Been to Thailand a few times when it’s rained, normally an almighty storm that lasts about 10 minutes but then 20 minutes later you wouldn’t know it had happened. Definitely feels different to when it rains here.

Been in very heavy rain in Costa Rica/Africa a few times/Borneo and felt very similar last night. Lashed down where we live but an hour later was dry enough to sit on the patio and watch the foxes take the food left for them by torchlight. Very "unbritish" rain.

Ha ha, yes. We have social media for that now. Apols as the commentary is annoying.

I'm amazed there wasn't one of their daily trans-related articles about the devastating impact of the heat on the gender-fluid.

Hmmm what's the boiling point of gender fluid? I'm sure if we get anywhere need that the BBC will be all over it.

It’s madness, yesterday at 14.00 it was 36C in the shade according to our garden thermometer. Today it was 20C. This eve I half thought of grabbing a hoodie while sitting out in the garden before dusk.

It’s genuinely pretty rubbish. I’ve heard many people say that Houston is the worst place they’ve been for summer weather. Whatever the temperature, you can generally add another 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit simply because of the humidity. The weather is lovely from September through until May, and you’ll be comfortable in shorts and t-shirt for practically that entire window, beside the odd cold front that rolls through.

Come the summer months, it’s absolutely miserable. 30 seconds outside and you’ll be drenched in sweat. Hell, I took the kids to the community pool in our neighborhood, and I could feel myself sweating in the water. At about 3pm this afternoon, the “feels like” temperature was 47+. Doing anything outside beside swimming is basically horrendous June-August.

Yet, you can ride a couple hundred miles west to San Antonio, and the temperature will probably be hotter on paper, but walking around and being outside isn’t half as terrible.

Are these the things I watched at Primary School because, if they were, they were bloody traumatising and have stayed with me to this day. I was very young so may have some details wrong but seem to remember them being called Danger on the Farm/Railway, etc. There was a scene of children playing “chicken” on a railway line and another where a child fell off the back of a tractor? I don’t know if it was actually the case, but my memory has the children being killed or maimed one by one in a gory fashion.

I think the weather most of us now have (cloudy, humid, average temps of 22-23c) highlights the point I was trying to make back on Tuesday but which I expressed very badly (and have since apologised).

The heatwave was horrific. It was unbearable for many and caused death and destruction in the worst cases. Horrible.

However, fortunately it was very short-lasting. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t serious. It was. It highlights the worrying future we and our children face until more action is taken. We remain lucky in England that any extreme weather we get is usually just for a few days, be it heat, snow, rain etc. Things change here very quickly as our wind moves direction so often. The cooler temperatures will be welcomed by many but they come with cloud and not much sunshine. Nobody wants the 40c heat back but I wish we could have a happy medium whereby it’s sunny but bearable.

I’ve worked many summers in the Med and love the heat and sunshine (I get SAD quite badly too) but I made the mistake on Tuesday of assuming everybody else should love hot sunshine too.

I hope everybody is happy and healthy and finding the temperature more bearable.

Could be worse. This one is known, in the "the trade" (TV/animation historians/collectors), as the "Operation Yewtree Showreel":

You might not have seen the ads - as the CoI was a very professional organisation (lots of training/expertise in film/visual theory and psychology etc) so not only was it output it was supremely tailored for its audience but it used the regional nature of the UK's network TV (and cinema) to target geographical areas. You might not have grown-up in area that needed to get a PIF from Harris or Saville...

EDIT "Clunk, click..."? I don't really want those names appearing on my internet search history but a list here.

See how well-made and targetted they were - remember that old adage of "The best PR/advertising is when the audience don't realise it's PR/advertising..."

WillisWasTheWorst Its making less grammar mistake's thats important

Something I often bang on about (much to Mrs. Willis's boredom) is that in most countries you are likely to go to on holiday it is generally only cloudy when it's going to rain, then it clears up and is sunny again - often very quickly. Whereas in Britain the default state is cloudy, irrespective of the time of year or whether it's going to rain, so we're quite surprised and remark on it when we have a sunny day. I do appreciate we are lucky to have a moderate climate due to our geographic position, but I do regret that we don't see the sun more often and that's why I look forward to our holidays so much.

Okay just to go slightly off topic but on the subject of the old public health tv adverts..

Which band had a top 3 hit in the 1990s with a song based around a 1970s tv ad warning against speaking to strangers?

It was their first hit I believe.
