You seem to be calling for a cull of supporters not behind the Pozzo regime. Do you think that is a healthy attitude? There is probably a place for you in the stewarding roster if of any interest.
As I said previously, as a squad player or a sub to come on and close the game out I would be happy with this. Especially on a free. Low impact.
I’m reliably informed that some very encouraging assurances were given in the chit chat after the fans forum Everything’s under control!!
Obviously I am all for signing players for the manager …. But I also thought the process involved presenting him with better options of the same profile …. I struggle to see how we couldn’t get someone younger and better … but hey, we may be surprised and he turns out to be just what we need for the system
Some impressive mental gymnastics going on from some of the Watford hipsters on Twitter. January - Bilic wanted Livermore which would have been a terrible signing and shows that he had to go. Good job Manga is in charge of transfers and blocked it. June - Livermore signing makes a lot of sense, need some experience in the squad.
The slight difference is that we already had a Livermore type in Choudhury last season, with the sort of budget we're likely to have, we'll do well to get anyone of the calibre of Livermore over the last two years (just got to hope his legs haven't gone!)
I honestly don't get the rationale for this transfer. He's 33 for **** sake, well beyond his prime and the Championship is a young man's game now. Based on our transfer activity so far, we'll do well to finish top-half, let alone playoffs.
Rumours on twitter that we're in for Mowatt as well. If so I'd imagine Louza + Mowatt will be the starting CMs - with Livermore, Kone, Kayembe and maybe Gosling as backups with Styles also a competent player in CM.
I can’t imagine the current Nice manager wanting to sign Livermore! @reids as an aside, well done for still being able to use your Twitter!
Small breakdown on Livermore (for those who’s twitter works) https://twitter.com/watforddata/status/1675482928292265984?s=46&t=RvPpjqECf_iGSuGzl2DI0Q
Deeney was a good leader when he was a good player. When he turned crap he was no longer either a good player or a good leader. Livermore now seems like he's a crap player, in which case I'm not sure how can provide a good example to others.
On a 1 year deal I’d say an ok signing. Was Par Rice at the peak of his career when GT bought him in as captain? no. Now I’m not saying Livermore has the pedigree that Rice had but you may get my point. Several more inspiring signings coming in.
ideally would like a leader who can play every game and impact it, sure he’ll be good in the changing rooms but still need more leaders who can impact play
Having heard the audio, can confirm that French's transcription missed a lot of the subtext and body language, which was very positive.
Quality signing for the new coach, who already knows him. Should get them going this pre season and sort his plans for the first 6 games. But wether he fits in to the next coaches model will be the question or maybe he’s done his coaching badges and is our next coach. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Friend of mine is a Baggie and says exactly this. Good influence in the changing room, but we shouldn't be expecting him to make a significant contribution on the pitch. As a one-year option with a potential pathway to coaching after that I don't think this is a bad move. If he ends up starting every game though we might be in trouble.
I don't get the argument that improving the leadership qualities of the squad just means signing random old players to sit on the bench. If it is just to be a positive influence on the training ground / in the dressing room, add him to the coaching staff. The lack of leadership in the squad has nothing to do with the age profile and everything to do with the character of the players. I like the Mowatt and Styles links, but just can't see the point in signing Livermore. I hope to be proved wrong.
Exactly this. One of the laziest bits of thinking Watford fans are prone to is the "it all went downhill when Troy left as he was our leader". He was garbage for the last few seasons, a very costly millstone round our neck. What we actually need is a squad with fair peppering of spiky, competitive players throughout. Then they can carry the few nice guys when things get tough. What we've been served up most of the last few years is a mix of those nice guys, people collecting pay cheques and petulant losers who got bullied every game but sometimes indulged in some pointless pushing and shoving at 3-1 down in the 88th minute.
Didn't have great defensive stats at Boro this season, but at West Brom they were pretty much around the average mark.
I suspect Ismael sees him as a back up option . Trouble is the bloke will probably end up being first choice and Ismael sacked by October and the next guy won’t want him !
Remember they said at the fans meeting that they provide the manager with a choice of transfer targets for positions he and Ubenga think need filling. Who else was on this list with Livermore and what are their favourite cheeses?
No brainer on a one year deal as long as he’s rarely required to play football We’re missing leaders - Perhaps a 2 year deal for the Churchill statue at Whitehall next?
I agree with most of this as my view is that we don't have enough players that you wouldn't want to fight . Going back a few years we had Holebas and Britos in the back 4 looking for trouble in every game . We seem to be a bit of a soft touch lately .
