    Glynis!

What a character she is. I played a couple of county cups with her at Eastbourne, when I was just starting and she was ending.

So solid. One of our team asked her who was the best player she'd beaten.

Without looking up from her crossword she said " Navratilova. Here. The year she first won Wimbledon".

    That shut Caroline up!

Dart and Boulter having a bit of a fight on the fair lawns of Nottingham.

    Head pointing and the like.

Boulter v Burrage in the final.

All British contest - must be sometime since that last happened !

Yes JB did well to hang on as Ice Cream came back to 5 all.

Good question. Of course very few top overseas ladies are playing in Nottingham, Sakkari did but the top 50 or so are only just practicing I expect or elsewhere.

Watching an all GB doubles too. Dart/Watson v Barnett/Nicholls.

As we played Nicholls last year when she played for Roehampton in the NPL I keep an eye on her if it fits.

I'd been to the Roehampton club more often than she! I had to show her the changing rooms!

And they say football is franchised!

    Raducanu admits to being naive.

Well she's allowed and she'll always be a US Open winner.

Hopefully she has learned HER lessons!

WillisWasTheWorst Its making less grammar mistake's thats important

I found that story a little sad that she has got to the stage of almost regretting winning the US Open.

She might have been better being a plucky loser in the semi finals or something

Less pressure , demand or expectations.

    Very sad.
Coupled with the jealousy and envy that is now circulating amongst other players it's all very unpleasant.

2 wins from 2 for the Brits at Queens so far.

    Good win by Ryan Peniston.

Dan Evans one set down though.

Saw the end of the Peniston Humbert match.

Classic example of a player ( Humbert) doing the bare minimum because the grass court/green hard court season is so miniscule. Probably had an appearance fee to ease his pain.

Brits always win at such events.

How many other matches has Peniston won so far this year?

Been this way for forty years and more.

    Fair point !

And they probably get a cheap wildcard into Wimbledon as well .

To be clear, I'm not decrying their efforts merely pointing out the strength in depth in tennis.

Some will, not sure Peniston has done enough to earn one. Edmund will receive one and they did bring in a play off competition,or rather David Felgate did. Good idea. Not sure if it is still in place.

    Mr Boulter beats Murray 3&1.

George Loffhagen who did well the other week at Nottingham trains at Hazelwood.

    I met him today,seems lovely.

He's hoping for a wild card for Wimbledon but plays qualies on Monday.

Can you see any of the young guns being a threat to Djokovic at Wimbledon?

Maybe if he has a bad day/injury.

    In a word no!

If it stays dry possibly Medivet but he's 27 and stands too deep.

    Alcatraz isn't fully fit.

Boy Band too inexperienced on grass/green hard court.

    Dinner seems injured.

Tsitsi has his family in his ear far too much, needs to ditch them but his dad saved his life so tricky!

Zverev will have to serve our of a tree.

    Musetti has too little experience.

Ruble too formulaic. Ruud to far back in the court and very limited at the net.

    ND very strong favourite.

Murray probably about third or fourth favourite but could get ND in round 1!

Yes- as we have seen in the last 3 weeks .

Murray could have a little run or go out early as you say with a bad draw.

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

He could,if the draw is kind, win.
So very few players can or bother to adapt to grass.

It is an interlude on the main tour and its relevance diminishes year on year.

Only the tradition and importance and majesty of the All England Club keep it alive.

Only clubs with a good groundsman or wealth can afford to keep courts that are used mid / late May - early September at best.

    Alcatraz looking impressive.

106 mph forehands can be tracked down on clay.

    Tricky on grass.

Nice little film on $ky Sports News on the ball girls and boys at Wobbledon.

Some chap called Roger, looked like he'd played a bit and a lady named Kate from Kensington Palace.

    Cleaner I'd say.

At the start of the year I thought his best chance of a grand slam win in 2023 was Wimbledon so probably not. Of course a serious enough injury will stop anyone.

The other way he would risk losing is if he spends time on court due to rain delays and has to fit matches into a tighter schedule, has a long exhausting match along the way, and then has nothing left for the business end like a final against a fresher opponent. That's happened before in his career. Hopefully that won't happen here and he can get to 24 and equal Margaret Court.

  22. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

He's already ahead of Mad Margaret really.
Court won numerous Aussie Opens when it was hardly a major event.
Dreadful courts at Kooyong, air travel not as it is today .
Even into the mid '80s it was a poor relation.
Pastor MC doesn't really deserve that accolade, especially for her repugnant views.

Been looking at the long range weather forecast when Wimbledon is on and it doesn’t look great but hopefully they are wrong about the rain as usual !!

They can complete a tournament on two courts.
Doubles, mixed and junior events may need to be shortened and legends etc given the heave ho but can be done.
They predicted six weeks of unseasonably hot weather so...?

St Albans chap Charlie Broom wins first round of qualies.

Hannah Klugman ( 14) and Isabel Lacy ( daughter of another Hertfordshire player, Caroline Lacy, formerly Herbert) play tomorrow.

    All wild cards into qualies.

    Kokkinassis loses first round.

    Roehampton is unrecognizable these days.
If there weren't grass courts I'd believe it was somewhere I'd never played.

    Impressive.

    Yes.

    Ideal draw for Murray.

He'll beat RP and then whoever wins from Tsitsipas or Thiem.
