Scrappy classic mid table side win. We made it more difficult than we needed to, but Swansea wouldn't have scored in 900 minutes, let alone 90. They had no quality up front whatsoever. We played well at parts, but we desperately need some pace to bring on when ahead. Janmaat played well and Okaka did well when introduced. People need to stop freaking out and being so negative in the stands. We are not the same Watford which used to concede in injury time. We defended well and always looked in control.

Got the job done. The three wins I predicted we needed to take, we got, so we are now safe and it's a relief. But today we were poor, although it was still enough to shade a tight game. Mazzarri's formation change bringing on Kabasele for Amrabat was a poor piece of management. It changed the game in Swansea's favour and from there on in we were on the back foot. It caused unnecessary anxiety and pressure. I was very surprised he did this, and as far as I'm concerned this raises more questions over his judgement. Doucoure was very good though, which leads another question on Mazzarri's judgement. Clearly didn't rate him or gave him a chance until injuries forced his hand. I think Success is another victim, and should have been given far more game time. His progress has been hampered this season because of this. Marriappa's not been played all season, but today he showed he's as good as anyone at the back. Why so little game time? We've stayed up but there has been little progress made. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a big clear out in the summer. It seems like we need this in order to progress.

I don't know why at times like this people continue to moan and criticise - maybe that's their pleasure from football. There are hardly any footballers in any team that are consistently outstanding, everyone has off days for all sorts of reasons. And, games like todays are full of pressures, anxieties and tensions. I thought we played like a team and I couldn't question the commitment of any player out there today (the disagreements amongst some players demonstrated that commitment). As has been said in another thread, we are 3 years now in the Premier League and the ground and club have come a long way from just a few years back. As for the guff about clear outs and deadwood - take a look at some of the players in teams immediately below us at the moment. I didn't expect classic football today, but I thought we controlled it pretty well - nearly threw away 2 points but covered our errors well. Really pleased to see Marriappa playing well. I'm with those who believe that Mazzarri can build on this next season.
Agree with all apart from the last bit. Our performances and attacking play has vastly improved over the last month or so. We were dire mid season.
I only consider the West Brom game as a good performance. Sunderland and Swansea were not particularly good performances, but results were absolutely vital. Spurs, United, Palace, Southampton and West Ham all before this were varying degrees of below par to garbage performances.
Maybe you can cut Wally some slack for once in your gloomy life? Maybe he thought a barely back from injury CB and a 6th choice CB were not going to withstand Swansea onslaught and put another CB on..? Marriapa is a fantastic player to have in the squad. Home grown, doesn't complain if he is overlooked for months on end and still puts in good performances when called upon. A great professional.
I think that's being a little unfair on those that played at spurs. For 30 minutes we were very good, for the rest of the game we had some good spells. There is a reason Spurs are up the top of the table. I actually disagree with you regarding the game today. We were comfortable, we could still be playing now and I doubt Swansea would have scored. 1 up and switch to 3 at the back to counter Swansea bringing on another striker? Its a very Italian way of playing football and you have to trust your defenders. Ok we let them have the ball wide, but Swansea never really looked like scoring. Once we were one nil up I never thought we were going to throw it away today, I think many probably feel the same way.
