You see I disagree with this. If you have 3 open lanes and you know that a lane is closed 3 miles away, what is the point in merging and forming a single line of slow moving traffic miles away from the closure ? Traffic should act as normal until they approach the last few warning signs. I hate cars pushing in right at the last second but equally hate cars merging into one slow moving lane miles before they have to, it's ludicous !

 

I have to say I agree with this, but I didn’t want to be the first to suggest it! It’s obviously rude to push in at the last minute, but I don’t think merging in early helps the traffic flow at all. The southbound exit from the M1 on to the M25 is a case in point. There’s always a queue because the signage and road markings wrongly encourage drivers to get into the first lane early. But the exit road has two lanes which the traffic is therefore not evenly distributed into. People effectively queue in one lane when there is a second one almost empty.

 

Yes though I have to say I love this as encouraging everyone onto the inside lane makes it so much easier to exit legally without queuing

I love that junction. First timers happily excepted it's basically a stupidity test. Many, many people fail.

As an aside there was a large group of OAPs who made a point of going for a dip at high-tide (we can only crab when the tide's retreated a bit as we can't got safely to the pool) - I do hope that they're alright.

Also I get confused when "you killed it" means good but "you murdered it" means bad. So always remember to kill things rather than murdering them.
