FM 2009 Season Update Thread

As promised..........Lewis Young's position screen.

 

Interesting stuff regarding Lewis Young, into 2019 with Portstewart and he never played a league game for Watford and did naff all for Grimsby or Lincoln in two loan spells, Watford released in the summer of 2013, he signed for Dundee on a free and didn't do alot. Drogheda of Ireland paid 6K for him and he did well in two season, Scunthorpe signed him on a free for two seasons and he's now at MK Dons for the 3rd season in league one which is the highest level he's been at.

 

just got to the end of december. my watford squad is playing well, and our good performances come down mainly to our strong rearguard action which has meant we have conceded 21 goals in 25 games. we are not scoring too many at the moment, but are winning games by the odd goal.

december was a fantastic month, as we climbed the table to third, beating league leaders norwich and second placed palace both away from home by 1 goal to nil.

january will see some players leave as i endeavour to lower the wage bill, but with the league balanced the way it is, with the top three all on the same amount of points, i am very hopeful of an automatic promotion spot.

 

StuBoy I think you've been playing around in the editor, two reasons.

1) Every single FM game I or anyone I know of has ever played, he's never made a mark at Watford and fallen into lower league obscurity becoming a nobody.
2) On the Editor, his PA is 110 in the data editor, this is **** poor, and he will not exceed this unless you've changed it. For those who don't know, Steve Kabba has a CA of 110 at the start of the game, so ultimately Lewis Young should never become a lot better than how Kabba is at the start. The sort of attributes you see in your screenshot would mean a PA of -9 or -10 (The highest)

Regarding his position, it is possible he can lose the AML and retrain somewhere else simply by being played in a different position, doesn't happen a lot under AI though.

 

Horrendous accusation there Prentice, I can assure you I haven't. I never ever touch the editor. In fact the only time I did it was in FM08 to create my team I play for in real life. For FM09 I haven't touched it at all, I really don't see the point. I don't know why he's a striker and I am pretty sure he wasn't at the start of the game. I am in the year 2017 so he's had a lot of time to change completely. I think he might have been retrained and has now played as a striker for so long he's forgotten his previous position. Much like how Scholes started at United as a striker and now never plays there at all.

I don't understand the editor in terms of all this CA stuff really as I've never fiddled with it. I am as confused as you as to why he's so good. Hence why I posted this on here. Why on earth would I want to change Lewis Young anyway, what's the point?

 

I do understand the editor, I built it, and it's physically impossible for someone to become that good when their pre-set potential ability is only set at 110!

Anyway, basically, players will have pre-set Current and Potential abilities, they are out of 200 and determine how flexible and how far a players attributes can go, and how high. 200 is obviously the epitome of how good you can be, 100 is average for a second tier side, 170 is average for players at the best level, 180 is average for a world-class player, 140 is average for a top tier player.

Players on the game don't always reach their potential ability, that depends on how you/the computer manage them and how their careers span out, but for a player to go on and become what Lewis Young on yours has, is as I say, impossible. It's the whole idea of a potential system, so random young nobodies don't become the next Pele.

Also I did say the position movement is possible, they can generally lose their bearings with one position and become a natural at another overtime, plus I believe he was a natural striker on 9.0.0.

 

Well goodness knows why he's that good then. I sure as anything haven't touched the editor. I'm having a good enough game without having to do that. It's 2017 and I still haven't managed higher than League One yet.

Is there anyway I can investigate his background now (i.e CA?) even though I'm mid-game? I'm pretty sure I'm using database 9.0.3

 

There may be third party tools, but I don't use any so I'm not sure! If you didn't do anything, then it doesn't matter I suppose.

 

ah well, apart from Lewis nothing else unusual appears to be occuring in my game.

 

Transfer activity in the summer of 2009 window. Starting transfer budget was about 12-14m but after shifting out big wages and having money spare from wage bill i increased the TB to about £17m. Some of the transfer figures aren't right as i paid some of them in monthly installments therefore not costing the full amount.

Also on a sign agreement for 1st January Waldo Ponce CB from Velez looks like a very good player my scout said he will be the best defender in the squad and currently is decent signing for most prem sides.

Quick update on 3rd October 2009 as watford and Jamaica gaffer

After seven games i am sitting in 10th here are my results so far

Arsenal away Lost 1-4
A.Villa home Lost 0-1
West Brom away Won 3-1
Chelsea home won 2-1 rested a lot of players no drogba, lampard, terry, a.cole, bosingwa, v.d.vaart or ballack to name a few. They had a poor defence of Ivanovic, Bertrand,Mancienne and Heitinga.
Fulham away lost 0-1
Everton home draw 2-2
Man Utd home won 3-2


Man Utd match won 3-2

Started the game with a defensive formation of 4-4-1-1 which wasnt working out as at half time i was 1-0 down and i made some bold decisions that paid off. I went back to my main and number one 4-4-2 formation (not the bold decision) and took my three subs. Which were a couple of my main players who weren't performing well- marcus berg, jack cork and don cowie who i subbed for tamas priskin, jozy altidore and ross jenkins.

Eight minutes into the second half priskin scored a great header from the penalty spot that looped over the keeper. Soon after i had a free kick from about 25 yards out craig conway curled the ball lovely into the top right hand corner (i rarely score FK's).

Then there was a quick reply from dimitar berbatov on 62 mins. And then with two minutes to go JOZY ALTIDORE with an absolute screamer from thirty yards out on the turn he sends the ball into the same top corner as the free kick (cue to the celebrations in the bedroom) and we managed to hold on with a bit of time wasting and a couple of offside decisions.

 

I have a QPR game going on at the moment, and have just got promoted after finishing 2nd.

Bit boring first year but now i'm in the Premiership it'll be much more interesting.

im still struggling away trying to get watford into the premiership with my squad made up of free transfers, my greatest acheivement so far remains getting villa into the champions league with nearly an all english squad.

 

I am thinking of a career to do. Not too long ago i completed over two season as watford manager guiding them to safety in the prem second season then kind of got bored of it.

Then i decided i wanted to do a big club so i started one with liverpool but tbh i haven't got in to it after the pre season.

Any suggestions would be appreciated? Maybe a club with a bit of money lower than the prem?

I would do the forest career but i never carry the careers on much i usually do just two or three seasons as i either get bored or cant be bothered to go much further.

 

Nah i think i will go championship again who has a fair bit of money?

In my third season as Watford manager.
Came 9th in my first season and had a board takeover, signed Buazza, Graham and Keith Fahey

Was given 30 mil at the start of the season and a cash injection of 20mil in November, My signing were young players such as Adam Johnson, Krystan Pearce, Eddie Nolan and Balanta. Won the play off final against Reading in my second season, was loosing 3-0 at half time but Jon Harley pulled one back at the start of the second half followed by Danny Graham header and a brace from Priskin, The second was in stoppage time :]]

Was given a transfer 74mil at the start of Prem season and brought many quality player such as Lennon, Roger Johnson, Rodwell, the Egyptian Zidan, Vermalem from ajax, lee cattermole, and some French under-21 player whos already classed as a leading Prem player. Im currently 14th in the prem after about 30 matches

 

First Season as Leeds United gaffer

Ins- Joe Murphy 300k, Frederic Sammaritano 160k (good player), Steven Appiah free, Smertin free, Soley free, Kyle Walker 110k

Total 570k and i have 1.5m (200k from Douglas arriving soon*) left to buy two strikers

Total 1.2m and currently selling jonathan douglas for 200k as he is not needed *

QPR/Reggina Game

This game seems to be turning into an epic. I started my career with QPR, having 12m I had to spend my money wisely. I said I could get promoted and with these signing I did.

It was 17 goals from Cameron Jerome and 19 from Nade that clinched me 2nd place behind Reading who had run away with the league. It was comfortable right up to the last 5 games which I had lost 3 of. And brum had won all 5. This set up the last day which I was 1 point ahead of Brum.

Brum had Charlton and 10mins in I looked at the score updates, they were 3-0up. So I had to win. I was playing Crystal Palace and was losing until the 60th minute. Where luckily Victor Moses hit it into his own net. Still I need a goal from somewhere. In the 77th minute it came. Andrew Driver tapped in from close range. To seal the victory in the 90th minute, Nade scored a 20 yarder. Promotion for QPR. Final League table below.

2nd Season
Still with QPR I had 20m to spend but did make a profit of 15m off transfers as well. As shown below.

I started the season very well, with Marquinhos a gem I picked up from 1 of my scouts. By December I was sitting in 9th position and Marquinhos had scored 15 goals. Although Bullard, Nakamura and Watson were all out for lenghtly times. As I hit the new year, out of nowhere Reggina had approached me. They were sitting bottom and 7 points off safety in Serie A. Hard job, it seems. I'm not sure how but I was given 37m to spend, surely they have a rich owner? Not too sure but this challenge was hard to turn down. Straight away I had a mini clearout, and signed some big-name players for the club. Transfers below. Bare in mind some were madein the summer window before I got there.

As I started half way through the season I didn't have much time to work with my squad so I started very badly. First 5 games I'd only picked up 4 points. Then a suprise victory against Juventus in which I won 3-2 turned the whole season around. The manager before said he could get a top half finish. I completed that job for him after a 9 game unbeaten run, 7 wins and 2draws. I found myself in 11th before the last game of the season. 10th were Palermo who I was playing, and a hat-trick from Mista and 1 goal from both arshavin and galletti meant i'd win 5-2 and finish 10th. Final league table below.

My third season as a manager and 1st full season with Reggina looked promising. Some quality signings and a massive clearout of crap players ment I had chance of clinching a top 6 finish in my opinion. I decided to sign Marquinhos from QPR who had been amazing for me before with QPR, and Simone Vukcevic who for some reason isn't worth more than 15m. I had 38m to spend and used some profit from the players i had got rid of. Transfers below:

In first position after 16 games but I haven't played AC, inter, juventus or roma yet. So i'm not expecting myself to stay there. Here is the current league table. I shall be keeping you update on how this season will finish. Maybe I can win the league but a Champions League spot in my opinion would be a great achievement. As i'm only expected to get a top half finish.

How come on your second screenshot it says 4th in the championship?

 

There are better defenders than that around for starters (fee depends on what year you are in)

Miranda from sao paula (sp.) probably cost around 5m
Nedum Onouha class from man city 2-3m
Dalton from palemeras cheap option probs 2m if he hasnt moved yet
Andriy Rusol cost me 6m in second season is class (IMO best option on this list)

 

Because that was taken when i was qpr. And the season was only into December.

Well i didn't manage them from the first season. I was QPR first then halfway through my 2nd season they approached me and gave me 37m to spend if I joined. So maybe they had a takeover mid-way through the 1st season. Not too sure mate.

 

Ill just have to continue being the mighty Orns

 

Do you use at the start of the game manual picking countries and picking database size?

Mine is on large database size and i pick about 20 leagues so that they are in full depth

 

He's in my game. Large database and Italy and England are the only nations i've chosen.
