It's too big a risk to only sign 1 good striker. We need to bring in 2 if we r serious about trying to stay up.

Sheffield and Burnley are probably the teams who have found it hardest without their fans. I think another major reason for Sheff Utd's relegation was the end of Henderson's loan.

Is there any talk of Eddie Howe for the Palace job? I would have thought that was a possibility, or is he considered nailed on for Celtic?

He's one of the names in The Athletic's 'scouting Crystal Palace's next manager' article.

    Imagine a Howe/Zaha combo

Let’s hope so, eventually got Bournemouth relegated and they were well backed in the transfer market. With their squad issues and the switch from a safe defensive style of play to his more attacking brand it could easily end in tears.

Zaha would be perfect for Howe's "style of play". No retraining necessary.

Palace have fifteen players out of contract at the end of the season. Can see a lot of change there.

Slightly off beat, I wonder if Roy Hodgson could join us as a mentor for The Kid. We have used similar tactics in the past when Bertie Mee and Keith Burkinshaw were brought in as mentors to help out rooky younger managers.

Could be, he's worked for the Pozzos before. He probably just wants to retire & run a nice little B&B in Skegness or something like that though.

Has he? Woy or Ray would bring a wealth of experience into the club but I can't see it happening. But it's worked very well before as mentioned.

Supposedly he'd refused to say he was retiring, which might suggest he may still be looking for a role in football....

Yep, although it was reported that he manage to upset Pozzo senior at the time, so that might rule us out as future employers.

Which is why I thought of suggesting the idea, I forgot about Ray Lewington, he is Woys right hand man isn't he? Maybe he could be interested if Woy isn't.

BBC said on Radio 4 two days ago that he's 74. You'd think the Beeb could get a simple thing like that right!

I don't think they have yet.

Given that the PL resisted calls for 5 subs during the pandemic it is surely unlikely that they'd change it now?

  25. Otter

    Otter Gambling industry insider

It's wrong to do it IMO. If they continue with 5 then when will it become 6 or 7 or even 11? 3 is plenty, the more subs it only serves the interests of the bigger clubs who could easily field two high quality teams from their squads. If they're tired, then that's their problem, it's what the get paid (very well) for, they don't have to qualify for Europe.

  26. Carpster

Well the so called smaller sides voted against it, I believe it will benefit every club to increase it, gives the squad players more opportunities especially having the Euros this Summer. I suppose they may get a vote again who knows.

  27. a19tgg

    a19tgg First Team

It will only benefit the big clubs. We don’t have enough depth to makes five changes and a still be effective. The big clubs repeatedly complained and then didn’t even make 3 subs in a lot of games anyway. The only reason they wanted 5 subs is for when they’re 3-0 up against the rank and file so they can bring on 5 subs and rest their key players for the more difficult games.

Clearly once a big club like Watford get to the voting table in July the balance will tip in favour of the behemoths. And rightly so.

Actually not surprised by that. He'd reached the end of the road there I think. Sometimes there's a point where it suits both sides to move on and I think that's now for Nuno and Wolves.

That’s at least two clubs potentially destabilised for next season now which is great news.

  32. Tricky Dicky

Not that surprised to be honest. He'd done a very good job but it's all gone a bit stale. Best for both parties to move on but they will need to be smart in the next appointment. Get it wrong and they could be in trouble. Form now isn't great and if they start next season poorly then.......

I wondered if he was going to Spurs but sounds more like a career break and as UEA says a case of all good things coming to an end.
