Its not so much a case of Mexico sending the US a bank transfer for the amount... he claims it will be paid for by levies and taxes on US/Mexican financial transactions, Trade tariffs and VISA fees

I'm not saying it will work (I don't think it will for the record, I think it is a rousing rallying point for his supporter base) but to claim Trump wants to spend billions of US dollars building a wall is incorrect. Rightly or wrongly he believes he can fund it with Mexican money

I've slowly come to respect the fact he just says what ever he feels, and goes with it. Most recent example suggesting we (the US) could solve our debt problem by either : Printing more money, or wait for the next collapse and only pay part of our bonds to outside debtors. (Inflation how does it work)

Ah, his thoroughly illegal solution to the problem, you mean?

The US President isn't a monarch. The office doesn't have the authority to do what he outlined.

It was an after-the-fact explanation for something he stupidly said off the cuff, much like most of his "policies".

My girlfriend's auntie is in the UK atm and she lives in Florida and has for 30 years now. She says that most people in America hate Obama, and she can't understand why people in England like him so much - is this true?

She also says there's as much hate for Hilary in the USA as there is for Trump. She can't stand Hilary. She seemed pretty right wing though.

Obama's approval ratings are pretty high for a sitting president at the end of his second term. Saying most people in the US hate him is complete rubbish. Most Republicans, sure...but they'd hate President Jesus if he was a Democrat, so that doesn't mean a lot. Sounds like your GF's aunt is either seeing what she expects to see or hangs around exclusively with Republicans.

She's right that Hillary is almost as widely disliked as Trump though. Sadly it looks like the two presidential nominees are going to be the two most widely disliked candidates in US political history. It's a real **** sandwich v giant douche decision.

It's also worth noting that the older generations in the US are way, way more right wing than the younger ones. They are usually generational divides, but the rise of the internet and exposure to the world outside of McCarthyism has done much sway the younger generations away from the extremely right wing ideas that have traditionally infused the US in years gone by. A candidate like Sanders would have been unthinkable 20 years ago; now he'd probably win if he got the Democratic nomination, based on current polls.

Yeah I had to bite my tongue a bit when having this conversation with her! I think half the reason that she doesn't like Obama is because her husband works in medical insurance and Obamacare hasn't been great for them, not sure though.

He was well liked, but people did not take him serious as a candidate, there was the whole tank photo shoot thing. and Reagan was still like god for many Americans all Bush had to do was say he was going to just be like Reagan.

Madness I know..but it's not too dissimilar to what has been going on in the Philippines since Marcos' demise and it has subsequently just been a breeding ground for corruption.

I'm sure if Trump gets in he will just be keeping the seat warm for Jeb Bush in any case. Tom Daschle, now he would have made a damn fine president.

I'm following it closely and only Hillary brings up his tax returns but it's a bit of a non-story because he hits back with releasing the transcripts of her Goldman Sachs speeches. The background behind it is Hillary maintains she's not bought by Wall Street, however evidence suggests she is as she earned $21m in speeches to Wall St banks - she charges on average $225,000 dollars for a 20 minute speech.

Everybody is pressuring her to release them and she won't so the general consensus is those speeches were damaging to her 'regulate Wall St' diatribe.

The biggest story at the moment is yesterday the Office of the Inspector General released it's findings on the use of her private email server in which it sharply criticised Hillary Clinton. Hillary has always maintained that her server was permitted and she was authorised to use it - she was lying.

However, the OIG report stated that had she sought permission for a private server it would have been denied....that's bad.

It appears only her select close aides knew all State Dept emails were being directed to her private server...in other words...all State top secret, secret and classified emails were stored away from 'secure' government servers and on her private server. Also, for the first 3 months of her tenure as Secretary of State, that same server was unsecure (i.e. no encryption). the guy who set up the server, Brian Pagliano pled the 5th when being questioned by Congress, so the FBI granted him immunity if he turned state's witness - which he accepted.

A Romanian hacker called Guccifer was extradited to the US on hacking charges and he claims to have hacked Clinton servers. I think he plead guilty yesterday and also claims he has 2gb of data from Hillary's server which he's keeping to try and cut a deal.

Following on from Guccifer, he tried to hack into RT Television (a Russian TV station) which Russian intelligence services traced back to Guccifer and they claim they have 20,000 emails hacked from Hillary's server.

Also, a conservative watchdog called Judicial Watch has been granted discovery under a Freedom of Information Act request and is deposing Hillary's aides under oath. One has already been deposed and apparently it's 'embarrasing to Hillary Clinton'. The rest are being deposed over the next month and a request to depose Hillary has already been submitted.

So the FBI are investigating Hillary for mishandling government secrets, they're also investigating the Clinton Foundation for corruption, Judicial Watch are deposing her aides, the OIG has slammed her for the private server, Bill Clinton's relationship to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Eppstein is blowing up (Bill travelled on the 'Lolita Express' to Eppstein's sex island 26 times - allegedly underage prostitutes) and Trump is now virtually level with her in the national polls...in some, he's beating her.

Honestly, if you watch the American version of House of Cards...Frank Underwood is a choirboy compared to the Hillary Clinton...so the tax returns are boring compared to the Clintons.

I had not even heard of it until now, and I don't see it reported on any major US news outlet. But even if it did I doubt it would hurt him.

Hillary Clinton will perpetuate war, wealth disparity, TTIP, arm sales and illegal Israeli settlements. She could potentially be the first female US President, but so what, nothing will change. As for Trump God knows?! ...either way the Americans yet again have a poor choice of presidential candidates.

Well she hasn't reached the number of pledged delegates needed for the nomination, so it will be a contested convention. The superdelegates are being incorrectedly included in her total yet they don't vote til the second ballot on July 25th.

However, there is a lawsuit being filed for election fraud in California, as the disparity between exit polls and the reported figures are massive. A video of the the group trustvote.org calculated based on pure exit polls that Bernie Sanders would be ahead in pledged delegates.

Plus there's also the FBI investigation in Hillary's email server, which barring intervention from Obama and The Department of Justice should result in an indictment and prosecution.

There's a long time between now and the convention and I sense there will be a massive breaking story between then.

  20. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Indeed, which is exactly why Bernie is going all the way to the convention.

I can't imagine anything would come of the email debacle as she's just as slippery as her husband was.

I just can't stand the woman. She can stand there and say 'any woman can dream of being president', whereas the truth is that any woman can dream. Dream of being married to a President that was involved in such a horrible scandal that it made her famous and she's not looked back since.

Trump may be as polarising as it gets, but at least he has an extremely passionate core support

Clinton is hated by almost everyone, the best she can hope for is a 'lesser of two evils' vote, which doesn't bode well for her campaign

I'd be interested to know what email Assange has access to.

Just as intriguing is Russia apparently are about to release the emails they hacked. Not sure how reliable a source it is.

If they do and it makes Clinton's candidacy impossible surely Sanders will step up to the plate?

  25. hornetgags

They'll try and screw Bernie over by running VP Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, which is why the lawsuit for election fraud is his best hope, however he'll probably get screwed over by the superdelegates.

The US being the 'beacon' for democracy is a fallacy and it can give any banana republic a run for its money in terms of corruption.

Most interesting story at the moment but not being covered at all by the mainstream media is the hacking of the DNC servers by Guccifer 2.0 where it shows the DNC had gone 'all in' on Hillary Clinton which backs up the bias against Bernie Sanders and also the list of donors and the amounts pledged.
