The hospital are saying Muamba is showing small signs of improvement and is moving his arms and legs.

From a medical point of view:

It wasn't a "heart attack" as reported in the press (this is more your older person, where the blood vessels, full of atheroma (fat/cholesterol) to the heart muscles block and stop giving enough blood and oxygen to the heart) but a "cardiac arrest." ie: his heart beat became irregular and stopped (arrest)

He will most likely have a congenital (he was born with it) heart problem, more common in tall, male and afro-carribean athletes.
We should start cardiac (heart) scanning our young athletes as this will reduce the rates of this happening, if we can identify this early.
Maybe if we scanned at Harefield as a matter of course this would become a unique selling point for us? Im happy to advise a good cardiologist (heart doctor) to the club.

Secondly this guy is unlikely to play again.

Yeah i know it's quite childish but i found it quite funny. Have a go at me for being childish now?

It clearly wasn't meant to be insensitive only the most heartless of people would do that.

And J.B that was the whole point? The more thick i sounded the more likely it was Sordell would throw a fit.. if i just said 'oh f off' you think he'd bother replying lol?

God, didn't think it'd lead to this haha.

Squibba; it is probably best to hold your hands up and admit you were wrong rather than continuing to desperately dig and make yourself look even more stupid.

Anyway, back on topic, there are reports doing the rounds that Muamba is talking again. Probably best to wait until this is confirmed properly though.

    Exactly JB.
Perhaps it should be noted that if you shoot your mouth off before you know the facts you can run the risk that you will eventually look stupid.
Also if people want to register their support for the guy at this sad time, why not? I felt sorrow for the people shot in France today surely this is one of the emotions that makes us different to "animals" I didnt know them but surely I can sympathsise with the families etc?

    Have to agree with this.

Fantastic news that he has started on the long way to recovery. I agree with Cthulu in regards to him never playing again, purely down to the insurance companies.

The reports I just heard were that he's started breathing again on his own. No mention of talking, but that's still a big step.

Lucky boy, couldn't have collapsed in a better place than a Premiership football field.

i think their was a thread on here which i can't be bothered to look back for, but it was regarding players lifting up/taking off their shirt resulting in a yellow card

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4202642/Prem-stars-seizure-on-pitch.html
with cahill raising his shirt, meaning the sponsors not showing (usually resulting in a yellow card to stamp this out as the company complains) does anybody know if cahill got booked for this? would be quite distasteful

  17. hornetboy1

He did not get booked. Another player did something similar after Gary Speed and did not get booked either. I think referee's can turn a blind eye when it's a very immotive subject. There was a player who's son died recently and he took his shirt off as a tribute to him and didn't get booked. I can't remember who this was though.

No he didn't which I guess is common sense.

Billy Sharp didn't get booked when paying tribute to his son and the Sheffield United striker Ched Evans (also Welsh as you can probably guess!) displayed a message in honour of Gary Speed after his death and wasn't booked (infact he scored twice and showed the vest *twice I believe)

*Although it did look like for the 2nd one the ref did warn him!

    EDIT:Sorry HB1!

    Wonderful news.

Fabrice Muamba "has been able to recognise family members and respond to questions appropriately", his club Bolton and hospital have jointly said. He can "breathe independently" but remains in intensive care after a cardiac arrest on Saturday.

care to show where i did any of these things? i once called lizard and old man and he got offended by it, other than that I just never tried to rise to the baiting. However im pretty sure i never made reference to your arse or any other part of your body. By the way last time I was in Reykjavik, booze was an absolute rip off, no one should ever have to pay 9 quid for a pint.

anyway back to the issues that matter. fantastic news that he is improving, highly unlikely that he will ever play again but that pales into insignificance after what he has been through. keep going fab.

I'm pretty sure I read on an FA website that the rules state you receive a booking if the shirt is removed, or covers the player's head. No idea why.

Excellent news, its going to be a long recovery but at least he's started improving earlier than I expected.

Problem appears to be that the anomalies can apparently come and go and are not permanent according to this article on the BBC website.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17429446

It also states that Muamba has reportedly had 4 cardiac scans so far in his career including one last summer and none would appear to have picked up anything wrong.

It was Billy Sharp who was playing for Doncaster at the time.

Also I watched an hour of sky sports today, and it seems this is very common as they interviewed a number of players with the same condition.A stevenage Borough player recently retired after being diagnosed with it as if he played any sport he could kill him, left him devastated and in depression sitting at home at an early age. They did interview a few nore but the names escape me.

It's stop advertising or political messages being displayed. Thierry Henry had a political message about a Caribbean island (can't remember where) and Robbie Fowler had one about the striking dockers in Liverpool.

    Thank you, Cheeky…
“You know you've got your head shoved up your arse when you proclaim yourself as right, and refuse to accept other people's point of view.”
“I wouldn't bother with her too much if I were you mate. Apparently no other opinion matters but hers”

    Thank you, wfcthroughandthrough…
“Gymgirl - Do you have a stick up your arse? Quickly overtaking lizard as the most arrogant member on this forum.”

I don’t refuse to accept other people’s point of view. Presented by a reasoned argument, I’ll accept it – whether it aligns with mine, or not. I actually believe that you have both applied some random inverse rationale and I am struggling to understand you.

    Thank you, OH….
“Not exactly reasoned debate, you said I made your blood boil.“
“At the end of the day who gives you the right to make a judgement about me......get a grip.”

I didn’t make a personal assessment of you (until you responded with handbags, which makes you fair game). I asserted my right to question people’s over-emotional responses to a public crisis (of which you were one of many). There was nothing ‘personal’ in it. At no time did I state that ‘you’ made my blood boil (yet)

I note that the post with the reference to it being ‘my time of the month’ has been removed.
What a shame... I could have really had some fun with that

When I am ready, and not before. Is that the only ammo you could come up with? It only reinforces my points across this thread. Why did you feel a need to do your research to qualify what everyone already knew, anyway? Do you feel clever now?

    Just for you.... \o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/

Glad you liked it. I can't claim credit for it, but I know the person who authored it and I have a lot of time for them. I think that pretty much summed up a lot of feeling on the day....

......and, everyone, if you look on other football boards, anyone who rolls out a second-by-second account of Muamba's criticality and those who have followed the 'perspective and football' cliche have, inevitably, been torn to teeny weeny lickle pieces.

    My initial point, exactly

Ladies and gentlemen, I can officially announce that we have a self-appointed dictator on this forum. Her name is is gymgirl, and her word is the only one that counts (apparently). Don't try and reason with her, as she believes herself to be above all others, and she will nearly always end on some random comment about being in Iceland. Nope, not the supermarket, but the country, where she is paying through the roof for a pint.

I am glad that Iceland are the ones having to put up with you, and not England. Feel free to stay there. :sign16:
