If anybody saw the UKIP conference on sky news today, does the aggressive nature of his speech, his animated persona with hand movements, the rapturous applause and yelling of the audience remind anybody of a certain moustached Austrian?

I have never disagreed more with anything somebody says.

    OK. I'll bite.

What makes him a brilliant politician?

    Being a ranting, arm-waving populist?
Appealing to some people's most basic xenophobic instincts?
Being publicy rude and offensive to senior politicians from friendly countries?

    Farange is BNP Lite.

Low level populist nationalism for the "I'm not a racist but...." crowd.

I think the best thing about UKIP is that he makes the mainstream parties look at what people really want.

People are not happy with so many Europeans flooding into the country. Am I a racist? No, I'm sure it's a cliche but a lot of my friends are "minorities" and immigrants.

The people isn't about who so much as how many. Whilst you're in the EU you can't stop an endless amount coming in and putting more strain on us. The housing market, overcrowding (the UK is one of the most crowded places in the world...) benefits, crime.... I have no problem with a general European but ultimately there's a lot of negatives.

I'm not fully for leaving the EU, there's lots of positives... and UKIP is not exactly a party that shows knowledge or any plan or 90% of politics.... but it serves a purpose.

Oh, and I'm up for anything that is not Labour again. Messed it all up and I have no confidence in them at all.

I don't mind white, European immigrants so much. It's the African, Asian and South Americans we need to stop. With their spicy foods, their strange customs and their exotic sexual preferences, they are taking us to hell in a handcart. It's madness! You can't say you're "British" any more without being called a racist. St George's day should be mandatory. Get Matron back on the wards. Bring back national service. Bring back the Gold Standard. All this environmentalism is a load of politically correct rubbish.

Got to agree with Lux here. Have never paid much attention to UKIP, but the bits I've seen/heard haven't been racist, perhaps not seen enough? They will never be a leading party and I imagine if we came out of the EU they would cease to exist. I think that the time has come for a serious debate on our role in Europe. My heart says out but my head says I don't really know enough. As a third generation immigrant to this country, which I love with a passion, I think I'm fairly aware of even covert racism. BNP and that other English party mob are vile and racist,in my opinion UKIP aren't.

I do like the idea of bringing matron back :)

They literally said "We're not being racist but we don't want 20 million Romanians and Turks moving here" during the conference.

Anything which needs to have a disclaimer before it's said can probably be questioned.

Now this was a real sticking point for me, UKIP in the snap byelection in (cant remember where, help me! Lib dems retained it) put on their leaflets that there could be 20million immigrants. Which is a down right lie and scare mongering. Usually people who don't want more immigrants need to look closer to home. It's all well and good having front page headlines about asylum seekers from a war torn country being given a million pound house for them and their 10 children, but that's a minority. I mean a really REALLY small minority. Most immigrants can speak better english than those here and have more qualification than small towns put together. Usually university degrees from their native countries.

I dread to think that UKIP will win some seats in the next election. Hoping Labour get back in myself. Cocked up public finances, but on banking the problems go back WAAAY before Labour and we were coming out of recession, seeing unemployment fall and achieving growth in 2010.

Also he's way overdone the nips. Nobody would believe they were real.

Well, I'm sure it won't be anything like 20 million.... but there will be a massive influx. Whether they do in fact get a job, create cultural splits, commit crime, claim lots of benefits or not..... it's more people. That in itself without even considering the other points is enough to not want it. There is nearing 1 million poles in the UK now. Did anyone expect that before it happened? I'm not totally against that..... but it's beyond a point now. There's too many people.... it doesn't matter what race, minority, religion etc.

Ultimately for now, I wouldn't want to stop qualified people coming in. People who can get a job and contribute. It would be good if we had more power to choose who we let in so that it can be to our benefit... similar to Australia.

The only reason people feel forced to say "we're not racist" is because of how often people label anyone who dares to say anything short of outright devotion and stuff along the lines of "let's do everything and anything we can" for minorities and immigrants... who cares about anyone else.

It's quite sad really that it's come to that... but it's a truth. People cry racist like the boy cried wolf.

I'm also aware that we have lots of our own people who are not exactly pulling their own weight, criminals, etc....... but that is our problem. We can't escape that and we need to try and prevent that. It's not a reason to say "well they're here let's let others in even if they're only equally as bad because that is more important than running the country into ruin."

There are 1 million brits in Spain, many past retirement age but it seems totally ok for Brits to look for a new life abroad (as demonstrated by those awful TV shows that used to be on)

With regards to the discussion in general UKIP are just picking and choosing facts. Our economy is broke, our weather is crap. Our rents are high compared to what we get paid. I really doubt that a population more than the size of London will relocate to the UK

Thing is he will destroy what he loves, there is no way in the world his party will ever get elected so he just reduces the conservative vote, meaning foreigner loving lefties will probably get in at the next election.

The best he can hope for is a coalition with the conservatives, but by standing and forcing the conservatives to become more right wing the tories lose central votes, so again a conservative government is less likely, and so therefore is UKIP sharing power.

Personally I think the next general election will be a straight forward labour win by default as the recession is the Tory's fault in most people's eyes purely by virtue of them being in power currently. And they are alienating everyone by just looking after the top 2% of the population and the city.

The problem with UKIP discussion in the main is that EU law is often complex, and even the simpler laws people are unaware of.

It's a complicated thing, and it's not black or white. The EU is not something we should turn our back on in my opinion, but that does not by any means mean I think it is without its flaws. Again, though, I'm not an expert, but I do work with and EU legislation every day so I feel I'm learning bits and pieces at least.

'I don't know much about UKIP but they seem alright to me.' That kind of sentiment shouldn't turn into a vote but that's the way it is.

Also Farage himself seems a pretty unpleasant man. Part of the formation of that opinion about him obviously has to do with mine and his opposing political views, but he's hardly the most considered and reasonable debater when given a platform on television.

Personally I find it depressing that Farage is one of our country's voices in Brussels. It's embarrassing.

Sorry I'm going to have to pick you up on this one. Farage's wife is German. You can't equate his anti federal Europe stance with the purely anti foreign BNP.

UKIP and Farage stand for a co-operative union with Europe where there is open trading, essentially what Europe was set up for and what this country voted for when last given the chance.

That's for Spain to decide not me. Like I said, I'm not going to base my opinions on avoiding hypocrisy.

I'm sure UKIP are picking and choosing facts, they're doing that to get votes, the people they attract want a view they share on immigration rather than taxes, health etc.

I doubt that either. But it doesn't have to be 10 million. It no doubt will be a lot, it's obvious because Romanians and Turks would love to be here (that's not an assumption). I don't see how allowing more people into the UK is going to help with rent prices. The more people there are, the higher the demand is. Less housing, higher prices.... and that can be applied to a lot of other things in the economy. That's one of my main concerns. It's not about whether you're Turkish, Romanian, French or British. There's too many people. We can't stop British people being here even if they're criminals or scrounging so we have to do what we can. That's not racism that's just common sense.

"The weather is crap".... lol, cmon. I'm ok with solving a few problems at a time. If we can only stop over-population when the weather becomes nicer then we're ****ed.

Does anybody genuinely believe that it is possible we can play with different rules from Europe but want the same trading agreements? It's like getting married with the demands of sex without living in the same house.

I think we also have to be careful regarding 'The Turkish all want to come here', considering it wasn't too long ago hedge funds were selling it as 'Europes strongest emerging market' (with Poland, ironically).
