Gueds was always looking for a positive pass or shot and not to pass negatively inside and into trouble unlike Capouie and his corner led to the goal, but he was subbed....Capouie was allowed to carry on in the same limp vein when Behrami on for him at earlier stage would have given us more energy to replace Goudiouras IMO
Didn't really understand the booing when Gueds was substituted. My first thought was that QSF wants to keep he relatively fresh for future games.
This Guedioura idolatry is slightly beyond me. I like him, a lot, but he can be a bit headless chicken. Is it because he was so publicly keen to come back? To be honest I don't see him as a starter, more as a sub who can come on and be unpredictable. And booing him being subbed is stupid, give him a standing ovation by all means, but don't let's have the sub coming on thinking 'I'm not wanted here'.
I agree. That said Gueds has done brilliantly to still be on top of his game after being ignored for half a season. I'm always happy to see him on the team sheet whether starting or sub. I think he has a good attitude so that's why he is appreciated.
Agree and Flores makes reference to the booing on the interview with Emma Saunders on Hornet Player though both try to laugh it off
Haha I called this on Shoutbox. Instead of aiming the corners at players, we now need to just assume that the ball will inevitably end up at knee height just in front of the first man, and throw a few players in there.
If you were forced to watch that match in the cold, without booze, you'd be pretty miserable too. The most they had to look forward to, unless handpicked by Quique, was essentially a 91st minute cameo.
Someone watching at home probably would have a better idea, especially if they hadn't been boozing... But who was your motm then?
That's easy gueds was our best player by a long way,Always looks to get forward, got stuck in,tracks back, good cross for the goal.Fans booed when he was taken off.HG with some good saves won the game for us either could have been given Motm
Is it that difficult to comprehend why he has become increasingly idolized among the fans? His athleticism and fast attacking intentions are what our fans yearn for, and more importantly, he is actually contributing something meaningful to our team. Sure, his style might not be pretty or super technical, but who cares when we've been in free fall and playing awful football. The booing is unnecessary, but I think it just underlines the frustration at the manager's complete disregard for meritocracy.
Corner assist aside yesterday, which had nothing to do with 'athleticism or fast attacking intentions', the majority of what he seemed to contribute were fouls and shonky passes. Oh and one shot no better than any by Jurado or Suarez. Yes he runs around willingly and contrasts noticably with the majority of the team who seem to have a very languid style. Nor was he the worst player on the pitch and I'd have probably kept him on at that point but he'd hardly made an overwhelming case to stay on either. The growing counter-movement which would make us think he's constantly our standout performer is just bonkers. The booing accompanying it says a lot more about a subset of our fanbase than QSF at the moment - spoiled and forgetting/forgotten where we've come from. Plus ironically I think the booing will see Gued's card marked - what coach in his right mind will want to deal with that rubbish just for the sake of a fringe player? Better to see him quietly out of the door in the summer maybe...
If Guedioura goes in the summer (which he probably will), it won't have anything to do with some minor booing in the crowd. Does Jurado get his "card marked" every time he gets booed? Obviously not. Guedioura's departure will have everything to do with Flores simply not wanting him.
Firstly, I don't think any player coming on would assume that they were being booed, more that the player going off was being supported and the decision to take him off questioned. Otherwise, for me at least, my support for Guedioura is based on his fantastic performances for us over three spells at the club. He's shown more willingness to take risks to open up the game and create something than the rest of our midfield combined. As for preferring him as a sub, personally I like seeing him start to give us a chance of taking the lead, rather than bringing him on later on when we may be behind. You only have to look at the contrast between our records when scoring first or when the opponents score first to see that the first goal is crucial in our games. We're more likely to score that goal with Guedioura in the team than without him. His obvious passion and respect for the club and the fans is great, but it's by no means my main reason for supporting him.
Guedioura is not a Premier League standard player. I know people will be more attached to the players who helped us get to the position we are in, but you have to move on from this. Everytime he plays, he's poor on the ball, makes 2/3 absolutely awful passes a game in which they should just be simple passes. It infuriates me more that people look at him so positively at times, but in the same instance, completely berate Jurado. Jurado is on another level technically to Guedioura, and if we're going to maintain our status as a PL club, we need to work out a way to have a player of his quality in the team. I honestly think he could flourish in the right system. Some times he'd make a top quality turn or flick, and create himself some space, but absolutely nothing will be happening in front of him, and he'll cut back and play it back to Ake/Holebas. He's shoehorned into our 4-4-2/4-3-1-2 formations that Flores has played. Neither suits him. I'm not exonerating Jurado from blame, because he has been poor. But he seems to get an unfair time of it from a lot of fans. He could be key for us next weekend in unlocking Palace's defence.
Gueds not premier league stranded lol. What has Jurado done this season no assists,,no goals, lazy, does not track back gives the ball away absolute dog ****e.
I refuse to initiate conversation with someone who goes on about Forestieri even have as much as you do.
Minor booing? Clearly audible on the stream and subject of media questions post-match. Doesn't sound minor to me. Do you not think Flores feelings of not wanting him might be enhanced by him picking up flak as a result of daring to sub Gueds?
What use is being technically superior if you don't use that to influence games? Guedioura might not be as polished, but if I were a defender I'd prefer to play against someone with a lovely first touch but little application, than someone who might misplace a few passes but actually runs towards the goal and has a decent shot.
Watched MOTD. Jurado passes backwards, receives return pass and then passes sideways. Classic Jurado. It was only that Guedioura drove forwards and had a blocked shot which caused the corner. That's the difference. A player who looks forwards and one who doesn't.
Do you think the way we play is in anyway suitable to seeing Jurado at his best? He has some top class turns and tricks up his sleeve but we don't play in a way that will utilise him. Against Everton, there was a fantastic turn he made in the first half that brought us in between the lines of Everton's midfield and Defence and he took off running at Everton's defensive line. There was literally no movement in front of him and it came to nothing. I think he could be one of our top players if we are more expansive and willing to get forward. However, I'm not sure we've the players to play that way. I hope Behrami starts over Guedioura next week. We can't be giving away possession as sloppily as he does if Bolasie/Puncheon/Zaha get free space to run on Nyom. That's the key to us winning the game.
Whatever people may say about his lack of defensive cover, Jurado and Ake have established a solid partnership on the left from an attacking perspective and he still had the vision to pick the right player in space to create the goal. Passing backwards and receiving the returning pass was clearly the sensible thing to do as it retains possession and buys time until you have an option to pass to someone in a more favourable position. He played an instrumental part in the difference between 1 point and 3 points and as good as confirmed safety yesterday, and I'm not convinced that any other player in his position would have had the nous to do what he did that easily.
