Welbeck and Joao Pedro were both in a different ******* league to Deeney and yet he started every game forcing Welbeck to the bench or onto the left wing and JP into the U23s.

Deeney has been the worst striker in the PL for most of the last 5 years and we seem to have adopted a strategy of actively recruiting strikers worse than him.

    He runs the club.

Well Welbeck was good but injured most of the time.

Pedro is good but raw and more of a wide striker .

Success and Gray comes to mind .

That's the thing, there really isn't even any "we haven't had any other choice" excuse. Welbeck should have been playing ahead of Deeney whenever fit the season we went down. A vastly superior, younger, more mobile striker and goal threat. We also had Pedro from January.

Now we have King, Pedro, Dennis, Cucho and Fletcher to pick instead of him. Any single one of them will almost certainly do a better job and score more goals from open play, but we'll still persist with the immobile, non-goalscoring slug and base our style around him to the detriment of the success of our team and younger, better players because we are Deeney FC.

Deeney was injured to the point where he could barely move and was still playing week in, week out. It was an absolute joke.

    Yes fair point.

That was down to Pearson unfortunately who didn’t trust Pedro I guess .

Welbeck was fit before lockdown started and hence was a fit as anybody when the season restarted. Unfortunately Pearson didn’t fancy him over a Deeney, I think if Deeney was benched for Welbeck then we stay up. Unfortunately he fell into the same trap as everyone else, Deeney has to start, irrespective of the many glaringly obvious reasons why he shouldn’t that are staring you right in the face and repeatedly hitting you over the head.

I've said it for a long time, I truly believe he's got some ridiculous clauses in his contract.

He signed his massive new deal on the back of us rejecting a bid from the then Premier League Champions and a team about to play Champions League football.

I can only imagine what his demands were to sign a new deal after that.

Maybe the club are considering making TD9 into TD10 and play him in midfield. Everyone would be happy with that right?

Don’t forget he’s good at defending corners as well, so we could always repurpose him as a CB too.

I've heard we are moving to a back 6 when QSF is back, so there's room for them both.

Maybe we should just give him a free role so he can go anywhere he likes on the pitch? Except the opposition's penalty area of course.

I think we're relying on the AFCON being cancelled, just like our survival strategy in our relegation season.

I hope we have a recall.

The AFCON poses a very real potential threat to Troy's family, and until the research is there and we know more it frankly shouldn't be going ahead.

TBF He did actually have COIVD and was in hospital but yes we did make rather a fuss over that - then we had 3 of our own players being the ones to break the guidelines!

What surprises me is if he has the ability to play in the Premier League, that no Bundesliga club were interested in signing him before we did.

If he does well at Forest than we get an improved player. If he doesn’t then what? If he comes back everyone will be saying he’s useless and not good enough for what either scenario we will be in - another Premier League campaign, or a championship promotion push.

Ultimately he was free, so was bought for Gino’s human loan trafficking ring. He was never meant to improve the team and there was never any thought given regarding his career and how to progress it, he’s essentially just a buy to let property for Gino.

Schalke wanted him in January. They were rock bottom I admit, but they were still in the Bundesliga!

But he chose us because he wanted to play in the PL.

I think Zn is a more exciting player than Gosling, but Gosling is a better player. Gosling will not set the Premier L alight but he will not have disaster-moments like Zn. Zn's strengths were not really played to because he was played out of position, but roasting full-backs in the the Norwegian League is one thing, doing this in the Prem is a different proposition. His thinking/reading of the game at Championship level just wasn't quick enough and he was prone to wasting opportunities with poor-quality balls.
I wish him luck and he might learn to improve his game at forest*, but I imagine he is on a lot more money than he was at Bodo Glimt, so we have not exactly destroyed his career.
    * Houghton is an extremely defensive manager - I wonder if Zn will be used as the 'out player' - waiting near the halfway line to receive the clearances and play on the break; or used like a certain B. Clough used Robertson at Forest: as his 'sponge' - to hold the ball while the others come puffing upfield to join in the attack.

Horrible decision by Watford! I have seen Philip play at over 40 games at Bodo Glimt and I was praying that my other club AZ Alkmaar (who plays in the Netherlands & Europa League) would sign him some time ago, because he is excellent in attack. Philip is the type of player who let other players around him excell at their game. Instead of 1 good year at Bodo Glimt, he had 3 great years there. When he started at Watford he had just played 1 full season without a long vacation. Then he gets to play in a different position en still had a decent performance. He played some really good games, and helped Watford get promoted. But some fans here have a really short memory. And now he has to play with a low ranked club in the Championship, where he cant show his full potential (again). He would have been far better of playing attacking Football at AZ in the Europa league then this kick and rush in England. Also disspapointed for him because he is a great guy and a great footballer.

Either way if he couldn’t get a game in his natural position in the Championship he certainly wasn’t going to in the Premier league.

False equivalence. We gave them our two biggest assets apart from Sarr. They gave us fringe players and loanees that weren't anywhere near their team.

I had no issue with Zeegelaar and Sema going that way. Surprised even that sema came back, but funneling them the fees for the likes of Success, Peneranda and Pussetto is simply them using us as a cash cow, when we simply cannot afford to be one.

I'm quite surprised at the reaction to this.

Probably not going to get much game time for us this season and didn't overly impress last season.

Full season of Championship football under his belt (hopefully in the right position), before our likely return, makes sense to me.
