When was the last time we were drawn against a xxxx OR xxxx? I can't remember the last time and I'm loving the exciting mystery of this draw.
If they draw or lose a couple of games between now and then I know where their motivation and focus will be and it won't be the cup.
For a laugh, go check how confident the Arsenal forum is... It's along the lines of "treble on, easy draw yet again"
Not sure it was the last time but in 06-07 we drew United or Boro in the semi final and all sat watching the replay praying United would lose! UPDATED..in 12-13 it was actually Watford or Bristol City v Man City or Blackburn!!
Arsenal seem pretty pleased with the draw http://www.justarsenal.com/arsenal-happy-with-home-fa-cup-draw-with-watford/48243
There may be a mystery of when it would be played Arsenal fixtures; they have a gap in the week between 5th and 12th. Hull City fixtures; they have a fixture that week and by the looks of things they have a horrendous backlog. Look at April! If they hold the replay on the weekend of the 6th round, we can't play our League fixture scheduled for that weekend as West Ham are still in the cup. As we don't have any mid-weekers (apart from West Ham away) we can be a bit flexible.
Must be a North London thing - Spurs were going to win the treble as well. Both just seem to totally dismiss Leicester as any threat for the title it seems. I suppose its easier from their point of view than Chelsea and maybe West Ham but....they have to beat Hull first.
As far as a draw goes it may seem a bit ****, but then, if we're to win the cup, we are going to have to earn it at some point. Sure we could keep hoping for easy draws, but I'd rather lose to Arsenal now, than on a big day out to Wembley. What's more, we've more chance of beating them in a non-showpiece match during a congested shedule. If we lose to Arsenal, then winning the cup was never our destiny. But if we win, then we have a downhill roll to lifting the trophy. Of course hull might make all this academic.
I'm quite happy tbh. Means i'll get a day out at Arsenal when I otherwise probably wouldn't have been able to go!
For the game on Saturday, Arsenal made 9 changes, and Hull actually made 10! Seemed that no-one really wanted this, and a draw was the worse result for both. If anything, it said a lot when it was actually Steve Bruce that was doing most of the whingeing about having a replay. You would of thought getting a draw at the Emirates, and the extra revenue from the replay would have made his day, but no. Whoever comes through will still be seeing this FA Cup as a distraction. Still convinced this is a great draw.
I agree....neither manager wanted a replay......but when you get to the QF stage I believe the stakes are raised. I don't think either team will be significantly weakened when there's a semi-final place on offer. The further you go in this competition the more serious people tend take it. With regards to the result of the replay, unless Arsenal play a full strength team, I think they will almost certainly lose it. Hull City are having a fantastic season and are very impressive at home.
Tricky draw whoever we play although I'd prefer it to be Arsenal on the basis I think we'd under-estimate Hull and sleep-walk to a loss. At least we've played the Arse already, so in theory the squad should know what to expect. Plus, we are their FA Cup QF bogey side. A repeat of the scenes at Highbury would be highly amusing.
I was at the game. I think Wilf scored our goal.....and we were robbed. We played really well, but they took their chances and big Pat Jennings played a blinder for them.
This is a controversial question that may divide opinion Would you swap 3 points at the Emirates for a win at the Emirates in the FA cup sponsered by Emirates? i.e prefer a win in league or cup away to Arsenal
Now I understand why they get so many home ties. But to answer the question.....FA Cup win without any shadow of doubt.
Before Newcastle/Palace games would probably have wanted to take the 3 points, given our current points tally and position would now go for the Cup game win.
Cup, 1 million percent! To be honest, it's a meh draw. There are so many top teams left in that while this isn't massively great, it's not particularly massively bad either. It's the not-knowing who we have that I hate more than the bloody draw itself. Feels so un-satisfyingly unsettled. But despite everything, despite the final outcome, we got further than flamin' spurs and I can fully live with that warm and fuzzy feeling this year.
Here's one for Malt The winners of the 6th round actually reveive more prize money from the F.A. For winning that round than the previous three rounds together, additional to that the losing semi-finalist receive prize money, something that doesn't happen in previous rounds, see below 3rd round winners £67,500 4th round winners £90.000 5th round winners £180,000 (making our total so far £337,500) 6th round winners £360,000 Semi finalist winners £900,000 Semi finalist losers £450,000 Final winners £1,800,000 final losers £900,000 Therefore the winner of the 6th round apart from receiving £360,000 is guaranteed at least another £450,000 should they lose the semi-final, you could say to win the 6th round is worth £810,000!
Is that prize money or share of Wembley gate receipts in the semi? Or does it replace hate receipts given all the money goes to FA?
Prize money, the two participating clubs both receive 32.5% of the ticket money left after deduction of all expenses, including hire of the ground, match officials fees and both clubs travelling expenses etc.
Four years ago drawing Arsenal away in the 1/4 finals of the FA cup would have been a big thing, a money spinner, live on tele, earning us more money, keeping us in business. Now it's a disappointing draw It shows just how far we have come and just how premiership our fans have come
I think in any 1/4 final draw you want the easiest game, as you're so close to the semi final at this point. Personally I didn't want Everton or Chelsea, as they are the only 2 "big" clubs taking it seriously. When they came out first I was happy with whatever we got after that.
From what I gather, this is the common consensus on timings..correct me if this is wrong.. The earliest the replay can take place is 7 March, because cup ties can't take place on Champions League weeks. That would be 48 hours after Arsenal meet Spurs. If Hull and Arsenal don't agree to that, the replay would have to be played on the weekend of the 6th Round. It sounds a bit defeatest to think we'd like to play our opponents at the least convenient time for them so they might field a weaker side and/or be knackered, because we are a fine team in our own rights and should be capable of giving either a good match BUT I really hope the replay is 7 March..both teams will have played in the league 48/72 hours previously..then we can take part in 6th Round weekend, and if it's Arsenal we face, its just before their Barca tie. For those thinking Hull would go hell for leather against us if they win the replay, it's worth noting they made 10 changes at the Emirates and had a 16 year old at left-back. I remain of the opinion that the Cup isn't top priority for either Arsenal and Hull, both face fixture congestion, and either team CAN be beaten by us.
When is the date for the reply likely to be announced? And if it is put back to the weekend scheduled for the quarter finals, what date are they proposing that we play the winners? Could Arsenal/Hull go to a second replay? Questions, questions...
when the draw was made I was sickened by getting (most likely) arsenal away, but on reflection they are probably the best of the "big clubs" we could have hoped for, for reasons already outlined. Shame it's away, but let's hope our manager really goes for it now. Full strength team and none of the negative nonsense we've seen away from home at these sorts of clubs so far. It will be awful if we go out to an arsenal reserve side though. Edit and you cant really be surprised the arsenal fans are happy and confident about the draw. At home, against one of the weakest teams left (on paper), and a team who they've already spanked 3-0 away.
