I thought Chelsea were hated more (but Man City are hated more than any other club)? At least City seem to have a more committed and genuine fanbase on the whole.

Yeah maybe. Just can't stand Man Citeh. If anything they out-Chelski'd Chelski. Neither deserve success tbf. The Guardiola love-in is also nauseating.

For the neutral, it was a choice between the murderous Russian Oligarch and a repressive, villainous and corrupt Middle Eastern death inducing regime. Good game though.

Good to see City get a taste for defeat in a major final.

Fun to see a team who've been built with 1.7bn of talent since the takeover resorting to long throws into the box.

Chelsea and City both won automatic promotion from the old Division 2 in 1988/89, the year after we first got relegated from the top flight. We came close ourselves, but in the end didn't even make the play-off final - a poor mid-season run, and probably a fixture pile-up due to THREE FA Cup replays against Newcastle and a lot of games played (6o in total, would've been even more had we had a decent run in at least one of the cups that mattered, the Simod Cup - what the hell was that about? - wasn't one of them) scuppered our hopes. We drew 2-2 at Stamford Bridge and beat Man City at home 1-0, the last time we've beaten them in the league (and probably in all competitions for good measure).

Football back then did have its problems, with the lack of safety at some stadia, hooliganism, the ban from Europe, and the shoddy treatment and disrespect of the fans who were just there to enjoy the game often given by the police, but in some ways I miss it, with the terraces and the competition being on a much more level playing field.

Think Tammy Abraham did his role today - wasn't in the squad but fully kitted out and certainly at the front of the celebrations.

Didn't realise he wasn't in the squad.

It's becoming a Chelsea tradition then. Lol.

Looked like the ref was either very emotional or enjoying himself at the end on the pitch.

Pep had criticised him pre match so probably had a little grin about City losing!

Ran the game well and showed authority basically telling Sterling to shut up at some point and picking up a Chelsea player to then book him!

When was the last season Brentford finished above us?

And how many Premier League appearances do their squad total?

But nonetheless very glad to see this, it was only in year 5 of the Prem we weren't tipped to go down by everyone.

A bit before my time, that. I've only stood on a terrace once (Gillingham away) it was great fun.

It's fair to say, before the oligarch money, that neither of them would be considered top 6 sides back then. If anything they were mid-lower top flight teams.

My dad is a Chelsea fan (since the late 1960s) so personally, I'm glad they won yesterday. Got no time for glory-hunter types though.

Chelsea were on the verge of going bust I think ?

Least they had won some cups and in the Champions league occasionally before the money came in with Zola , Gullit and Wise etc.

Man City had just scored single figures goals at home all season under Stuart Pearce!

I can tell you exactly what the Simod Cup was all about. Aside from its sponsorship branding it was called the Full Members’ Cup, referring to ‘full members’ of the football league, i.e. the top two divisions, and was parallel to the Associate Members’ Cup, which was for the clubs in the bottom two divisions and still continues in a slightly different form today. The reason for its creation was as a substitute for English clubs being banned from European competition as a result of hooliganism. In those days clubs didn’t moan about playing too much football because the main source of revenue was still gate receipts and it was felt they needed extra games to fill the gap.

In practice, the Simod Cup was not taken all that seriously, but it’s greatest moment of course came with Reading’s glorious 4-1 defeat of L*t*n in the final of 1988.

Yes it’s sad that’s billionaires can just buy a club and completely distort the normal market conditions. Money means nothing by to them and pushes up the cost of players (both transfer fee and wages) for everyone else whose football income determines their spending.
I hated the fact those 2 clubs made the final.

The fact Man City fans didn’t protest (understandably ) against their owners during the big 6 Super league stuff says it all!

Just grateful the take over happened and basically changed their club for the good.

My dad too is a long-standing fan, so I'm happy for him, and you can't not be pleased for players like Kante. On a more negative note, both teams are run by terrible terrible people who are blatantly sportswashing, if there were to be one of the two teams to win, I suppose it's better the team who's already won it rather than the team who are more desperate than anyone (plus City also get a taste of how we felt after the cup final!)

Genuine question. If we got taken over by a completely immoral, criminal organisation, how many of us would boycott the club?

Luckily for us, we don't have to think about that as a small Hertfordshire team will never exactly be top of the list of teams an oligarch or a sheikh will want to take over!
