Well, he's very much got a British accent, and what looks like a Jamaican flag on his hat. He doesn't look of Somalian or east african decent - current hotbeds for Al-Qaeda backed islamic terrorism. So, a very good question...

ps, RIP to whoever was attacked - not yet confirmed as a soldier, normally a 24hr soak before MOD will confirm - but this may be waived given the circumstances once the families and NoK have been informed. And, good shooting from the WPC who, it would appear was charged at by the assailant with the machete.

It's a Stone Island logo on his hat. I would say he is of West African origin, perhaps Ghanaian, very obviously a Londoner though.

Horrific. Can't begin to imagine the utter distress of the victims family at both the murder and then the images they will see. So tragic and pointless.

Where exactly would you deport the British citizen who did this then?

Presumably the part where the perpetrator shouted political statements and called for the people of the UK to take down their governemnt?

Why did people hang around and film it all and talk to him on camera?

If I saw a machete wielding murderer who just hacked off a mans head the last thing i'd think to do is pull out my phone and film it all.

Did they know him and maybe that's why they didn't run away?

A strange business this. Odd to see people in the video just standing about too. It'll be interesting to see what transpires and where the attackers are from.

Forza - the idiocy and opportunism of certain racists on twitter etc is almost as sickening as the attack. What a thing when you have to point out that not all Muslims are terrorists! It reminds me of having to resort to saying not all Irish people bomb pubs a few years back. You'd think people would have the sense to realise. As for the condemnation of "asian's" (!), I bet the Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese etc would not agree! I wonder how those twitteracists would feel if all "Europeans" were all condemned because of what the Serbs did during the break up of Yugoslavia.

Finally, with regards to the video, that little chopper thing is most definitely not a machete!

People on twitter tarnishing all with the same brush is no way near as 'sickening' as the attack, it's just ignorance. An innocent person had their head hacked off in London today, you can't compare that with stupid comments on twitter.

I have to say that we don't know who the guy was who was murdered. Some say that he was wearing a 'help for heroes' t-shirt, but that doesn't mean he was a soldier. We also don't know that he was beheaded.

They're now saying one of the attackers is of a Nigerian background - so a long way from Asia.

There are one or two interesting updates in this Telegraph article:-

2 of my facebook friends have liked the EDL. Has anyone seen their twitter? Unbeleivable.

CAlling for feet on the ground - for what? Who are they protecting? Who are they standing up to? The perputraters are detained. All they are likely to do is try and provoke others.

No one is saying it's equal. All I was saying is it's not an excuse to be racist. It was a horrible horrible thing, and the guys who did it are scum.

With respect UEA, if 2 white guys had murdered a black man in cold blood I expect half of London, Birmingham and Manchester would be burning right now. 40 racists are manageable and nobody will lose their homes.

Muslims Condemn Attack on Soldier in Woolwich

    No cause justifies this murder
A barbaric act that has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly
Vast majority of British Muslims acknowledge armed forces for the work they do
Calls for calm and unity in all communities

The Muslim Council of Britain this evening spoke out, in the strongest possible terms, the news of a horrific murder that has taken place in Woolwich, London. Eye-witnesses suggest that the murderers made Islamic slogans during their heinous action and were thus motivated by their Islamic faith.

This is a truly barbaric act that has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family. We understand the victim is a serving member of the Armed Forces. Muslims have long served in this country’s Armed Forces, proudly and with honour. This attack on a member of the Armed Forces is dishonourable, and no cause justifies this murder.

This action will no doubt heighten tensions on the streets of the United Kingdom. We call on all our communities, Muslim and non-Muslim, to come together in solidarity to ensure the forces of hatred do not prevail. It is important we allow our police authorities to do their job without speculation. We also urge the utmost vigilance and ask the police authorities to calm tensions.

You have to grin at the EDL. Their site includes thoughtful and logical comments such as "Hitler was right".

You can see where they're coming from.

Because the Nazis would never, ever have considered killing a British soldier.

The same well thought out politics which allow them to give Nazi salutes, whilst supporting Israeli action against the Muslim world

Do you mean through their taking 20 mins to arrive on site?

    It does seem remarkably slow.

I wonder why the military police didn't show up either, with the barracks right there. You'd have thought they'd have been right on it.

  31. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

It seems that one of the attackers had time to do the deed, wander off down the road, converse with someone that was videoing, walk off back, speak to a lady who got off a bus about dropping his weapons, ask members of the public to take photos and shout 'Allahu Akbar' several times before the police arrived.

    Something isn't right somewhere.

  32. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Apparently local unarmed police arrived relatively quickly but had to wait for the ones with the guns before they could challenge the two men. Think about it though. London has more armed police than anywhere and that's taken a 20 minute response time. Imagine if that happened in somewhere like Northwood.

Media are to blame for a lot of general opinions. All you hear is "Muslims hate Britain" or "Muslims attack white guy" or "Muslims rape this" etc. You never hear "Muslim man saves a pensioners kitten from tree". You only hear the bad points.

Though if I ever heard a Muslim preacher saying how much he hates the country and that we should adopt to Muslim law etc, I would go ape **** at him.

My politically incorrect thoughts on this are that these tw*ts deserve to die, and yes the Police should be fully investigated for not finishing the job.

Truly sickening, watching that video is shocking seeing as it's London in broad daylight. I feel for that guys family, what a barbaric thing to happen.

EDL are a bunch of ****s though, how does it help going to the scene hours later when the two scumbags who did it have been apprehended? Why does no one call them out for shamefully trying to cash in on the death of that man?

The problem with our hypocrite leaders is they will never go to the root of this evil, Saudi Arabia, because of the oil and the long standing and deep rooted links with the royal family there.

They'll skirt around then issue, be PC, dilly dally and arrest some wannabe jihadis but until they grow a pair and target Saudi for fomenting this hideous extremism it won't stop.

Social media has been a sad sad place tonight.

People justifying racist comments because of the events. Truly tragic scenes for that poor innocent guy.

But I will choose my words carefully here.

Firstly, what is the mass media playing at? ITV broadcasting that video at around 6pm today, just a few hours after the events. A sensitive time, and they basically do exactly what the attackers would have wanted. Publicise themselves and the attack.

It is still, no matter what, completely unacceptable to tarnish the whole of Islam with this same ideology, that they are all extremist, that they have no purpose in our society, as I have seen so many people suggesting.

The EDL jumped on this event, a quick "This is terrible news" before the "right, lets protest. Get these ***** out of our country etc". They've turned a tragic event into propaganda, a chance to do something. Take some sort of action. Disgraceful.

A few tweets i've seen. One being "Why should they get the free healthcare? let them rot." Well, is that really sensible??? Should they have done that in Boston. Screw the answers and explanations, let the b@st@rd die? Or do we keep them alive, prosecute and find out who they are and why they did it?

My last point, and it is a controversial one. When will people realise that what the attacker said is right. Partially. This government, and governments before it are killing innocent civilians in Baghdad and other areas of conflict. As a nation, we turn a blind eye, because they mean nothing to us. I'm not trying to justify this attack, it is horrendous, and the aftermath has been distressing. I'm merely trying to offer a sense of perspective.
