No chance play the kids/trialists lets get as high up the league as we can Arsenal at home is a sacrificial tie
If we are away to Arsenal as looks likely, They are away to Barcleona on Wed 16/3. This could impact their team selection.possibly.
Other thoughts on the draw.. Palace will feel they deserved to get a championship team, after knocking out 3 PL CLubs. Pardew return to his old club. Vydra one game from a Wembley appearance, a ground he limped off injured at last time he was there. West Ham denied one last cup tie at Upton Park unless they draw. If United win tomorrow, West Ham will be their first PL opponents in the cup this season. Everton v Chelsea sees Hiddink re-matched against the team he beat in the final to win the cup the last time he was caretaker manager. It's Everton's 5th QF in the last 6 seasons. I will predict Watford, Palace, Man Utd and Everton for the semis
To an embarrassing Semi Final defeat with a wine waiter in goal. Do you really want a repeat of that? PS We played Birmingham away in the QF of 84.
I don't think this is as bad as it looks on paper. The cup is not a priority for Arsenal this season and remember Wednesday beat them 3-0 in the league cup at the start of the season when they played a weakened side. There's no way they will go full strength with the champions league and premier league trophies in their grasp.
Cracking draw, much better than Chelsea who basically need to win the cup or sit out of Europe next season ... Arsenal will be concentrating on the Champions League and a Champions League spot in the PL.
There's a certain amount of logic to that! I believe you're very lucky if you get this far in the cup and get an easy draw. The year Pompey won it, they went to Old Trafford in the quarters. If it's your year, it's your year you accept what you're given and do your best to find a way through. Right now, with respect to the non PL teams left, I think there will be 7 clubs all thinking it's their year to win it. That we are one of those clubs is exciting and I hope we will all enjoy the build up to the tie.
If it's Arsenal we get 9% 5,400, not 15%. Due to Safety Advisory Group (council, police, fire, Arsenal). Would much prefer Arsenal than Hull. Would fancy our chances too.
What makes you so sure though that Hull will play anything like Forest and Leeds? I mean they may understandably think that if a team as mediocre as Leeds can restrict us to one shot on target they'll have a decent chance especially with that mean defence of theirs (19 goals conceded in 31 games) but I imagine while playing at home their fans will demand a more attacking display than Forest and Leeds offered, which may suit us.
People should remember too that we did compete well with Arsenal in the league match until the opening goal. True, after that we fell apart but up to the hour mark we held our own..
Agree we'll be safe by the 6th round Hull's priority will be promotion Arsenal will have Barcelona away 3 days later, so lets hope they get a good result this week and have something to play for We on the other hand will have the FA cup to concentrate on
I've not said we won't win, but it's one of the hardest ties we could have been given, that's why I am personally disappointed. If it's Arsenal away then it is a hard for any team and Hull away is a horrible draw. I think Hull could well win the replay. They've only lost one match at home all season and are very hard to score against. They've kept 13 clean sheets at home and also knocked out Swansea and Leicester of the League Cup at home this season. Arsenal have had 15 home ties on a spin......now that's true luck of the cup.
The Hull vs Arsenal game is on the 2nd March apparently, according to flashscores http://www.flashscores.co.uk/team/arsenal/hA1Zm19f/fixtures/ It looks like Arsenal are re-scheduling their home game with Swansea, which means they will be playing Hull away three days after going to Old Trafford, AND three before going to Spurs! If this is true, I reckon we will be playing Hull in the QF!
That's a cracking draw. We need to beat good teams to win this thing, so why not Arsenal at the end of a crap run with Barcelona on the horizon? I'd have preferred a home tie, but we can't be too fussy.
The chances are Arsenal get a battering in the first leg with Barca so will put out a strong side against us so that Wenger can have a go at winning a trophy and keep himself in a job. Will be interesting to see what team Hull put out for the replay as their first team would beat Arsenal's reserves.
L No no I was teasing you because of your 'Arsenal are Arsenal' comment..I know what you meant but I was just teasing you that there was some good logic there!! If it's Arsenal, we need to field our strongest side, play out of our skins and pray Oliver isn't ref. it's a very tough ask but not impossible. By the way, you're forgetting Arsenal drew United away on their way to winning it last year! This is actually their 5th straight home draw, not 15!
New Odds for FA Cup after draw: Chelsea 3/1 Arsenal 7/2 Man U 4/1 Palace 8/1 Everton 8/1 West Ham 9/1 Watford 20/1!! Reading 50/1 Hull 80/1 Shrewsbury 500/1 That is great value, if Hull beat Arsenal, I reckon we will be around the 8-10/1 mark. Good time to put a bet on our boys.
Arsenal will be out of Europe by the time the Quarters come around I suspect but it will be interesting to see which team they put out at Hull baring.
Given the fact that is - the most boring dull cup run EVER - lets hope Arsenal go through and put us out. I could not stand another BORE FEST.
Don't forget that Arsenal are also on course to win the cup for the 3rd successive season so that'll mean something to Wenger, particularly if it does go **** up against Barce this week.
I don't think we did! We won 4-2 in 1982 and 3-1 in the cup in 87. A repeat of either of these would be incredible
Ever the loyal Watford fan, I had a little flutter..on Everton at 8-1 lol. I still have this vision of us meeting them in the final.
