Does anyone know whether they are going to return to 3pm kick-offs for next season?

I did wonder whether they would just stick with having each game played in its own time slot, even when fans are allowed back in. Simply because the broadcasters get to show each game = more £?. I much prefer all/most games at Saturday 3pm rather than spread over the day/weekend/week.

I reckon they will - not all the games are that attractive to a neutral TV audience.

It's not part of the broadcasting deal to have the games spread out like that - and the PL clubs are having to compensate the broadcasters for that arrangement - so I suspect the PL will want to revert back to normal as soon as they can.

The EFL has released a statement about the new PL deal which basically asks for more of the money and the abolition of parachute payments:

    https://www.efl.com/news/2021/may/efl-statement-premier-league-broadcast-extension/

Kieran Maguire, who wrote The Price of Football, has tweeted the EFL pointing out they themselves have parachute payments within their structure so clubs that go down from one league to the one below get an extra payout. And that clubs in the Championship get a far higher share of the TV revenue than League 2 clubs.

    AKA massive hypocrites.

Seems there have been a few decoys and dummies at OT before the game starts.

I'd say they must be favorites with 3 good games coming up and Leicester/Chelsea playing each other.

Man U defending like we did last season.

I thought both teams looked poor at times.

Next year is going to be "challenging" but no team is unbeatable. Despite being the "best league in the world" players and teams still make mistakes.

I'm quietly optimistic that we will do ok next season and will have at least 1 or 2 "big scalps" amongst our victories again.

I think t'Burnley (away) could yet scupper their chances. Fingers crossed.

Love it, ‘parachute payments provide a reward for relegation’ yeah of course they do, Premier League clubs are just queuing up to get relegated aren’t they.

Great second goal by Tourist or whatever he's called.

They only scored 3 because of a couple of penalties. The first one should not have been given. No one noticed and it was reviewed by VAR, but Joelinton placed his foot on Ake which made him tumble. Everyone said foul. Even the commentators agreed it was the right decision to give a penalty. Am I the only person to look at that as a foul on Ake, not the other way around?

Possibly. I just saw it for the first time just now and can’t see past a foul on Joelinton I’m afraid.

Fair point - 5live agreed with you.

    Very soft decision they said.

But not for the first time.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't Ake laying on the floor and Joelinton places his foot on Ake's ankle which is why he loses his footing? I don't see how that could be a foul. If a player treads on an opponent which causes him to fall over, surely that cannot be a foul to that player. For me, that's just a nuts conclusion. But I've not found anyone who thinks it wasn't a penalty. I just don't understand why people are thinking this. Maybe I'm just mad.

West Brom 2nd goal harshly ruled out there ?

Liverpool will probably score again now .

First Pool goal came from a free kick that should have been a drop ball.

With Burnley and Palace to come they will probably do it as Leicester play Chelsea and Spurs.

How on earth can they qualify for the CL after losing six home games in a row?

    Great header too .

Most outfield players would take that.

If you fancy a laugh...check out the Grand Old Team threads on Richarlison and Doucoure.

They're less than complimentary....one has termed the phrase 'Donkoure' - which made me laugh - and on the other asking if Barca were still offering £80m for Richarlison and if anyone offers over £30m to take it.

Time was up before that Liverpool corner was taken, so why was it allowed to be taken, because if time is up then time is up and the final whistle should have been blown.

This seems to happen quite a lot, if a team wins a corner or a free kick just prior to time being up many referees still allow the set pieces to be taken, but I don't see why they should, because even if the ball is in mid air and heading towards an open goal, but time is up the whistle should be blown, END OF!!!

Technically, four minutes added time declared means at least four minutes, but I don’t believe refs measure the time that accurately any more than you do.

Didn’t Clive Thomas do that once in the World Cup?

Yes, in the Clive Thomas Super Show.

Amongst other controversies, he also disallowed a perfectly good Everton goal vs Liverpool 1977 FA cup as he “assumed the ball was diverted by his hand”, when everyone at the ground and on TV saw it come off the player’s hip.
He loved himself, did Mr Thomas...

And that was the right thing to do, if time was up, then time was up, the ref had blown his whistle, just ask UEA he will back me up on that ;)

I think these days if the ref gives a corner then it’s a given that it will be allowed to be taken and the passage of play concluded. The ref is either going to blow up before it’s taken, or it’s going to be concluded, if its given and allowed to be taken the ref has clearly decided there is sufficient time left to take it, which could’ve occurred through stoppages/time wasting within the the allotted time. If there isn’t enough time they’d just blow up before.
