    He isn’t there .

    It’s Duxbury , Manga , Ismael and Bachmann I think ?

Giaretta will be far too busy to attend. He paractically runs the club, top to bottom. Rushed off his feet no doubt.

    Good enough.

“For a mid level championship club with tiny transfer budget how appropriate do you think it is to have a CEO on 900k per annum. It could be argued that such a high quality individual is now out of our reach given our financial level.”

Is Ismael the right fit, and if so, for how long?

If we're debt free by the end of the year, should we not be a bit more ambitious in our spending than £50,000 for Tom Ince?

    Are you asset stripping?

Trouble is Pozzo is the main man so he has last say probably.

No matter what anyone else thinks.

Is he going to give VI time?

Someone on Twitter went, here are their thoughts:

First things first, I actually left tonight’s Q and A in a fairly positive mood. Yes I know that these events tend to be a PR/positive spin exercise but I genuinely believe the changes we have made are for the better. Here are some key takeaways from it.

    1) Scott Duxbury confirmed that, despite transfer speculation, Yaser Asprilla is not leaving
    2) Duxbury is also of the opinion that this is the best squad assembled in his time at Watford. Not in terms of quality but in terms of character and players wanting to play for us
    3) The pre-season schedule of only one game open to the public was so that we did not give our opposition any sighters of what we were doing/how we were playing.
    4) The club are in discussions with a ‘Number 9’ and there will be further incomings in the next few weeks
    5) Valerien Ismael confirmed that he has the final say on any players coming in. We could find him a £10 million pound player but if he doesn’t fit in to his style, he can veto the deal
    6) The clearout/reset was mainly so the mentality of the squad would change for the better
    7) Daniel Bachmann addressed the criticism of him on social media. He has no problem with people calling him ‘****’ but it crossed the line when it becomes personal about him and his family
    8) Patience is key this season. If we lose a few games, then so be it. This is a process
    9) Maduka Okoye will probably leave Watford on loan. The club still see him as a future number 1 but the competition from Dan Bachmann and an injury he has picked up has halted his progress. No regrets about the fee paid for him either
    10) Giaretta is keen to use the loan market but aware you can only have 5 players in the match day squad. He only mentioned the need to become sustainable and acknowledge the fact we are a Championship club with limited funds available hence why loans/frees are our preference
    11) The main point that was emphasised that the main thing this season is to enjoy it. Duxbury refuted a claim that staying down was a good thing as it has lead to a reset; the goal was to be promoted and we failed. Admitted the last 2 seasons have been forgettable and poor

    8. Does that include the one man who makes all the decisions?

Great if Ismael is being backed, was involved in player signings and the players are happy but a few dodgy results and will it be back to reality ?

    Roughly translated.

    1) We’ll sell if we get a bid over £10m
    2) The squad is ****
    3) We hid all the games so whipping boys QPR couldn’t know what we’d do.
    4) We couldn’t get anyone, but we did talk to them.
    5) Find him a £10m player, then he has no choice but to say no because we have no money
    6) Clear out was needed to cut costs
    8) Patience is needed because we’re going to lose loads
    9) Okoye is sh1t, and I can’t believe we actually spent money on him
    10) We’ve got no money because of all my past f&ck ups
    11) Learn to enjoy failure

A couple more points to add to this:

    12) Tonight was solely about football issues. A supporter was shut down by Richard Walker for asking about the match day experience with regards to the banning of flasks etc and was asked to talk to him afterwards.
    13) Ben Manga was in attendance but due to his poor English, he only answered one question. He did say though that he is working daily on transfer targets and he is in constant communication with Ismael regarding this

    1. Will believe it come the 2nd of September!
    2. Perhaps, although in the early Pozzo years we didn't exactly have a huge problem with players not giving a ****
    3. Maybe, but then what was the point in making that available for the public to watch?
    4. Expected, let's see how that transpires
    5. Could actually believe that, most of the incomings are quite positive, and the one which is the least exciting is a player who has worked with Ismael in the past
    6. Fair, let's see how long this cultural shift lasts
    7. Fair, can't say I saw any personal abuse, but I'm definitely not saying it didn't happen
    8. Heard that one before!
    9. Basically another Bachmann, probably a good shot-stopper, but unless he improves elsewhere, I doubt he has a future in England
    10. We're only on 2 at the moment!
    11. I'm going into this season looking to enjoy it, expectations are on the floor!

I went. It was a good event, the 'At Your Place' events always have been pretty good and informal in fairness so it is positive to see them back on the agenda. No big news to come out of it but all 5 of the panel took questions, and all of them aside from Bachmann hung around for a good while afterwards talking to people individually.

Interesting to see a couple of people recognisable for being particularly vocal and angry in the world of Twitter in attendance, but subsequently when their opportunity arrived to ask a question they were timid and ended up asking pretty bland questions.

Slightly obscure/frustrating that the start was delayed by 2 or 3 minutes as there were still 25 people who had been given a place in the ballot but hadn't yet turned up, resulting in a number of empty seats. There are enough people who are moaning about the club for just about anything they do at the moment so for people to take the time to enter a ballot, get a place and then not turn up is odd.

Did anyone ask him why he gets defenders to take his goal kicks? ;)

Looks like the event went well. Whether or not what we heard is hot air is again down to pure speculation. I do hope the news about the Asprilla rumours are true mind, be a shame to lose him so early into the season. Last event (the big one in July) they said they would be more open to questions and improve comms. This is another step in the right direction. Thank you to all who went and provided feedback.

Thanks for sharing Tom. Gives me a bit of optimism reading this. Mainly because it does seem like the club has finally realised that our squad had a terrible mentality and they were literally a bunch of losers who would only turn up occasionally.
