Let's see what shape he's in on Saturday against Woking, if he looks like he's lost weight and regained his sharpness, then we should keep him.

We would be obliged to give them a portion of the player headed our way. For example if we did a swap for Vardy, Walsall would be entitled to his left foot, or both of his ears.

Think we should keep the feet, ears are also important for headphones on arrival at the ground and neckwear for interviews. Arms we'd need to protect from facial injuries when diving. Maybe we could offer brain and personality as he doesn't use them anyway, however not sure we'd get away with that as 20%.

  4. miserableoldgit

In that situation Walsall would be entitled to 20% of his caravan

Thank god they wouldn't be entitled to a portion of Troy Deeney. He'd never give that up without a fight.

I was thinking more along the lines of half his chin as that might make him look less like Steptoe.

Can't believe we're demanding 25m from Leicester. All of a sudden the season's over and everyone's forgiven Deeney's inability to run through defences, create chances, complete key passes, or take good touches. If they want pay 20m for a statue that takes really pretty penalty kicks, we should be biting their hands off for it. Decent lad but not a good enough footballer. I'd be happy with Giroud or Welbeck, honestly. Not always brilliant but the former is experienced and has a bit of class, the latter has flashes of real skill every once in a while which is better than flashes of real skill once every season.

Some sort of support and the occasional ball delivered to him might have helped.

As goldenstate-goldenboy pointed out in the comment you've posted, and as I've said quite a few times - Deeney is basically "a statue" most of the time. He gets plenty of balls delivered to him but unless they're handed to him on a silver platter and he's already sitting there waiting with a knife and fork in his hands and a bib on then he's useless at feeding off of them and they get away from him.

And regarding "some sort of support" most clubs in the Prem can't afford the luxury of playing 2 up top most weeks; Deeney has always looked best as a support striker, playing behind a more mobile and dare I say more talented frontman. He is very ineffective at leading the line.

  10. goldenstate-goldenboy

    goldenstate-goldenboy First Year Pro

Sure, maybe. The thing is, he actually did get balls delivered to him occasionally. Not as regularly as should be expected from a Premier League offence, but there were only a few games where Deeney was essentially starved of touches. But the majority of the time, he never did anything with them. His touch was too poor or his pass was off target or he couldn't quite catch up to the pass because, surprise surprise, he wasn't already moving so he couldn't accelerate fast enough. Poor support and service don't really excuse all of his shortcomings. Remember that there were points in time we were top half and chattering about the last Europa League spot. We weren't THAT abysmal or we would've been relegated.

Can't judge him for last 2 seasons of hyper defensive one dimensional football, even Messi would have struggled . See how pre season unfolds before making any rash decisions of letting him go .
At present he is only half decent striker we have at the club ,who isn't injured every 5 mins. For that reason I think it would be a mistake to sell ,however if he wants to leave then that's different .
To replace him with a proven goalscorer (or two) might be difficult especially with this new ethos of chasing hg players.

I'll be in ******* great shape for Woking and Wimbledon. This will last as long as Bournemouth, then I'm going away for a couple of weeks.

By the time of Southampton, I'll have started to lose motivation and after that, I'll begin whaleing out (or 'bulking' as I believe it's euphemistically known) until next March.

My advice, see me this month, because if you don't, you'll have missed a treat.

It could well make sense for the club, cash in and remove/free up two players worth from the wage bill.

The Pozzos are big on data. They will have been studying the miles run/time at the buffet ratio. When they call time on Deeney my guess is it will be the right time.

But big big shoes to fill. Hence the HG signings?

Am I missing something? This Mounie guy has had 2 fairly decent seasons in a league that is far inferior on the whole to the PL. He MIGHT end up decent but theres no guarantee of that and I can't at all see how not paying £11m+ could be classed as 'pure stupidity'. In fact I'd say it's extremely sensible.

Never ******* heard of him until a couple days ago, if the Pozzo's wanted him they would've got him, simple.

He'll be utter turd and back in France this time next year, not signing him for 11 million will be the best bit of business the Pozzo's did this Summer.

Deeney was clearly unhappy with the personality of the squad/manager last season. He certainly forced Mazzarri out and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he had a say in getting players like Chalobah back, so I'd be shocked if he went now, with a lot of signs that it's going to be a good season.

I only consider it 'pure stupidity' if we allow Deeney to leave.

I'd much rather have Deeney, however if we allow our main CF to leave whilst letting our rivals buy a potential affordable replacement without challenging them then yes I consider it as stupid.

Unless someone can suggest an alternative with higher pedigree, who'd be willing to join a team like us I will continue to think this.

Best case scenario Deeney stays and it doesn't matter anyway

    So those of you really keen selling him... Who will come in to replace him, that is;
    A. Better
    B. Affordable
    C. Available
    D. Proven
    E. Wants to come here
I'd rather stick with the guy that scored us 20+ goals 3 seasons on the bounce, and then carried on scoring when we got promoted to the Prem.
New manager, new team mates, looks leaner, I think he will have a good season, and hopefully he has it with us.

It sounds like Iheanacho is on his way to Leicester for 25 mil. I cant see them spending near 50 million for the two of them.

  26. Jellyman

    1. They won't pay him as much as we do.
    2. He won't play as much.
    3. He won't be the captain/big man on campus.
    4. They're only marginally more likely to be better than us this season

Only real reason I can see that he may go is to be closer to Birmingham.

  27. JK HORNET

All good questions! Unfortunately all those who want us to get rid of Deeney go quiet when these questions are asked.

I would genuinely like to know who people would like to replace him as well. I can't think of a decent, suitable alternative myself so wouldn't mind hearing the suggestions.

I think Chris Wood is a good player, but reckon he'd cost more than the 20mil we'd get from Troy (16 if you include Walsall's %). He's also unproven other than a few decent seasons in the championship. Only scored more than 20 goals in a season once in his career.

And if he hasn't requested a transfer, wouldn't he get a cut of the fee, or has that system all changed?

Personally hope he stays, and a big risk to go to another middling club where their fickle fans start booing when he doesn't produce the goods from game 1.
(unlike we Orns of course  )

"And at 28 years, it could give Deeney the opportunity to feature in a side that is more ambitious than collecting 40 points and taking their feet off the gas."

"Having clocked 2942 minutes in the league, one of the highest for an outfield player in 2016-17, Deeney would like to return better figures compared to last year’s 10 goals and 4 assists."

    These are fair points. BUT:

"Moving to the 2016 Premier League champions would be anything but a step down for the player."

Oh do feck off!!! You were doing so well.

Thankfully he's not going anywhere unless some club offers £30mil or more.

Leicester isn't exactly a step up from Watford, more of a sideways move really.

The reality is Leicester will be fighting off relegation this season, especially once mahrez leaves, Vardy is 30 and will be 31 soon. Shakespeare inspired them last season but personally I think he will be sacked by January as Leicester find themselves in the bottom 3. They will be back in the championship within the next two seasons. Not willing to put my house on it but that's just my opinion.

What a strange use of this metaphor. What kind of car needs more than one person to put their foot on the gas at the same time ?

Disagree. They've signed Maguire, Iborra and looks like they'll get Ihenacho (sp) and it's only the start of July. I think they'll probably bring in a good winger if Mahrez goes too.

If they are buying Iheanacho for £25m+, they ain't buying Deeney as well considering they already have Vardy and Slimani.

Coincidentally, if we did somehow sell Deeney - all the questions we are asking about how we could replace him someone affordable, proven in the PL etc etc...well the name of Iheanacho escaped me and I would definitely be happy with him.
