    Yes and no.

They didn’t appeal on the grounds of an unscrupulous owner - they appealed on the grounds of Covid-19. In that respect it’s the same for everyone. The rules are clear - go into administration and you will have 12 points deducted. No ifs or buts.

I have sympathy of course for the fans and unwitting employee’s. But very few clubs go into administration undeservedly, if any.

The tale of Wigan is completely bonkers though. Bought by a new owner who no-one can really identify and then placed straight into administration even though the administrators have called it a well run club. Lots of rumours about a massive bet being placed on them going down in the Far East, something that the EFL chairman alluded to in a secretly taped conversation.

They weren't a club that had recklessly overspent, they've just been totally ****ed over by someone.

Oh yes, I know all of that and that’s why I really do sympathise. However, today’s decision was made by an independent arbitrary board - not by the EFL, who admittedly would be covering their own backs given they will have approved any takeover by said owner. The fact the board were independent would lead you believe that there is more to it than just the above.

As I said, it always seemed odd to me that they didn’t appeal on the grounds of the dodgy dealings of the owner etc. Had they done that, then from the outside looking in, I feel that the judgement might have gone their way. But they appealed due to the financial hit of Covid-19 - every club has had to deal with that so as such, they can’t be treated as a unique case. The judgement can only be based upon the grounds that the appeal was brought surely?

I don’t see how it’s ‘undeserved’ in that respect that’s all.

Well I was just pointing out that the administration seems underserved given that they were seemingly a well run club one week then the following week their new anonymous owner inexplicably put them into administration causing their relegation.

Poor Dave Whelan. He lifted Wigan up from non-league and built up his DW Sports chain, and both have gone pear-shaped at the same time. Life's work gone.

Did Wigan ever fall to non-league in the Springfield Park days? You might be right but I don't remember it.

They were always non-league till he took over and got them into the league for the first time.

Hmm. From the land of romance you say, so maybe Romanian. Good in the box you say, vampires reside in boxes and Transylvania is in Romania...

    Some grizzled old Italian then...?

Sorry but if you so called ITK people know who the new manager is and dont clean up at the bookies, you're probably the biggest buffoons I've ever come across. You're printing your own money with that information. So I'm calling BS.

From the conversations I’ve privately had with people on here today, I think there’s a bit of miscommunication - neither of the people on here who some are thinking have claimed to be ITK have relayed to me that they know it’s defo who they think or have been told.

They, like myself I think, have just asked questions to people they know connected to the club and have been given answers rightly or wrongly. I’ve asked 2 people - one had no info at all and the other gave 3 names and the outlook around those names. But the overriding thing I was told is that we weren’t close to an appointment at all so those names don’t mean much. It’s hardly worth relating back on here publicly!

But for the purposes of transparency, the names I were given were Struber (1st choice but hesitant to leave Barnsley so quickly but we are hoping to express the gap in ambition between the clubs), Ivic (his camp approached us about the job, rather than the other way around - but doesn’t mean we won’t investigate further), and Bo Henriksen (another who has approached the club but is not high on the wish list).

The overriding vibe I got was that we aren’t near an appointment yet - but who knows. These things happen quick I guess! Since I was told the above today, anything could have happened. But I didn’t relay those names above as they aren’t really new info.

The biggest thing I got told? Giraldi is not involved in the process.

Perhaps. But I doubt anyone really knows anything concrete due to the nature of the matter. But there are people on here who do have contacts at the club in various places - some are forthcoming with info and some aren’t. But it’s hard when you are trying to keep people informed but not plaster stuff widely on here too. Just because some people are apprehensive about blabbing stuff they have been told privately, doesn’t automatically mean it’s a lie.

Criticising those who may have genuine info will only make them less forthcoming in future.

For what it’s worth, I asked politely via DM for the name someone was given. And was given it.

Fair enough. But are you saying if you were given I side info that you wouldn't have a little punt?

  23. Burnsy

Of course I would if I thought the info was concrete. But not everyone likes to gamble or is driven by money I guess!

I trust the people who have given me info, (or not in one case!) - and they are very reliable with what they tell me if asked but don’t always feel comfortable enough to tell me something and I respect that - but I certainly wouldn’t be gambling on anything I was told today, not because I’m not certain it’s true but because it’s nowhere near close enough for me to think I’d win.

For what it’s worth, the name I was given by DM by the person I think you’re referencing, is not one of the names I have given above. It’s not even a name I’ve seen in the betting - but having looked at the name and his record, I can see it being of some truth.

As someone who works for a football club, this is illegal. If I told you something about the club I worked at, you bet on it (say you bet £200, when you'd usually bet £2) then I could get sacked for passing on knowledge. We have had training on it, and supposedly they can pick up irregularities very quickly.
