Southampton fans will be probably wondering where this performance has been all season. Missed Charlie Austin I guess .
I think that's us safe now. Crawling across the line again... but a 4th consecutive season in the top flight.
9 point gap maintained so yesterday didn't matter after all. 35/36 points will keep you up this year, same as last season.
I felt sorry for Southampton. They may well escape if they continue to play as they did today, although their fixtures are not favourable. Jack Wilshire is a thoroughly obnoxious little tic.
They were close to getting a decent result today. Their next game is Chelsea at home, so hopefully that will be another loss. I don't write off Southampton yet though. They have something about them and I think they'll get out of trouble by the skin of their teeth.
I simply can't see them overtaking us - they need 10 points from their final 6 games to do that, and hope that we lose our final 5. We might well not win another point, but I simply can't see them getting 10. Chelsea and Man City at home - zero points, Bournemouth at home - 1 point, possibly 3 Leicester, Everton and Swansea away - 3 points, possibly 4. Which leaves us with Stoke to worry about - although I'm not sure that worry applies. They need 11 points Burnley and Palace at home - I'd be generous saying 2 points, but suspect zero West Ham, Liverpool and Swansea away - 3 if they're lucky. Mind you, I'm a hopeless tipster...
I have a feeling Southampton will beat Chelsea next week. Nonetheless, if we avoid defeat at Huddersfield I think that gets us over the line.
I think Huddersfield will beat us soundly unfortunately. 2 or 3 nil. We won't win another point and will finish 17th I reckon.
We will be fine. I think the difference to last season is that although our defending is league two standard at best, the rest of our play has generally been pretty good. Liverpool away aside, we have been competitive in all of our recent matches. Even Arsenal away was not as bad as the scoreline suggests, and we were much the better side against Bournemouth, and Burnley, crappy defending not withstanding. I think we will get a point at least against Huddersfield, and then do well against Palace, and Newcastle.
They won’t need 10 points, only 9, because if we lose all 5, their goal difference will almost certainly be better than ours. Worrying times.
We might as well go down. We deserve to be relegated as we are totally horrendous. At least in the championship most of the fans on this forum would be happy.
Lose at HTFC and then against CP and they will only be 2 and 3 points behind respectively. In fact if CP beat Brighton next week when we play HTFC they would go above us if they beat us. I wouldn't want to rely on Soton not reaching 37 points given they have a game in hand and still have Leicester, Bmuff, Swansea and Everton to play.
Watching Southampton reminds me how weak we are upfront. No matter what team weplay they always seem to have better options upfront. We will limp home this year but that is only because of our midfield. Upfront and defensively we are no better than West Brom and not even sure that is fair on them
Can see how the rest of the season is going to go: HTFC 2-1 goal from midfield for us. Useless defending lets Mounie in Palace 3-0 to them. Midfield fail to score against an average palace Zaha scores a brace Spurs 3 or 4 -0 No chance Newcastle they scrap a 1-0 win and defend like their life depends on it MU 1-4 midfield score. Utd walk through us like we aren't there for their goals
Southampton have won 5 games all season, mate. What have you seen that makes you think they're going to win at least 3 of their last 6?
I don't think it's 50/50 but it's certainly not impossible. They have Austin back, played well and had more shots and shots on target than arsenal at the Emirates yesterday. You think its impossible they could beat swansea, Bmuff, and one of everton or Leicester ?
Think you might not understand how the maths works exactly. In order for us to go down the 5 teams currently sitting between us & Southampton also need to win 50% of their remaining games (also assuming S'ton do win those games you mentioned) in order for them all to leap frog us & put us down into 18th & that's also assuming we don't pick up any more points. Most of those 5 teams on paper have harder run ins too. The odds on that must be like Leicester winning the league again. Should even by mathematically safe by the Man U if not CP fixture. 35/36 points will keep you in the PL this season, which is exactly the same as the last two seasons.
Ah good, the annual illogical bedwetting from people who don't seem to understand either football or mathematics is upon us.
I think I understand it a bit better than you given its my job ! So you understand maths do you ? Please explain, with 6 games to play, why the 5 teams below us all need to win 50% of their games when BHA, WHU and Swansea are 2, 3 and 5 points behind us respectively ? Likewise in the scenario I've described, if HTFC and CP beat us they would only be 2 and 3 points behind us ! It does amaze me how people on this forum don't understand maths and probability. For them it has to be black or white. We have to be either "safe" or "going down". It's obviously UNLIKELY we will be relegated. 35/36 MAY be enough to keep us up but you think it's already 100% cut and dried, a matter of fact do you ?? 0% ? Fancy putting your house on it ?
