Seems Kante is off to Chelsea. Huge loss for Leicester IMO. Think he was a huge reason they were able to play 442.

    Boro closing in on Negredo.

Apparently, they are giving him 100k a week salary. Madness.

Screams of QPR to me. I said this on twitter and got a lot of abuse from Boro fans who must have searched out my tweet. This one guy wouldn't let it rest and he was the most optimistic/deluded? fan i've ever spoken to.

'Our recruitment has been measured and clinical. High potential, low risk.' & 'we are supremely well drilled, CL winner in charge, statswise best defence in England which has just been strengthened' were his thoughts.

When i said I thought they'd probably stay up, but fail to score many goals he said this - 'Fischer, Ramirez, Adomah, Downing, Negredo and Jordan Rhodes should be enough goals there to keep folk entertained...'

Also, not a transfer but Moses Odubajo has been injured and out for 6 months. Don't watch a lot of Hull, but he's one of their better players I think, big loss.

What is "High potential/low risk" about signing Negredo and Valdes!?? I had the same thoughts as you - reminded me of when Hughes signed loads of old high wage players at QPR. I think they may well stay up compared to Hull/Burnley, but it could easily go wrong.

I feel the same way as you:

Fischer scored 1 in 4 for Ajax (mostly from the wing). Obviously the PL is a massive setup from the Eredivisie. He won't get past 5 goals this season.
    Adomah - 1 in 6. Same story.
Downing scored 3 in 40 for Boro last season, aging - a championship player these days.
Negredo - Was prolific for Sevilla, then 1 in 3 for a fantastic City side, before a loan to Valencia where he scored 1 in 6, signed permanently then scored 1 in 5 last season.
Rhodes - Decent rate of returns in the championship, but untested at the highest level.

    I wouldn't call £100k a week "low risk" personally.

I would be very surprised if we dont take 6 points off them next season.
Also I bet there glad the £30 away ticket has come in, cant imagine many of them could afford premier league prices and travel being from such a poor area.

every fan is deluded when they get promoted.....either they think they will easily stay up (read ever the optimist) or they will get relegated with the lowest ever points total (read glass isn't even half full)

That's half the fun about being promoted....I say let them have their optimism. I quite like Steve Gibson and I wish them well (not at the expense of...etc)

I like them too. My grandad is from there and supports them, but I find their optimism staggering. I thought we would stay up lat year but I didn't expect it to be comfortable or pretty. They all were saying they wouldn't be surprised with a 10th place finish!

One thing is for sure - Boro seem to be make a lot more strides than the other promoted teams. As far as I can see Hull are all over the shop and have signed nobody and Burnley's only significant signing is that Gudmundsson bloke from Charlton.

Would take a brave man to bet against those two being bottom (admittedly that view is only based on transfer activity so far).

Hull have 14 outfield players, and their owner is desperate to sell. They have all the makings of this years Villa.

Burnley and Hull will be going down. I'm absolutely certain of that. The other spot could be anybody tbh.

Agreed - I'm really struggling to identify the 3rd likely candidate. Makes me worried!

I think Swansea, us, Boro, Palace, Muff, Sunderland, West Brom and maybe even Southampton will be down there. I think atm Sunderland the most likely candidates for the 3rd spot given they might be about to lose their manager and haven't signed anyone since last year.

From most likely to least likely taking 3rd spot from that list, assuming 1st and 2nd filled:

    Sunderland <-- Most likely
    Boro
    West Brom
    Muff
    Watford
    Swansea
    Southampton <-- Least Likely

We're definitely going to finish Lower Mid (11th-15th) but I'd put Sunderland most likely due to potential Manager departure and lack of signings. Boro go next as they have strengthened the most out of the promoted sides, but without clear goal scorers will struggle. West Brom go next as they are always in it; negative style of play, if effective at times. Us and Muff are pretty much equal so there's that. Swansea look galvanised with their head coach and Southampton have a setup used to massive change.

Can't argue with your top two and bottom choices, but I'm a bit surprised you consider WBA as being more likely to go down than Muff and Swansea. Pulis's sides have never got relegated and people forget just how small Bournemouth and Swansea are for the Premier League (especially the former) - there's only so long a side can go punching their weight for, and other sides in the bottom half have made signings. I'd also include Palace as being a more likely contender for the third relegation spot than WBA.

Agreed that Hull and Burnley look like sitting ducks.

With regards to our chances, it really depends on whether or not we were genuinely sussed out last season, or whether it was QSF losing the plot and the dressing room, as mentioned in a few reports.

A new coach now, a few new players and a different system could yet again make us a bit of an unknown quantity, so again I'm optimistic of a decent season.

I think we will end up about 12th and like last season never really have to worry about looking over our shoulder.

Will be interesting to see how Boro get on, personally I think they'll do ok and survive.

Sunderland under Allardyce would stay up, but if he becomes England boss I think they'll struggle.

    Swansea could be anything!

Southampton will struggle this season, there is only so far you can go year-on-year by selling best players. I think we will beat them on the opening day too!

WBA under Pullis will bore teams into submission (a bit like us last season at times) and will be in a battle for midtable obscurity.

Bournemouth have signed some good young players but again I don't think they've got a genuine match winner in their side. Perhaps Wilson if he stays fit but he was injured for 80% of last season so don't really know how good he is at this level. Their defence would worry me if I supported them. They'll be in a battle.

Palace will be down there too. Not convinced by Pardew at all. Townsend is a good signing however. Think they'll stay up but will struggle.

Leicester have lost Kante and will potentially lose Mahrez too. If that happens they'll be no better than midtable IMO. They won't be in a relegation fight but don't think they'll be much higher than us either.

Bottom 3: Hull, Burnley & Sunderland (only if Allardyce isn't there).

I'm confident we will do ok, we've got the fire power. Big season for Vydra if he stays, him and Deeney upfront in a 3-5-2 is when we've seen him at his best previously and he's looked every inch a Premier League player! Ighalo if he can re-discover his confidence under Mazzarri is clearly a danger to sides judging on first half of last season. Success brings genuine threat in terms of pace, something we were crying out for last season! Berghuis looked a good player last few games of season and so far this summer, feels like a NEW signing and will make us more of a force up top.

In midfield Doucoure, Capoue, Suarez, Abdi, Behrami & Watson has good depth but I do think we miss a genuine goal scorer at this level from centre of midfield. Hopefully we look to sign someone to change that. Who knows, Capoue may play further up the pitch? Looks to be the way so far this pre-season. Doucoure is a bit of an unknown.

Worried about our wing backs. Not convinced by Holebas's attitude, think he's a very good player but hopefully he wants to knuckle down now. Nyom was awful second half of the season. Zuniga may be the answer but don't know enough about him. Same with this fella from Marseille expected to sign today. Anya is genuine championship quality at best. Janmaat would be my idea of a good wing back, but don't think we will go for him now. Feels to me that we've missed out on our top targets for these positions and had to rely on plan C/D.

Centre back comes down to how players like Cathcart, Britos and Prodl adapt to playing in a three. Kabasele sounds a good player and looking forward to seeing him. Think we may need another quality defender in?

Gomes has signed a new deal, not convinced by any of our other keepers! Think we need to offload Arla & Pants and sign a couple of home grown keepers to free up a couple more places in squad for foreign talent!

Can't see Southampton being anywhere near the relegation battle, but wouldn't surprise me (like with West Ham) if they don't do anywhere near as well as last season. Still, with the progress they've made over the last few seasons, Champions League looks more likely than Championship.

Yeah - also can't see Saints in any trouble at all. Think Everton will do well this time around as well. The league has a top half/bottom half feeling about it now. Used to be the Big 6, but now you can feel pretty confident that West Ham, Leicester, Saints and Everton will all get 50+ points leaving the rest of us to fight it out.

Daniel Bentley would be a better option than these two.

  23. Us go down? Not a snow ball in hells chance of that happening. Comfortably mid table

Hull and Burnley will be 2 of the 3, Hull because they look to be in all sorts of ownership problems and Burnley because they are buying players from Charlton

The 3rd spot is between Boro, West Brom and Sunderland

Feels like Hull are just going to take the premier league cash and run. And Burnley to a lesser extent. I guess the yoyo strategy is fair enough with the current TV deal. Has to be good news for us though.

Maybe DELIBERATELY being a yoyo club is more lucrative than actually trying to stay up. Every 2 years you get Prem money but you don't need to spend any of it on expensive talent.

Just read a Hull fan say they have 13 fit outfield players but refusing to buy anyone. The owner wants them to build a squad on loans and free transfers, which is why Bruce resigned. Should have just let Sheffield up instead!
