https://twitter.com/pitaco_tricolor/status/1658178413985767424 "After awakening the interest of Barcelona and Porto , striker Kauã Elias is now being watched by the English Brighton and Watford The 17-year-old striker has a fine valued at 280 million reais and has already excelled in the youth teams" 17 year old striker at Fluminense (last few we've had from Fluminense haven't been bad...). Joint top scorer at the recent Sudamericano U17 tournament with 5 goals in 7 games. From that rough translation above I think they value him at 280 million Brazilian reals which if my conversion is correct is £45m so not sure how viable a deal for us is, especially considering we're supposedly up against Brighton, Porto and Barcelona... His goals from the tournament.
£45m!? Our recent successes from Brazil keep us in this race, but I think maximum spending would be closer to £5-6m.
I have a feeling there's a mistake somewhere, like the rumoured fee being wrong (28 million reals would be 4.5m which would likely be more realistic) or something about the translation being wrong, as not a chance we're in for a player valued at 45m, nor are we in the position to pay £45m for a player yet to make a first team club appearance.
According to Wikipedia (not exactly the most reliable source of course but…) the R$280m is the release clause in his contract. Don’t think that would be the actual fee paid from any of the clubs listed- Barcelona are skint, Porto wouldn’t pay that, and Brighton are unlikely to spend anywhere near that (for an unproven talent). Only way we could compete with those clubs is if it’s structured like the Pedro deal- low initial fee that could rise to £10m+ with clauses
There is no chance we get him. None. He'll be off to one of the ESL mob in no short order. He was one of the top five players at the Sudamericano so they all know about him and probably did before.
Hey reids, Hey reids, 280 million is the actual fee in reais but as mentioned here, when it comes to actually sell him to any club in Europe, this fee would certainly be reduced. It goes just like it did with Joao Pedro, Richarlisson etc.
Kaua played 5 tournaments last year in Europe with Fluminense U16 and he was the top scorer in all of them. 16 games played 16 goals. They played Arsenal and he scored a hat trick against them and scored against the Saints too. He was off to a flying start with the U17 soon after and just before joining the national team for the South American tournament, he was moved to Fluminense's U20. He was the top scorer for the national team along with a teammate and they have qualified for the World Cup this coming November which will likely be in Morrocos. It would be lovely to see him in Watford colours, just like Richarlisson and Joao Pedro.
Unfortunately we aren't as attractive a destination now as we were when we signed Pedro and Richarlison. He will go to a bigger/better side for a bigger fee.
Well, I would say although not ideal(as one would rather play Premier League football), for a player like him to start his career at a club like Watford would be very attractive but I do agree that maybe a ''bigger'' team with more financial power will probably grab him before then.
Strangely we have a good relationship with them. Can't say that about many clubs at the moment. Looks very good for his age.
He's been like that since a young age. We have videos of him playing great football when a little kid. If he is bound to Watford or not, we will soon find out. It would be amazing though to see him wearing the hornet's colours to kick-start his career in Europe!
He can't even move until the summer 2024 transfer window, who knows what our situation would be at that time?
Hahaha Hahaha He's not my son, he's my nephew. I will tell him about this forum though and I'm sure he will appreciate you as I do. We never know, it could actually happen you know. Trust me, if it does I'll come back to put in a claim for admin access
Might be worth dropping our usual banter of stuff like "Has this **** signed for us yet?" if this really is his uncle! Don't want to miss out based on a joke lost in translation!!!
Watford paid 30 millions for João Pedro and 11.5 for Yes, Mr EB Hornet. ''This'' is really his uncle. You can check my Instagram profile, it has the same username as the one shared here. As for "Has this **** signed for us yet?", I will assume you're being friendly whatever that **** means(although this isn't always a nice word). I thought it would be nice to sign up and show some appreciation for you guys having a forum talking about Kaua and the possibility of joining Watford.
Yes EB Hornet just means that there are a lot of "in" jokes on the forum and sometimes comments shouldn't be taken seriously as they are just an internal joke on the forum. The sentence he used is just one of those examples ! You will see that on any new signing thread ! British humour is very sarcastic and easily misunderstood . Soon someone will suggest that you are Moog as it's a running joke that half the posters on here are all actually the same poster under different names.... Your nephew sounds an amazing prospect. We don't usually get relatives on here..... But if you are Moog - well done - you got us all .
Hey, thank you for clarifying. Perhaps I've got to work a bit more on my English huh?! I Am his uncle and I've provided my Insta accounnd username for anyone to check. You'll see pictures of us such as the one in my profile picture here. I understand relatives don't actually access forums but since I live in London for 18 years now and I appreciate the Hornets(even attending matches) I thought why not. Appreciate your understanding.
Thank you for joining and your insight! He looks like he has the world at his feet. As you note we have done well from our Fluminese connection, and I’d be very happy to have him join (though it looks like he will very much be in demand). I think he’d only be able to move here next year, once he turns 18. Joao signed a contract with us when 16 or 17 but then joined when 18. Though Kaua looks excellent I’d be surprised if we paid the significant upfront fee to get Kaua signed up for 2024.
I like the idea of @Jeffersonelias81 joining the forums of every club under the sun telling them how great his nephew is, I think we all need someone like that in our corners!
It's a pleasure being here. Perhaps Watford would be a great option for him as he could be part of a big comeback to Premier league football and not that much pressure on his shoulder but you're right(although I do hope the Hornets are back to Premier League football before then) , he would only be able to leave when he's 18 in March and provided they've agreed a fee. I like the connection between the clubs so it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up here. Although Barcelona ahve their sights on him, they've already made and offer for another great striker, Vitor Roque and if that deals go through, I don't think at this stage Barcelona would be the better option for Kaua. Who knows, soon I might get to visit Watford more often
There's always a hater... Besides, I never said he's great, it's the other members here that are doing so.
