The Daybreakers. Probably the most I've enjoyed a film for some time. Excellent.

District 9. Something pretty different I thought and for one the effects were quite convincing.

    Me too on sky.

Not bad. The special effects were spot on especially the aircraft scenes.

Just seen Start Trek, the recent one with that bloke form Heros in it. Not a trekkie really but this was pretty good. Certainly opens the doors for some sequels.

It's an allegory of immigration and the issues it raises.

This is the whole point. More money for the studios. A bit removed from Rodenberry's original idea to bring science and a sense of wonder about the Universe to the masses.

I couldn't stand anything Star Trek before the latest film, but the new one is great.

Just watched Iron Man 2 for the second time, love those films, Robert Downey Jr. is an absolute legend.

Watched 'The Wackness' the other day about a young drug dealers relationship with his psychiatrist and his love for the psychiatrists step daughter. Though it was decent.

Just saw shutter island. Thought it was brilliant. And 12 angry men, which was also very good.

I just saw A fistful of dollars and the good the bad and the ugly.

Gonna watch a few dollars more tonight so i'll reply again once i've seen it.

Loved them so far. Brilliant films, and brilliant music too :)

I sneaked into the backroom to see what my nephew was watching, I was shocked.

So I sat down with him for 30 mins.

I love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the child catcher still scares me.

Why is the lip sync so bad in those films? They were filmed in English and played in English, yet it's completely out of sync.

Seriously? RDJ is a total bell end, surely?

Was very good, I would recommend it. Some parts are cringeworthy like the office, but overall very funny.

I thought they were in a foreign language and translated back.

Or it could be the low tech equipment they used.

Did they have to remake Brighton Rock ? The original is a classic.

Yeh it is bad, but it was only the good the bad and the ugly that was dubbed in english or something. But when you watch it, their lips are saying english so i still don't understand.

    Brilliant films nonetheless.

What did you think of it? Just got back from it this evening and did not exactly enjoy it. It was a choice of that or Paul which the better half wanted to see, I won and felt very guilty as she was bored stiff and both of us struggled to understand what Jeff Bridges was saying (I know it is part of the point in the film but come on!). Definately not this great film what everyone is saying.

Also saw some trailer for Cowboys v Aliens with Daniel Craig. Is that an April's fools or something???

Had a bit of an OSCARS fortnight and watched Kings Speech, Black Swan and The Fighter. Had already seen Social Network, so in a good position to judge.

Verdict = i cant seperate them.

    I just..I don't know what that was.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps - 5/10

It's hard to care for any of the characters in this film. Why are film makers still giving roles to Shia Lebouef

Gangs of New York - 4/10

I think more people died in this film than there were words. That's saying something for a film that took 2 hours 45 minutes of my life.

  34. berkshirehorn

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

my thoughts on both counts. my son leant over in the cinema and said he needed subtitles. i just about kept up. enjoyed it but it's not really oscar material and jeff bridges wasn't exactly stretched in the role. cinematography and art direction were brilliant though and you got a real sense of the time.

as for cowboys and aliens........speechless. bizarre trailer and weirder title. you'd think it was a Zucker s**** but it all seemed quite serious.

    edit.....why on earth can't i say s p o o f ??

On True Grit, interesting...I didn't need subtitles and I am not from 1890's Colorado. Can it be that living in the era of the rise of Country music has given me the tools to understand dialog from the 1890's?

I liked it. The banter was very good and the plot was detailed and relatively true to the John Wayne version, though I can't speak to the original source material.

The directors threw in some very interesting bit characters that didn't hav much influence on the outcome of the plot, the shopkeeper and the man wearing the bear suit, to name a couple.

As for the prior discussion on the crapification of Bond films, I would like Guy Richie to direct one. Yes, they are totally hollywooded out now. But that's not new. I remember thinking that when Moonraker came out. At least they are better Hollywood films now than they used to be. I don't like Craig in them at all.

I watched a documentary called Restrepo the other day. Very good, frustrating a bit, but honest.

PS...Taxi Driver was on last night. What a film.
