsenal it will be 1984 all over again but of course it was 87 we had that famous quarter final win at Highbury. We last met Arsenal in the cup in Vialli's season I think
Whatever happens both Arsenal & Hull have more important midweek fixtures in the week after the tie is due to take place. Arsenal away to Barca on Weds 16th & Hull play Tuesday 15th v Forest and Friday 18th v Middlesboro.
Has anyone any idea when the replay of Hull-Arsenal will be? I'm booked to come over early Sat to late Sun, but worrying the replay might be fixed for the weekend of the QF!
Wouldn't surprise me if it was the 12th. The quarter final dates seem to run from the Friday to the Monday anyway.
Haha you're right...it was a totally uninteresting statistic by a poster with too much time on her hands this evening..apologies.
Well it wont be anymore than the League game which is £36.50.. i believe the 2nd lowest we will be charged this season in the Prem. The Hull game was a 'cat c' so they would have paid £26. Whoever it was who said they were gonna mortgage their house is in for a shock!
Arsenal will beat Hull, we will lose to Arsenal. Cr*p draw really, now we know how Leeds must have felt drawing us.
Genuinely didn't know you are a she, Malt. I'm rubbing my hands up and down my thighs, Vic Reeves style.
fantastic draw! Hope we get Arsenal rather than Hull though. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
If we do meet Arsenal and we do lose, it will be disappointing but we will have done so to the winners of the cup the last two seasons and a team vying to be PL champions..in other words, we will be big underdogs and its a match few will expect us to win. We've lost every match to the current top 5 in the league this season, after all. It will be horrible if our cup run ends there, but I suggest it will feel a little easier to take than had we drawn a mid table team and lost (or get and lose to Hull) and we will spend all Summer thinking we blew a great chance of going all the way. At the risk of upsetting my friend Lloyd lol, a few more stats This will be our 10th cup quarter final. So far we've won 5 and lost 4, one after a replay. It could be our 3rd v Arsenal. The beat us in 79-80 on their way to a third successive final (coincidence eh!) we did them in 87. We last played them in the cup in 01-02 Vialli's season. We last played Hull in the cup in 88 and beat them in a second replay. We made the quarters that year abd it was the last time we've lost at that stage
One of the cheaper away days of the season isn't it? £36.50 for the league. Suspect the Cup may be cheaper but certainly no more expensive.
