Obviously OGS wasn’t to know it would go to a shootout but it was always a distinct possibility and De Gea’s record compared to Henderson is absolutely shocking.

The Villarreal keeper didn’t exactly cover himself in glory (until the save of course) as he should’ve saved three of them, especially shaw and Fernandez, but from De Geas point of view, if you can’t guess right at least 1 time out of 10 then there is surely something seriously wrong.

Amazing that people want to blame a goalkeeper for a team not winning a cup in a shootout. What about the previous limp 120 minutes when they were tactically outmanoeuvred?

    Why so binary?

Surely you can blame a goalkeeper for not saving 1 of 10 penalties and also blame the team for not doing the business in 120 minutes?

Not saving anyone of 10 penalties is an extremely poor record for any keeper at any level.

It doesn’t have to be one or the other, but a collective failing culminating in the keeper not saving at least one penalty.

Surely he failed to save 11? Having said that, the other keeper failed to save 10 (although was much closer to doing so).

Yeah sorry, forgot their keeper taking one was the 11th. Either way, you’d have to be disappointed in your keeper failing to not save at least one of 11 penalties.

    Though Villareal's wasn't much better...

At least Hornets reject Alcacer netted (just...).

No, but he should’ve saved at least two and did save one, so he was at least in with a chance of saving them. De Gea got near one and that was it, nowhere near the rest.

De Gea had the far better pedigree, so you would expect in key moments a player of his standing to deliver.

That said, his record on penalties is abysmal in comparison to Henderson, so you could say that’s a failing on the part of OGS for not being aware of this and not anticipating a European final could go to pens. After all, he subbed on Mata and Telles simply to be be able to take them.

It’s time to bring this back and make this our walk out song in honor of Spanish Maestro that is Xisco.

P.s maybe it is already, but any excuse to post this masterpiece.

P.p.s we win the league with this song.

Howe turns down the Celtic job.

Wonder if he will end up at Palace?

It would make a lot of sense, particularly as he's a free agent, and I'm sure Palace fans would prefer him to Lampard.

I'm half expecting Dyche to decide any day now that enough's enough at Burnley and to throw his hat into the ring.

Celtic told Howe the he could have the job, but they didn't want any of his cheating, diving, ref-conning shenanigans, so he walked away from negotiations.

TBH given that Jason Tindall failed when given the chance to be his own man not surprised they didn’t want him to join up with Howe.

Celtic already had a young assistant who did as he was told in John Kennedy .

Hope he ends up at Palace as it could end in disaster. They’re a defensive side who don’t score many goals, remarkably they only scored 31 the season we went down and we only scored 36, but they had a much better defence. De Boer was an absolute disaster because he tried to implement a style of play completely unsuited to the players at hand and what they’d been used to under BFS. Howe would have the exact same task/problem as he plays attacking football. For that reason I think unfortunately if they have any sense they probably go for Lampard, still no guarantee of success of course but I’d say more so than Howe as at the very least he’ll probably have greater access to some Chelsea players.

They will need about 13 new players as a lot are out of contract and the Zaha replacement in Eze is out for months now.

Hodgson is probably getting out at the right time.

In fairness to Palace ( ) De Boer was also a historic disaster at Inter, who are Inter, and then Atlanta United too - a team he directly took over from Tata Martino, who had coached them into being the most freewheeling attacking team I've ever seen in MLS on the way to finishing as champions in just their second year of existence.

    I think he's just historically sh1t, really.

Bet the ref was pleased Chelsea scored otherwise he would have an a decision to make as Ederson handled the ball outside the area.

The Man City performance has been generally - starting with the team selection.
