If you don’t get it done in pre-season you don’t get it done at all; anyone who’s played at any level knows that. But carry on calling any view that marginally disagrees with yours ‘nonsense’.

But it’s not even an opinion, it’s just untrue, the club monitor the players fitness levels remotely for both clubs, if they weren't fit enough then the club would have made that clear as one of the reasons he was fired.

It’s just a complete fallacy that flies in the face of all logic reason and evidence.

Incapable of making up for his **** squad in 10 games? Listen to yourself. What what was he supposed to do? Anyone given faulty tools and a false promise would fail to thrive in 10 games. Our fans are so conditioned by the Pozzos that they expect coaches to somehow turn 22 hopeless nobodies into a workable team immediately.

    Disgraceful performance.

When the Pozzo’s took over in 2011, we were 11th and Luton were non league. Eleven years later we are 11th but Luton are 4th and are looking at a potential promotion. What a shambles

Or the four weeks in winter when the World Cup was on, meanwhile the ultra fit Luton players Nathan Joned drilled into shape can presumably eat macdonalds every day and not bother with the multiple training sessions players have in the week, because they got themselves fit in the summer.

Though some here are claiming Edwards has extraordinarily managed to improve Luton in 22 games or fewer, without a pre-season.

While it's probably true, it's also completely obvious and expected that the manager will throw the players under the bus to try and save his own skin and reputation - especially if they're unlikely to be in the role for much longer and need to claim that their being sacked last time out wasn't their fault. It happens time and again at different clubs.

  16. wfcmoog

Yeah but it's all about pre season. That's why some teams start the season well and fade whilst others start slowly and end up top.

    Pre season is all

Also, deep cross to the back post and headed back = goal against Watford. Every single time.

Please tell me there's some stats to back it up @reids ? Even if we don't concede, we let a ball be live in our box following a cross more than any Watford team in recent memory, it stays there for ages.

No suprise the result. No suprise the performance. No suprise Luton were up for it. No suprise we were not. Not the first time we've had just a couple of shots in an entire game.

No real suprise Wilders comments. It's been obvious for months the players don't really care. They'd have been happy if it all our ducks landed in a row and we were in Burnley's position, but there's at least 6, probably a dozen of them that have been going through the motions until they leave in the summer, whether getting a transfer, or coming to a retirement age or whatever.

Davis is god awful, Choudhury is destined for breaking yellow card records in league 1. Maybe with us. Bayo wanted to score goals but was ****. We've spent millions assembling a bunch of misfits, chancers, cowards and crocks. Bayet, Duxbury and Pozzo to blame for this.

Catharism for Edwards whose underwhelming time here is looking more like our abysmal transfer policy and players attitude was more the blame than his managerial ability, and a microcosm showcase of our manager policy being ludicrous. It worked once or twice but isn't any way to run a credible football club. They're too stubborn and dumb to do anything different.... And more than likely were commited to dodgy deals with dodgy Belgium agents they couldn't walk away from.

I didn't think it would get worse (relegation) but after yet another performance like that? Who knows.

    Sorry, Since63 is spot on.

The “evidence” has been there in front of my eyes, home and away, all season.
We started slowly, underestimating the opposition and failing to cope with pressing sides , not learning from how to deal with them..

I heard again today and have from a couple of sources how RE trusted the players to get to fitness goals themselves while working on shape and tactics.

. But many of these players (and the Pozzo scientists) are /were completely ignorant of the pace, physicality and intensity and lack of rest between matches in the Championship.

The time it took players like Gaspar to get up to speed and the roll call of injuries like strains and hamstrings also evidence of poor conditioning.

Davis still can’t last 90 minutes.

RE tacit in that woeful preparation.

Pozzo ethos is to always disguise player fitness, injury and attitude issues as it will negatively affect their value. It’s why the estimates of when a player will be fit again can never be trusted.

Fourth or fifth season on the bounce our pre season conditioning has been woeful and we get outrun by opponents.

I’ll add the wonder signings Ferreira , Kone and Martins, while talents, were all never at the conditioning level needed for Championship football when they first signed, World Cup experience or not. Hence Ferreira’s 60th minute hamstring tear away at Boro, when he tried a fast sprint when he was shattered.

I’m saying no-one will deliver under the current structure.
I’m also saying that the idea Edwards was the answer is unconvincing.
Sticking with Gracia; not p1551ng all the money away on Sarr; addressing the return from Covid adequately; not appointing Ranieri and Hodgson. All disastrous decisions, non of which persuades me Edwards, from what we saw, was a good appointment.
The current campaign to claim he was is bizarre; the associated ‘hell and high water’ sound bites are obviously indicative of the problems running right through the club.

Maybe your curry wasn’t up to scratch?

Its been a problem all season and today was no different. Luton arnt a great side, they won t be getting promoted ahead of Sheffield or Boro, but they deserved to win today because they looked like a team with cohesion where the players knew their jobs.

In fairness, its little wonder that we dont look like a team. We hired a manager at the start of the season who had a very specific way of wanting the team to play, we then back that manager by signing players the owner wants rather than the type of player the manager wants. His replacementss in Bilic and Wilder both had differing systems again. Then theres the sheer number of injuries we seem to get every season. We've had the last 3 seasons to build a team and its been wasted on a succession of player signings and managerial appointments that didnt look beyond whatever the immediate objective or quick fix required. Most of these players were gone when the season ended. Murray, Rose, Manaj, Sissoko, Zinkernagel amongst many other quick fix signings over the past 3 seasons that have alot of money tied up in them that could have been spent so much better on actually building a team. Not that any of this isnt well known already, but wanted it off my chest anyway.

Sorry Edwards, you didnt end our season. In truth that boat sailed several games ago.

Davies - just terminate his loan now and start focusing on next season. He doesnt seem to have built up any sort of chemistry with the other attacking players in the squad, he needs to do more than sulk and quite frankly thats now 13 games out of 39 in the league in which we have failed to score. Time to try something else. Hell, we failed to score against a QPR side that conceded 14 in the 5 games either side of our match with them.

Speaking of loans - Araujo, whats the point? Is he injured? If not then whys he still here?

Kone - showed his inexperience today I thought, looked like a rabbit caught in headlights that first half. Having said that he kept trying and was atleast in the game unlike Louza.
Hamza - someone needs to tell him that he isnt a 4th central defender and needs to be further forward.

Hoedt - doesnt look at all comfortable on the left of a back 3

Pedro - trying to do too much all the time and in so doing isnt achieving an awful lot.

Porteous - our best player today. Thought Sema was also one of our better players.

Wilder - this 3 at the back system isnt working, I hope its something we dont persevere with for the rest of the season.

Britt - bringing him on is akin to waving a white flag. Offers less than Bayo which is some achievement.

Asprilla - looked lively when he came on.

Gino - the mess of our first relegation and the 3 seasons since is all your fault. Let the head coach do their job and actually support them instead of making decisions on their behalf.

No, I can't say that I remember, or can find at a very quick waving of my wand fingers, any comments anywhere near as direct or unvarnished as that from Bilic, to be honest - this is about the best I can do in the time prepared to commit:

I'm sorry but if that's true then I put that down as poor, naive management. The players attend training for fitness and coaching, granted they have a responsibility to look after themselves in the meantime but to tell players to get fit themselves is never going to work. If you ask any group of humans to do something there will always be a percentage that don't comply, it's basic psychology.

I would genuinely keep Wilder on for next season based on this statement alone and actually give him some control over recruitment.

Which was a large part of the reason that Edwards was hired - to change the culture in and around the first team and having a greater focus on younger players. Tbf the players did seem to buy into him for the most part, certainly far more then they did with Bilic or Wilder anyway. If a criticism could be made of Edwards then it was perhaps him trying to implement the system he had used at Forrest Green when we didnt have the squad or the signings for it rather than being more flexible in his set up which was maybe a sign of his relative inexperience. Then again we all knew it might not be the best of starts to the season given how tough the initial fixtures where and the expectation from the hierarchy that injured players like TDB and Ngakia would play important parts in the first team this season and Sarr who missed alot of preseason as we tried to flog him had to be suddenly re-implemented into the team. A rocky start and some naivety was tolerable surely given that this was supposed to be a long term appointment?
