He gets the requisite 45 mins like any other signing. No special allowances for the fact that he was 20 or so, and from Brazil, at the end of a full season. That would be a favouritism.
Where do you seen him featuring? And what shape do you think VI will play? Was very much 3-5-2 for Barnsley/WBA but played with a back 4 at Besiktas
I might be wrong here but I thought it was 3-4-3 he primarily used (at LASK, Barnsley and WBA anyway)? I have nothing to back this up other than a hunch but I reckon he'll play a 3-4-3 with Martins used as one of the wingers.
If we are to sign Cho - you'd think a sort of 3-4-1-2 would be the best fit for the squad (bar Martins) with Cho & Healy up front and Asprilla or Ince in the 10 role. Could also work as a 3-4-3 defensively with one drifting wide in the press, but if we do play 3-4-3 with one striker and two wingers, then I guess Cho & Healey would be fighting for the same spot.
This was the line up Barnsley used in their playoff semi final which I think is pretty representative (they had another CB who rotated with Sibbick through the season). I’m less familiar with WBA/LASK I think that’s one option. But I also think we might be better suited to a back 4 with a midfield diamond, especially given our midfielders. Something like this: GK Ferreira/Andrews Porteous New Styles DM Kone Louza Asprilla/Ince Healey Big 9 (Cho?) That would enable a lot of energy/pressing from the midfield four.
You mean Wilder actually had a....system? Obviously apart from slagging off the players, the Board, previous coaches/managers and, on rare occasions, even himself?
Wilder had a system that would have guaranteed win after win after win, but apparently the players just ignored his wise words and did their own thing, completely unscripted, annoyingly costing us loads of points. He told us this himself, so it must be true.
Apologies, I was wholly unaware. That puts a very fresh perspective on things. I'm big enough to admit that Wilder obviously had a compelling argument. I'm in!
Ironic that his style was defined as "total control" when he apparently couldn't even control his own squad.
I'm sure he can come good, he is only 20 and coming from another continent after all, but in a strange way it's a measure of how **** the environment is at the club that we are being so understanding of someone who contributed little last season
Played well at the start but never looked like he knew what he was doing! Then completely disappeared when Wilder came in
Our whole team disappeared as a functioning unit as soon as the World Cup ended. Ironic how we went into the break on fairly good form PPG wise then totally fell to bits after it. Wilder was just work experience and the team were just taking the piss each week. Shows how low we fell last season.
I liked Martins, far from the finished article but he's got something about him and is progressive with the ball.
As long as he's here through choice, rather than being press-ganged into it, then he's not the worst signing. Low expectation might help and hopefully this year less U20 call ups to disrupt his time with us.
Before he even joined us last year I remember him being known for his ability to just keep running and tracking back. Definitely something VI can work with
I wasn't overly wowed with him last season, but at the same time did think there's definitely something there to work with. Hopefully a longer stay in the UK and a full pre-season will help him.
Surprised he has come back, saw nothing from him last season that made him look like a half decent option. Interested to see if VI can get him playing.
He did a lot of good in his 45 min debut v Blackpool but never hit the same height again last Season. We need to see more of this player than the one who looked bewildered.
When he played he at least tried to make things happen. Always looked to play the ball forwards/run forwards with it which is more than can be said for some of our players Am looking forward to seeing what he can do with a full pre season and a more settled outlook
Pleased with this, has had 6 months to acclimatise and grow like JP. I think he can be a force for us this season if used correctly.
