Always nice to win - so that in itself isn't negative. But I still just feel so very flat. Don't really have anything more to add to it!
You will feel the same overall if we somehow now beat Wigan, Lootown and Huddersfield all in a row. Season has been flat since the WC break.
The most number of points a team has missed out on the play-offs with is Wolves with 78 in 2014/15. Millwall are only on course to get 75 points (and we have closed in on their GD) and apart from possibly Boro I don’t see any of the teams between us and Sheff Utd going on phenomenal runs, so I highly doubt 77 points will see us miss out. All we can do is focus on getting enough points and not bother too much about what the other teams do - a double over the scum (realistically the highest team we can catch) would do a lot for our hopes and morale, mind.
Obviously nice to see some goals but overall that game was pretty dull. They were beyond terrible, we were ok and that was good enough.
Yeah, I definitely did not watch or listen to it tonight. Checked the final score, that's about the most I can bring myself to do at this point.
Troy would have probably scored itv! Was a worrying start to the 2nd half . We just didn’t react to their changes .
On another note, I seriously hope Bachmann is shown the door in the summer. We got very lucky with some his “saves” tonight. The moron parried the ball back into the danger zone on more than one occasion. I can’t stand him.
I play in a band with a Luton fan. At rehearsal tonight he was telling me when the goals were going in. #bridgingthedivide
I’m such a flake. I wasn’t going to go right up until 5:30, then I caved in. I hate myself for it, but there you go. First half was probably our best performance of the season. Certainly right up there with Luton. 4-0 wouldn’t have flattered us. Apart from the goals, Ngakia hit a screamer which smashed the post. I was right in line with it and it didn’t deviated at all. Kone whizzed one just past the post and Cathcart missed an easy chance with a header. Second half, we just wilted. 2-0 could and probably should have been 2-2 within the first 6 or 7 minutes. They missed two absolute sitters. Bachmann was by far the busier keeper, but they were soft at the back and we secured the win with a third against the run of play. Great run by Kone. Probably a fair result, considering the first half dominance, but we can’t overlook the way we fell apart in the second half. QPR’s result tonight really underlined what such an appalling performance we gave on Saturday. But it was nice to get a 3-0 win, even though in the grand scheme of things it means nothing.
Fair point - certainly was rather haphazard then . Maybe summing up our season . Even a 3-0 win had worrying moments .
Great win, thought we played well for the majority of the game and had a very dodgy spell for about ten minutes after half time. We had a recognised pattern of play with midfield runners which is something we haven't had for a few years. Davis took his goal well and actually fought his battles which makes the past few months even more frustrating. Ngakia had probably his best game for us and nearly scored a goal of the season contender. I'm enjoying watching Kone, he is growing as a player and becoming more settled, he had good movement and was always willing to take the ball. I thought Birmingham were half decent and moved the ball round well, that Hannibal in particular looks a good player. It wasn't perfect but it's something to build on.
Yeah the win is all good and we played well for 20-30 minutes, but we’re still not going to make the playoffs.
I highly doubt 77 points would see us miss out either, it’s much more then fact we currently only have 54 points with 27 to play for, so we’d need to win 7 of our last 9 and draw one of the other two get to 77 in the first place. If you don’t see any of the other teams (Boro aside) going on a phenomenal run, what is about our season to date that makes us different to them? There are also Coventry, WBA and Norwich currently between us and the playoffs, so even if were to catch Millwall (beaten us twice this season) who are two wins ahead of us with 9 games left, we’d still have to better the results of 3 other teams to take advantage.
The big positives were, we had energy and moved the ball quickly, at least in the first half. Everyone knew their roles, so Davies was reasonably effective, Pedro didn’t try to play the Pirlo role and Bacuna was always on hand to push a player over. Negative was, we lost control for a period, that against better teams, would have seen us throw it away. So it’s better, but simply one, tentative step, towards an effective team.
Lets be honest we’ll probably lose or draw Saturday! I find we never do well in back to back Tuesday /Saturday (other way round ) home games . No chance of us winning all the away games we have left either . Them Coventry Hull Sunderland Probably do well to get 2 wins in that lot.
Best and most balanced post about the game so far. Our problem, and this has been going back the last 18 months, is not being able to build on any mini-runs or performances of promise. I am basing our chances of getting to the play-offs on the fact that a number of teams in the past have put together runs of form seemingly out of nowhere after looking doomed to relegation or well and truly out of the play-off race, but it’s no more than that - I still have this nagging feeling that this season will end in similar fashion to the Vialli and 2013/14 seasons, a couple of decent performances followed by a damp squib of an end to finish well short of the play-offs, even if Wilder is a far better manager than both Vialli and Sannino. It’s a strange season - we have won 7 games against the top 8, already an improvement on 2020/21 and far better than 2005/06 and 2014/15 which shows there is some capability in the team, so why under three more than competent managers haven’t we shown it more often? Is it due to some malaise affecting the squad stemming from the horrors of last season?
Was that their left winger, number 11 I think? He put in some decent crosses and had the better of Ngakia for most of the 2nd half. As for the Hogan miss, it was awful. Easily one of the worst misses I've seen for a long time
The number 6 with fuzzy hair . He did play well - on loan from Arsenal I think? Definitely got away with one there .
