I thought this thread was tedious last season. It was 16 pages...Gibbs was 29 this summer. Good work by all.

 

A lot of their complaints centre around him not being given a proper run in the team, and then when he does play, he's played out of position.
Hard to judge fairly under those conditions.

Just playing devil's advocate - but is it possible that he's a talented player that has suffered under the negative football of Puel and (what we've seen so far from) Pellegrino, and that if he was being coached properly by Silva he might flourish?

We only need to look at the difference in our own players between what Mazzarri got out of them compared to what Silva has done in just 4 games (I've deliberately not included the Bristol City match as it doesn't quite fit my narrative).

 

I think we may have faked our interest in order to push Southampton into the transfer, which opened the door on us signing Pereyra.......just a thought.

Exactly, we dont know what kind of player he is/could be until he gets a run off games with a manager who believes in him.

If Doucoure had not got a run of games which he almost didnt , then he could have dissapeared off the radar like Berghuis, without us realising he had the potential to become our most influential player, which I believe he is.

 

On the subject of Berghuis, he scored two decent goals this week which makes it 4 goals in 4!

I know he never really played for us but I actually quite like seeing players doing well after moving away from Watford. As long as it isn't at our own expense of course.

Well I don't know. I don't think he had the physical strength to play in the Prem

 

He certainly would have had to fight for a place in the team and he doesn't strike me as some who is willing to make that effort. A good player but I think he needs to be loved like he is now. Here he would most likely have been just a squad player, at least this year anyway, and that doesn't suit his personality.

Different players need different things. I reckon Boufal could still be an outstanding player in the right environment with the right coaching.

 

Does anyone know if we have a recall clause in his loan? If Carillo got injured, it might be something we need to consider.

 

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately the loan becomes permanent as soon as that joke stops being funny. So his contract with Feyanord has now been back dated to 2012.

 

I'm more worried Hogg will be recalled.

Watching Berghuis tear up Man C in the Champions League will give a good indication of the level of gnashing of teeth on here for letting him go before giving him a chance

 

He's their top scorer in their Mickey Mouse league so I'm surprised the gnashing hasn't already started TBH
