If VI starts Louza against Norwich on Tuesday, then I will seriously begin to question his team selections. He did nothing yesterday, just plodded about and got booked. Waste of a squad space. Kone' came on and did more than he did all game (even if he was partly at fault for their first goal), he was more up for the game despite us being pinned back in our own half as expected. This is a player he is very talented and we have seen in the past how good he can be, but for whatever reason he turns up and zones out for 45mins before being rightfully subbed. As an aside, I thought VI's subs were a bit late yesterday. However swapping out Raj for Bayo was a bit of a waste considering we could barely get past the halfway line.
Going by the ITV highlights looks like Bachmann made a few saves before the goals and lack of discipline. Standard for him then . Rajovic mis kicked in front of goal
One of our strikers missed us a golden chance to put us ahead, we were ill-disciplined, the manager wasn’t very proactive with his subs, Louza disappointed again, Healey never let the bench and nobody seems that bothered or annoyed with another loss. Yup just a normal day at the office these days.
Very reminiscent of the wry comment a tour guide told me at one of the 'theatres' below the Acropolis on whether they held any 'authentic' performances there: "...having two actors, on stilts wearing mask like megaphones bellowing 15 min passages of, unintelligible, classical Greek at the audience wasn't exactly the crowd-pleaser that we had imagined..."
When it was 0-0 and they kept wasting chances I thought we might nick a famous 1-0 win, then Vardy came on... Overall not too fussed with the defeat, Leicester, along with Leeds and Southampton should be in a different class to the rest of the division. Why was Bachmann given a second yellow, did he back chat the ref or something?
Here in Santa Marta, Matanzas province, I can tell you that following yesterday's match, most are of the opinion that Bachmann is a shít eating degenerate.
Brilliant. Thought our fans were well behaved yesterday compared to some of the away days last year. Just wish we would drop the Luton Get Battered song, rather tinpot.
It might be worth you suggesting to the local population that they get a sense of perspective and perhaps focus on how they plan to get their economy back to pre pandemic levels and improve food production, instead of voicing odious opinions about our Dan.
Cheers, missed the first one, might have happened when I was scrambling around looking for a decent stream.
I think it was because he decided to run half the length of the pitch to "put his point across" rather than pass the message on to a closer out field player. Obviously what he said was not to the referee's liking. I think Livermore should be captain during games, he's experienced enough to know when to keep a cool head, and regardless of the reason he was subbed yesterday, whatever plan we did have fell to bits after he went off. Also, Vardy is dirty cheating little rat.
Thought Andrews played well yesterday. A big aim for this season should be to have 1 or 2 more academy players break into the first team.
We lost. Who cares. As long as we get another 29 points this season then we can throw this one in the memory bin.
If it was the Iliad or the Odyssey it would go something like this; ' Homeric epithet, ships, shouting, blood,Olympus, winged words, death, destruction, god, mortals, Homeric epithet, limbs, decapitation, Achilles sulking, Menelaus shouting, Odysseus being cunning, decay, blood, ships, winged words, epithet'.. continued page 94. Similar to a visit to the Kennel.
As Homeric epithets, may I suggest: Line-hugging Bachmann Kamikaze-pressing Porteous One-footed Kayembe Idly-ambling Louza
I wouldn't worry too much, if we get smashed by Norwich and put in a half-arsed performance the forks and torches will be out again for VI.
Missed it, went to London to watch Bob Vylan , first legue game I haven’t watched this season , was surprised to hear we only lost by 2, was a bit bemused to see Bachman had been sent off don’t know what the two yellow cards were for, but from above sounds like the first was giving the ref grief and the second bringing down Vardy for the penalty ? Think Bachman needs to chill out a bit seems to be picking up a lot of cards did Bachman get sent off before the penalty ? If so did we sub a goalkeeper or did one of the outfield players go in goal ?
I think the general thing is, dissent can be by word or action. Rightly or wrongly, football doesn't follow rugby's lead in the special right of the captain to "question the ref". The captain is more there as a way for the referee, and manager, to talk to the players on the pitch. If a captain is told "next player to stand in front of a free kick gets booked", the onus is on the captain to pass that message on to his team and manage it. Goalkeepers as captains don't have the positioning on the pitch for that to be a feasible possibility. So I think the trouble with Bachmann is he gets worked up about something (rightly or wrongly) and considers it his duty to represent us to the referee. Referees then see this running up to them as dissent by action - similar to when a striker is booked for running from halfway to argue a penalty they couldn't possibly have seen. So Bachmann isn't helped by the current clampdown on dissent or his position on the pitch. I don't dislike Bachmann, but I think he (and a lot of people in football) need to learn to control their emotions (whatever the origin) more.
Porteous went in goal. Our 4th goalkeeper this year. Bachmann and Hamer two of the others - who's the missing man?
I thought he was left high and dry by our defence at the time. I will caveat this with the fact I was inebriated at the time.
He was, but we were losing with 2 minutes left of extra time to play. We were going to lose the game anyway so he might as well have let Vardy see if he could finish rather than get sent off and miss the next match.
I'm not the biggest fan of Bachmann by any means, but I don't think he could really win with his intent on Saturday. I can't help but think that had he just let Vardy round him and score, we would have accused him of giving up and not providing any opportunity whatsoever of a last minute equaliser, however slim that chance would have been with a collection at Vardy's feet/a missed penalty and then an immediate attack. He was left one-on-one by Kayembe losing his man, and took a chance and failed. As a 'keeper he has to try to protect his goal first and worry about the state of the match afterwards. I'm not sure his decision to challenge deserves the criticism it is receiving.
Absolutely this. Is he really going to weigh up in a split second the fact that he might get a second booking, will miss the next game etc? Criticism valid for nature of first booking but everything after that is just noise.
To be fair, I usually don't criticise Bachmann. I quite like parts of his game. But he put himself in a position where he was on a yellow card. It's his decision to rush out of his goal to remonstrate with the official that put him in that position in the first place. He doesn't have the temperament to be captain. That's his second red card in just over 20 matches he's played. He doesn't seem to be learning his lesson. We all know what Vardy does in that instance. He pushes the ball beyond the keeper then leaves a leg and dives. He does it so quickly that refs buy it every time. Over the years, him and Andrew Johnson (Palace) are the best I've ever seen at conning an official for a cheap penalty. If Bachmann doesn't get the first booking, which was entirely of his own making, then it's just a yellow card and he doesn't get sent off. This is the main problem. Having said that, the ref ignored a blatant second yellow card for Vardy. So if the ref had done his job and not bottled it for reputation, Vardy wouldn't have even been on the pitch. Maybe we could have nicked a point against 10-men?? Who knows.....but we must control the controllable. Don't pick up cheap, needless bookings.
I noted that Leicester played Chevaliers de Sangraal by Hans Zimmer as part of their close to kick off music. Superb. One of his best. Though not as superb as *checks notes* ‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’ by Technocat (1996) and ‘Give It Up’ by The Good Men (1993). Two songs that have not been played by anyone (who is not a Watford fan) outside of Vicarage Road this century.
