What’s the issue with holding it at Wembley? city generally play 2/3 games at Wembley per season often against London opposition. It’s obviously nearer to Chelsea, but is that so much of a disadvantage to a club who play there a few times every season anyway? Why didn’t they move their FA cup semi to Birmingham if it was an issue?

I've realised that since the ESL emerged I haven't watched any top-flight football at all. I seem to have lost interest in it. No idea if I'll summon up the enthusiasm to watch the two European finals or not.

I shall of course be avidly watching the Big 6 on TV next season and cheering them on against the other also-rans, though.

There is already a game scheduled for the date of the final at Wembley.

I hope neither Man City or Chelsea fans are asking for it to be at Wembley on the currently planned date. It would be very hypocritical if they complained about the ESL but them told the EFL to **** off because they wanted to use the stadium.

If it has to be in London then there's no reason why they couldn't use Arsenal's ground, but from a practical point of view it should be Villa Park.

It's only the Championship play off final. Tiny match. Probably could be played at one of the teams' training grounds?

If we're talking about money - and when we're talking Champs' League we always are - winning the EFL playoff nets clubs abut ten times more than winning the Champs' League.

Of course Champs' League winners already have loads more dosh than playoff winners and always will (if you ignore the massive debts that some of the top clubs have).

Ok, I didn’t realise that so that is more than fair enough. I’d just seen or heard it said that holding it at Wembley would be an advantage to Chelsea, which makes no sense to me given the regularity City play there.

Big protests at Old Trafford tonight. Fair play to those fans for turning out, as it’s not like any of them live nearby.

Can anyone explain what today’s news basically means? Seems the remaining three teams have basically gotten off scot free?

    Looks like it.

Barca, Madrid and Juve not giving up.

I mean if they want to go and play each other every week then so be it.

I wonder if the other 9 teams are still involved. You wouldn’t put it past them I don’t think.

Well if they do Serie A have already stated they will boot Juventus out of the league. And fingers crossed they would do the same in Spain so those two bores can globe trot the world peddling their wares with Messi dressed up as a joker.

It just shows that incorporating Real Madrid’s ESL in Madrid is paying dividends.

Read a post on social media from a villa fan moaning about citeh trying to buy Grealish. Saying only 6 month ago these giants nearly wrecked our competition now their bidding 100m for our player. They should have a transfer ban we’ve seemed to forget very quickly what happened.

I think he’s got a very fair point and even though Brighton are laughing all the way to the bank with 50m for white, they should be in more uproar.

So UEFA lacking the cojones now. All this does is embolden these clubs to carry on as before. The colluding parties and this trio have got away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist when they should have been hauled over the coals, fined heavily, had points deducted and has transfer activity suspended. Pitiful to see UEFA acting so cravenly.

I suspect the clubs had better lawyers and could work their way out of any punishment.

They've halted them because a Madrid court has ordered then to pending the outcome of a case which is going to the European Court of Justice. Perez lost the battle last year but the more I read, the more I think he's going to win the war in the next couple of years and get his ESL.

If fans create a fuss again and footballing bodies refuse him then it will be fun to see his triumvirate of clubs play each other in endless friendlies out in Singapore, Jakarta, New Delhi or wherever the circus decides to go. These clubs are in great debt and should pay the penalty for being so and not gain any advantages from it when other clubs that are very well run like Villareal for instance then lose out.

I expect the Barcelona fan base declined a great deal as well when Messi departed and his fan club upped sticks to Petrodollars St.Germain.

Xisco can have no excuses if we fail to beat City this season now PSG have shown him how to do it. All he has to do is get our front 3 playing like Messi, Neymar & Mbappe, and bob's your uncle.

Reformed version of this is back on again.

I'm not for the super league but I do now think that an NFL-esque draft system across Europe would make things better for almost all types of fans in the long run.

May be good but never going to happen, the current "top" teams do not want anything to level the playing field.

Rather than the draft change the loan system to a limit on the club loaning out not clubs taking players on loan. Make it so you cannot loan players to the same league a team plays in, and can only loan one player into a specific league each season.

I just don’t see how that could work, without the conveyer belt of a college system where all the players come from every year. The colleges have no link to the main teams so it works perfectly, there is just no way to standardise and showcase all the youth talent across Europe in a similar way, not that I can see anyway. You’d need an annual standardised competition for a specific age range across the whole of Europe. Where would the cut off be anyway, top leagues get the pick of academies below the top leagues? So those teams are guaranteed to lose all their best players every year to top tier teams? How would you make it fair like the draft? 17th in the PL gets first pick of any team in Europe’s academy? You couldn’t have a scenario where a PL team could take a player from a serie A academy could you?

The NFL also stops for 6 months while the college season happens, so teams can concentrate resources on looking at who they want to draft.

I’m all for the salary cap and player franchising aspect to be brought across though, and that could work very well.

OK just so I'm clear before I get booed, my case isn't that it would be perfect but I think there would be some benefits from it and obviously I know it's not going to happen.

You would take the European super league teams. Probably the top 40-ish teams from around Europe to make the equivalent of the NFL. They only play each other.

They draft players from across Europes domestic leagues (the equivalent of college teams.) Players have to play at domestic level until they are a certain age, let's say 21/22?

But what’s in it for the teams not in the ESL? They have to develop the players, but get next to no benefit from them?

It works with the NFL because the players come from the college system, the whole point of the colleges is to generate the players for the NFL. The system works perfectly because you have kids leaving college ready to join one single league.

I’m not saying it couldn’t work, but it would take a massive overhaul of how football works for it to be viable.

Ok I'm just dreaming now but here are some potential benefits.

The benefit for clubs in the domestic league would be that they get to work with and keep any talent they find from young up to 22.

With the right manager and talent, anyone could actually win something.

The emphasis would be talent and skill rather than financial might.

The competition should be fairer than it is now.

Better competition would make a better spectacle and actually drive innovation within the game imo.

They wouldn't have to invest capital in players or this would be dramatically reduced.

    There would be wage caps.

They would keep all proceeds from the experience they offer fans as a club. Incentives to improve the experience for fans on matchday.

No real threat of financial oblivion unless you're an idiot.

Any Tv money could be distributed throughout the league fairly.

Even if you had a Super League of 40 teams the very biggest would never sanction rules to create a level playing field. It's just not their mindset. The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and Man Utd will always want to have an advantage over Sevilla, Dortmund, Marseilles and Spurs. They don't subscribe to the collective benefits of a true 'league' in the way that the Americans do.

They can take it and shove it up their collective orifices. Their greed will never stop. Not until they have consumed the planet and everything on it. They'll end up eating each other hopefully.

Are you suggesting that they need to gain an administrative advantage? I think the first list of your teams have the advantage in the game as it is.

I’ve written in the past about how clubs became ‘big’ in the early history of the game. After a while the biggest clubs were situated in the biggest cities and had the bigger stadiums. This gave them a financial advantage through gate receipts, but it was a relatively small advantage because receipts were shared with the away team. The point I was making here was that the super clubs I listed would not accept an equal division of income, through TV contracts or whatever, even with the second level clubs that might be competing with them in a Super League.

I still don't understand why we just didn't wave them goodbye.

Oh yes those in charge of football want the glory and money, they don't care about football in general of the supporters who attend games.

Amazing story of Union Saint Gilloise. One of the top clubs in Belgium many many years ago who have had famine over feast season after season. This is a great little video channel as well. Currently the club needs just two points from the remaining three fixtures to claim the Jupiler League title.

Owned by Brighton’s extremely wealthy owner. Hardly a fairytale.
