He waits for things to happen these days, whereas previously he went and made things happen.

It's only natural that complacency creeps in when you get a pay rise to £100k a week. He got very comfortable at Watford and it was interesting to see his reaction to being dropped. Some players would accept they need to improve, and use it as motivation and push on. Unfortunately he took it as a personal insult and just moaned and felt sorry for himself, and went behind mazzarris back to the press if the rumours are to be believed.

I think it showed big flaws in his character and I wonder if it might be best all round for him to move on and have a fresh start elsewhere. Of course he might see a new manager as motivation enough to knuckle down and work hard to get back to his best, but this doesnt feel likely.

I suspect it all stems from lingering feelings of insecurity and inferiority he has, brought about by his difficult upbringing.

Stay tuned for more amateur psychology next week.

Not that I want him to leave, but the nature of football is that players come and go all the time. If enough money is offered, any club would sell any player.

Was he doing that last season too?

Quique struggled with English as well, to the point where there would regularly be awkward moments in interviews where he would say things that genuinely didn't make sense. He learned a couple of generic one-line platitudes and the word 'amazing', but that was pretty much all he could manage. He certainly wouldn't have been able to go on 5live or Match of the Day as a guest and speak at length.

I know you find it very hard to read any criticism of Troy Deeney, for whatever reason.

He's a Watford legend, no doubt, and for the most part, a great guy and ambassador for the club. But is he a bit of a ego-driven media whore? I'd say there's plenty to suggest the answer is yes.

I don't find it hard to read criticism of anyone. What I take issue with is people being unfair and not thinking rationally when being critical of someone, regardless of who that person is.

Deeney clearly does have a big ego and enjoys regularly putting himself out there in the media and getting attention. So what? More often than not it reflects well on him and our club and raises our profile. I remember Zola being the same when he was head coach. It would be extremely naive to think that the club don't actively encourage this, especially given the stuff that has been leaked this week about their concerns that Mazzarri not speaking English has damaged our profile.

I don't begrudge him doing intereviews or going on match of the day. I quite enjoy it actually.

However leaking articles to the press to get the manager fired, or taking days off training to make media contacts (you'd have thought that the extra day of rest would have made him play well if his stories are to be believed, but he was abysmal), isn't representing the club the way a captain should.

They aren't the kind of news articles that I want to read about the club.

Has all this been confirmed that it was Deeney or is this guesswork?

This guy has been immense for us for so many seasons yet he has one very mediocre year playing for a very mediocre team and people are offering to drive him to another team

Sincerely hope he stays and finds his form again. If he does go then he will probably be one of the very few that I would miss

Can never write off or understate what he's meant to or done for the club, but I think it's time for him to go, personally. The question was put to us not long ago who you'd pick if it was Deeney vs Mazzarri, which in that case was a no brainer to pick Deeney, but I still think it's time for Troy and the club to move on.

Too slow, too static and seemingly more and more arrogant and media obsessed by the day. Another season of Deeney being our main striker will hold us back, and that's inevitably what he'll be if he does stay, with us continuing to play ugly hoofball towards a striker with very little movement.

Itll be tough to get a big money deal for him unless he spends the summer losing the bulk. Troy has been a brilliant servant but its time to part ways now. He clearly has lost his football mojo now the big contract landed his way.

No way he'd drop down to The Championship. Someone in the Prem would take him for whatever price Leeds could stump up.

Lazy journalism. His late father was a Leeds fan and Troy's a Brum fan so they've made the link.

Dirty Leeds seriously, you'd think they could come up with a story half believable. Trying to imagine the Troy Deeney show up there and I can't see him fitting in on Emmerdale.

I'm not sure who on this forum is a wind up and who isn't, but you can't mean that. Deeney was demonstrably too good for the Championship when he was in it and has only improved since then.

Same rumours year after year. Keep aiming and one day they'll get it right.

I don't want Deeney to go and I dread what crap we'd buy in his place!

He's only holding us back if we go on to replace him with someone better. Okaka is a useful squad player but not sure I want to build our whole attack around him next season. I wouldn't want to let him go til a replacement is in the bag.

I want him to stay. No one better will want to play for a bottom 5 Premiership side so no point having money we are incapable of spending properly.

Goals keep you up, and for that you need at least one reliable goalscorer.

Anyone check how many more goals than toothless Boro we managed to score this season?

Better be careful what we wish for with Troy, even replacing 10 goals a season from a striker may not be easy. Ask West Ham and their many attempts to buy someone decent.

I'd keep him. 10 goals and 4 assists is still valuable enough when it's unanimously agreed he's been average.

Not much worse than Firmino and I'm sure most would be ok with firmino signing

We don't exactly create a lot of chances. I think some of the top strikers in the Prem would struggle to score more than 10 goals for us. If Walt had got the best out of him, he would have scored a few more. Unless someone is prepared to pay silly money, or Troy really doesn't want to be here, then we need to keep.

I personally think Troy would be good if the Schmidt rumours are true. I have to admit the Blues and Leeds lads rumours made spit my tea out. A couple of my Birmingham City mates showed me this article and they are wetting themselves over it. I had to laugh at them, Troy is not going to drop down to the Championship even for Birmingham and can they really afford to buy him? Or even pay his wages absolute non story.
