Well that is a point - for all of the issues regarding Deeney's weight at least Troy was fit for most of the season .

At the moment could you trust Okaka and Success plus another to keep fully fit for a majority of next season?

Agree that we will struggle to replace Deeney. Hopefully Gino has anticipated this move just going on previous attempts. Walsall are holding out for s massive 20 per cent sell-on fee over and above 500k. We must have been really struggling back in the day to agree such terms. So that is why we previously set the bar at 32.5 million sterling. We don't seem to be challenging for promising strikers like Mounie or Simeone which was worrying even before Leicester made their move. Interesting times ahead. COYHS!

Awful at times last season and for £25m we could get a much better option but I'm interested to see what system Silva plays and how Troy fits in. I see what people are saying about his goals and his personality around the club would be missed but I don't see how people can so regularly gloss over his limited ability in terms of his touch, lack of pace and non-existent movement.

I would like to see Troy play under Silva.

Personally I think he'll do better under a different head coach. Last season probably his worst for us, May not be a coincidence.

I'm not disagreeing but not agreeing either a so I guess my question is:

Who can we get for £25m that...
    A. Would want to come?
    B. Would guarantee 10-15 goals?
    C. Wages?
    D. Will fit straight in like Troy?

Like I have said, I'd take £25m if it was being offered. But to think we could just easily replace him is nonsense. I suspect we would buy someone like Assombalonga and a prospect from Serie A and there's a huge element of unknown in doing that.

I think a lot will depend on what Silva thinks after he has assessed Troy's abilities in Silva's set up and playing style and his captaincy and leadership.

    Replacement striker(s)?
Replacement hold up play/linking for fast counter attacks?
    Replacement captain?
    Replacement character around the club?

If Silva thinks he can do without Troy and we have suitable replacement in place, then I think the hierarchy will consider top bids, as whatever the price, it is discounted by 20% for Walsall's cut.

If Silva says no, I want Troy as part of my plans, I believe he will stay.
Just my gut feeling, not ITK.

And I would be happy to see the new svelte Troy play under Silva as I believe he is bursting to hit the 20 goal mark again.

    Three points for me here:

Who could we get to replace him for similar money (ignore sell on clause, our issue and won't affect market value). I struggle to think of another premier league striker that I think is as good, that we could get for the same price and would leave their club to join us. Many 1st choices would be higher value, many 2nd choices aren't as good. There is talk of £20m for Giroud who is 30 and, in my opinion, not as good as Troy and not HG. Outside of that we run the risk of needing somebody to settle for season (even if we found them) which is not good for your main man.

Flip side is that Troy is 29 so his value will start to diminish going forward, if we want top dollar then now is probably the time. Much is made of Troys influence in the dressing room/club and link with the supporters. None of that can be denied but has it got to the point of being unhealthy, do the club want a fresh start for the new manager? Not saying this is the case but, for example, were the players unhappy last season because Troy was unhappy? Or not.

Last thing is, does he want to move on himself? Various bits around family issues previously, maybe wants a new challenge? Not sure that Leicester or WBA will win him more/any trophies but does he see Vardy and Drinkwater getting England call ups and think he chances are greater there? If any of that is true then probably, and sadly, best for all to move on.

All that said I would like him here next season.

    U wot m8?!?!

    Agree with this though.

A lot is being made here of Troy as a natural born leader and big dressing room presence, but I'm not convinced how positive an influence he really is - most of the time on the pitch he just looks a natural born moaner, and he has also 'led' the dressing room to two Premier League seasons which started well but both ended with most of the players looking like they couldn't give a monkeys and much talk of dressing room discontent.

I don't think captaining the side to 17th in the table is much deserving of a big round of applause...

Look - if we net 20m after the Walsall slice and add the Ighalo money we can finally pay off Benskins and the Bonsers and own the ground!

A lot of discussion on this forum has centred around his value and quality as a charismatic English player, with good hold up play, physique etc... we all get it... so

Question, if Troy Deeney is worth the supposed £25m...

    How much is Welbeck worth?

And who would you rather have starting up front?

Think Welbeck can be a decent player if ever fully fit - just not a natural goal scorer.

Be better than what we have atm if you are suggesting we should sign him?

It's not so relevant as will never happen - but to answer one of the posts above, Deeney is not better than Giroud so I'd happily swap, especially if we made a profit!

I vaguely remember a week or so ago, Troy posted one of those Instagram video story things of a massive housing plot being built upon - if that plot is down here, can't see him going. If it's in the midlands, as I suspect given he's moved his family back up there, could be something in this I guess.

Of all the players you could bring up, you bring up old 'miss an open goal' Welbeck.

Arsenal really do have the biggest set of supremely average English players.

It's interesting because his value cant be much higher than that. He has more road ahead of him. He has played better in big games. He will be down the pecking order. I just feel hes often overlooked and that he brings the Deeney debate into a bit of perspective.

I'm quite glad people ignore your mundane put downs most of the time, but occasionally you need to be told to shut up.

You are boring. Go 'support' another team.

Why do you enjoy simply being annoying? How do you derive pleasure from it? It's a tragic state of affairs that you find solace in an internet forum dedicated to supporters discussing what is best for their club.

Just try something new, is my suggestion. Seriously, I worry for you. Get out the house, kick a football, find some friends... anything!

Would be a terrible decision to sell Deeney now. Yes the transfer fee would be great for any other 29 year old striker with his recent scoring record, but i think he will be pivotal in our success this year. Looks in great shape already for pre-season and I would imagine he is ready to prove that Mazzari was an absolute turd and didn't know his arse from his elbow about the team.

    We'd never get Welbeck.
He's far too good for us and wouldn't come here.

Says the poster getting so very upset that another poster doesn't think Danny Welbeck is very good.

Say to yourself every morning in the mirror - 'i'm not going to get upset on the internet today, i'm not going to get upset on the internet today.' It's a good start.

We do have the most special set of supporters, we really do.

But sitting third (maybe even fourth) choice at Arsenal is doing his World Cup bid no favours.

I reckon, if Silva is content that Troy ain't gonna be here next season, then he must have a decent replacement lined up.

Not necessarily a Troy-like player, but who knows. I will look forward to see who we get in as a replacement.

Welbeck will play second fiddle to Lacazette, and Sanchez again. Will he start a lot of games for Arsenal, probably not. Wenger will use him for the cup games and when Lacazette and Sanchez need a break (when they play against the likes Brighton and Huddersfield). He will probably make a lot of appearances off the bench to see out the last 10/20mins of games or when Arsenal are losing.

He's 26 entering the prime of his career, he has to decide if he is ok with a bench and occasional start role or if he wants a starting most games role. I'm sure it's the second option but leaving a big club is tough decision to make.

If he does leave for a starting role it will be to someone like West Ham, not a tin pot club like ours.

Question & sorry if its been answered before.

If we swapped Deeney for a player of equal value, would Walsall still be entitled to anything, as technically no money would have changed hands?

    Yup!
It might be possible to pay we swapped players with an equal value lower than real and skim a bit off i guess but Walsalls lawyers would be all over it and the FA hate us!

Tell leicester he's not for sale than put in a counter bid for Vardy, just to wind them up.
