Yeah but he doesn't score goals! Look at his record last season, awful.

It's the 100k a week wages and the fact that he's no longer a leader of the team .

Take into account that last season Okaka scored more goals per minute played than Deeney with or without penalties , means we have a perfect big guy replacement. Sell Deeney and buy a speedy striker who gives us more options .

Seems like good business to me

I see he's odds on to join Leicester with Skybet and betvictor. Do they know something we don't?

Hmmm. The 25m figure touted is one I'd probably take on the proviso we get at least 1 but ideally two quality strikers in which is easier said than done. His goal record is not that great without penalties and he was pretty poor last year. Sentimentality aside now is probably the time to sell but not if there’s no serious replacements.

Deeney for Mahrez - yep can see the Leicester fans skipping to work with that thought.

If we have a better forward signed sealed and delivered £25 million is just enough in a window that has seen Ake go for £20 million. Personally I would prefer him to stay.

He looks lean and hungry so far this pre season. Last season he just looked hungry....

Shame if he moved on. Total legend. Don't think he led as a captain last year though so a new start might be best for everyone.

As always it depends in who comes in. If they're better, then great. If it's Acuna, then not so. The money is irrelevant to us.

On the face of the last few weeks it doesn't feel like Troy is leaving. He's the main man in the new Addidas kit launch pictures, heavily pictured in the Pre-season pictures and videos not to mention the club ran an interview with him too. He also looks like he's lost more than a few pounds in weight over the break and the photos were quite clear to show that too.
If the club already had a deal together to move him on I think they would have done it early and he wouldn't be back playing the club captain and spokesman role. It would be a disruptive step.

Yep, and a large chunk of whatever money we got would go straight to Walsall so it would need to be a very good offer

Can't believe that 18m was enough for Gino due to the sell-on clause Walsall cleverly insisted upon all those years ago. Don't know how much...somebody should remind us. It has been the only thing I reckon that has blocked a move on more than one occasion. Whatever the outcome we still need another top striker however that is defined. COYHS.

On balance & reluctantly I think this could happen, but would be a shame for his career to go to Leicester. Understandably they are still trying to dine out on their great achievement, but that's consigned to history. Now, it's not a step up nor would WBA.

Their squad is starting to get broken up & I can see a hangover emerging. It will almost certainly be Vardy leaving next season. Nothing against Shaky but if he's still there next season will be a management miracle.

Troy - stay where you are until you get the move you really want & deserve. The fans will understand when you do eventually leave. Long term you will regret going to Leicester City.

He's 29 and is not suited at all to Silva's more counter-attacking style. For that kind of money I can't believe that we couldn't find a striker with a bit more quality better suited to Silva's needs.

Don't give a monkey's if he leaves really, long overdue. It's always an absolute pain in the arse when the Greggs steak bakes are sold out purely because deeney necked them all.

Not entirely disagreeing with you, but what is this based on? Are you one of these people who's played a bit of FIFA and thinks a counter attacking team is just lots of fast players?

Troy is one of the league's best at holding the ball up, but he's also an underrated ball player when he's given space. Both very important to a counter attack. His assist for Vydra against Brighton in 2012/13 is a perfect example of his value to a counter attack.

In fact, I would say he's played his best football for manager's who like to counter. Think Joka, and pre-Christmas QSF.

Even if we don't sell we need another striker to come in, and not one who is just going to go out on loan for 2 seasons and never put on a Watford shirt.

At £25m I would sell. But I'd insist that we buy first. But like Everton are with Lukaku - that deal is blatantly done but they are insisting on buying first to soften the blow.

That said, this still feels like tabloid nonsense to me - regurgitate a story from seasons gone by. I can't see anyone paying £25m for him - and with the Walsall clause, that's what Gino will be asking for I suspect.

...that was when he had Ighalo always running off the shoulder to slide balls through to; same with the assist for Vydra. I don't see Silva playing 2 up top, and his all-round game isn't ideal to be starting as a 10 in a 4-5-1 - so we are more sorely lacking a player who can stretch defences with their running off the ball.

As for this bit "but he's also an underrated ball player when he's given space." - I don't disagree that he's good when he's given space; the big problem is he's so immobile that he is basically never able to get himself in to any at this level, for him to get space it always requires another player to go on a dribble or make a run that takes a couple of defenders out the game as Troy can't do that himself, either that or the opposition defenders are just completely switched off (as per Arsenal last season).

I wouldn't even consider selling Troy for 20mil. We rejected +25mil offers last summer so not sure why we'd sell him for less now.

Didn't have the best of seasons last year, but can anybody name me a single attacking player who did?

He's been 1 of our best players for 5 years now, is the main man in the dressing room, helps all the younger players and is the captain.

We're already in need of a marquee striker without losing him from the squad. There's no way we'll sign 2 in the same window. Realistically if we sell him for 20, who could we bring in the replace him for that price?

Agreed + at least you know when we have a penalty, TD has always got the ability to put it in. What other player can you say that about in this squad. If you think about it never have we had a decent penalty taker since Mooney. That's worth 25m+ alone in todays money.

There probably is but we haven't been linked with many strikers.

As Burnsy says we do need a striker or two anyway unless we are hoping Success come good..

Can't see the point in selling our captain and one of Watfords best players. It's insane to think we could replace him on the pitch and what he does off it. He's the main link to the supporters and a natural born leader. Can't wait to see people eating their words after he bangs home 15+ this season.

The main problem I have with selling Deeney is who we will replace him with... Theoretically, whoever replaces Deeney will most likely be a downgrade because surely the other team would've gone for that person instead, if they were the same calibre. Let's be honest, the main attributes that give Deeney his value are his size, nationality, charisma and playstyle (links with physique) which is what some teams are desperate to have as a part of their plans. However if there was a foreign player with exactly the same attributes as Deeney it's most likely he would be far more cheaper on the basis that he is foreign. Therefore, surely he would be a far more favourable target for Leicester even if he isn't English and doesn't have the charisma Deeney has?

So this brings me to the point of replacement.... Deeney is probably the best proven English striker we are going to get for £20,000,000 these days. If there was anyone as good as, or nearly as good as Deeney, Leicester would've snapped him up. If Austin weren't a crocked player, he'd be a hell of a player too. But unlike Deeney, he is often injured. If we are going to replace him, I doubt they'd be any better. Even the likes of Giovanni Simeone are going for over £20,000,000 and they haven't really proven themselves yet apart from a decent first season.

If Ighalo kept the form he had at the beginning of the 2015/16 season we'd be laughing. It wouldn't be an exaggeration in saying that Ighalo's early form would have had him valued at (minimum) £35,000,000 in today's market. On top of that, we sold him for £20,000,000 at a time where he couldn't hit a shot on target at an open goal from 10 feet distance...

In conclusion, we're better off keeping Deeney. With huge inflation, his value wouldn't even depreciate by much, even if he has another bang average season. And if that were the case (again) then sell him. Unless the Pozzo's decide to use the £20,000,000 to go towards a £40,000,000 bid for a world class player, I don't see much point in getting rid of our only relatable player atm.

Would Agee. There is zero chance we will get another Premier league striker who has scored 10 plus goals in the Premiership. We may get someone from Serie A who has scored goals, but often players don't make the transition. We need to get another striker as 2 forwards is not enough. Deeney I am sure will be better under the new manager, he clearly didn't get on with Walt.

Even then the 'Deeney struggled to hold down a regular place last season' line I keep reading in the media is utter nonsense. 31 starts and 6 sub appearances was obviously lower than the QSF season but is still 37 appearances out of 38 possibles. And his form was pretty shonky at times.
