Bottom line is we pretty much agreed a fee with Lille and it was down to the player, if the player was holding out for other offers that's his prerogative. If Leicester go for him I can't see him not turning down the chance of playing in the Champions League, bigger clubs were probably not going to take the risk based on his current injuries.

No but it was reported that Lille accepted an offer from us (can't remember when or where) so it would have been down to the player.

If in fact we're still looking at an am player for the squad then Nicolae Stanciu who was being looked at by Southampton, Chelsea looks a class act. Stand out performer for Romania during the Summer. A cheaper fit version of this fella. Plus he has superb delivery from set pieces, which we have been crying out for.

Although Southampton are clearly a more attractive option in terms of club size this could be a very interesting transfer. A 'London' club hopefully on the up. Or a south coast club running out of marginal gains.

I understand the attraction of the club but isn't Southampton regarded as an uber sh*thole full of low grade chavs? I know people who went to Pompey university and they said Portsmouth was Mayfair in comparison?

I lived in Winchester, and worked in Eastleigh near Southampton, and they all though exactly the same of anyone from Portsmouth. I like both cities, and Fratton Park is a proper old fashioned football ground, and a great away day.

Every place has its ****holes, but Southampton has nothing to balance it out a bit. Pompey is a far better place to live and visit...
